  • LOL @dward59! Isn't it awesome to have such great surgeons out there who we can put our complete trust in???? Congrats to you and to everyone on their decision to change their lives for the better!
  • Of course, I am active on here and have been active on MFP for 650 days straight. I had my RNY on 9/27/12 and achieved my "normal" weight w/in 8 months. I am currently hoping to still drop another 10, but hit my goal a few weeks ago of 135. I am 5'5" tall. Prior to my surgery I had to do 6 months of appointments requiring…
  • Sorry, but I think if you are having a party it your job to accommodate ALL of your guests. As a type I diabetic I always hated going to a party (before my surgery) where they only had regular sodas and no diet. I think it is good to put out a bit, but not too much. Just give them choices. Don't overdo it so there won't be…
  • 15 months out (rny) and I can eat anything. Nothing comes up. Never vomited EVER and I think the only thing that I ever had an issue with was the time I cheated and tried a sip of soda with a meal. That didn't work well and I realized why they say no soft drinks. But all in all, I can eat anything. Had a little rapid heart…
  • Originally from Beloit--parents moved to SE Texas (near the Gulf) in 1979 when I was 10 years old--after the blizzard of 79 that shut down O Hare for 4 days. I have moved back to Beloit 4 times in my adult life. Love it there. I like snowy winters a lot better than the rainy, muddy ones!
  • I had the bypass, though I was leaning toward the sleeve more. My surgeon and I chose the bypass for me because of my health issues--type I diabetes on a pump, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea, hypothyroidism w/nodules, etc. I was 5'5" at 246 and was in the early stages of kidney failure. The…
  • I am originally from Beloit, Wisconsin, but have been in Orange, Texas since I was ten years old. I am hearing impaired, a type I diabetic, and currently still on disability--with hopes of getting new hearing aids soon so I can return to school/work or both soon. I was a nutrition major years ago. I have been married…
  • Current weight 135.6 Goal weight 130 Planning on stepping up the strength training and cardio. Not sure if I will see more weight loss, as I am comfortable in a size 6. I do want to be more fit.
  • Well, I indulged a bit in some holiday goodies and my weight is up a tad--could be from the higher insulin doses, though, because I never went over my calories once. At any rate, my weight yesterday was 136.6 and my goal was 135. I had reached my goal a few weeks ago, so I figure once I get the insulin usage back down the…
  • Odd because several of my surgeon's RNY patients have gone to Galveston's burn unit and donated their loose skin. This is what I was told to do and have an appointment in March with them. Not sure if I am doing it because I am kind of fond of my skin, and I've noticed it tightening up a good bit on its own.
  • Yep. The stalls are frequent and you wonder what you're doing wrong. I had so many I lost count. The most annoying one was at about 6 months post op and it lasted for almost 3 months--during that time my weight just didn't move. The hard part was that I was 2 pounds away from "normal" BMI and it took those 3 months to get…
  • Glad you are home and recovering!! Hope everything goes well for you!
  • An apple sliced with a bit of nonfat plain Greek yogurt with a tad of cinnamon and a packet of Equal. It is heavenly! It was one of the first "treats" I was given way, way back when I first become diabetic (1984.) Of course, back then the yogurt wasn't Greek. The snack if filling, full of fiber and protein too!
  • Hoping you are able to keep with a healthy diet and that it works for you. I was fortunate to have no complications from my surgery at all and have never vomited even once in the 15 months since I had RNY. I would definitely be working with a dietitian so that you stay on a healthy track. Good luck and Merry Christmas!
  • Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I had gastric bypass 15 months ago and life has been amazing since! Hope everything goes as smoothly for you as it has for me. MFP is great, as is the group here. Feel free to send a friend request--I'm on here every day and have been for about 625 days straight. I have found that to be…
  • I'm thinking the reason for the necessity of the sublingual B12 is for the absorption issue and I believe that in capsule or caplet form it won't absorb properly in gastric bypass patients. I know that it is mandatory to use either the under the tongue, on the tongue meltaways, liquid drops, or shots for weight loss…

  • Mix a little meat tenderizer in with some hot water. It will break down anything that is stuck. Do NOT make yourself throw up. That's a very dangerous way to go.
  • Yes, obviously, I too, had a bad relationship with food. Mine went way back. I was never taught, really, what was healthy and what wasn't. My mom was a type I diabetic who was never taught and never knew what to teach her daughters, who were both also type I diabetics. When I was diagnosed, I was about 20 pounds…
  • At 5 months out, I know I was really focusing on getting that protein in and probably trying very hard still to stay away from anything processed. I believe that I ate a lot of chicken, fish, ground turkey, turkey bacon, lowfat cheeses, cottage cheese, nonfat greek yogurts, etc. I think whole grains like oatmeal are great…
  • I am shocked that you were told you would lose 5-7 pounds a week. Heck, I've been lucky to lose that much per month--even at the beginning! And I had gastric bypass. I find that slower, steady weight loss is so much healthier. I have never lost any hair, my blood levels are excellent and my health is 150% (in my book)…
  • No judgment here!!! This is a place where we understand and are here for everyone. Many of us have been there. I am 14 months post gastric bypass. Prior to my surgery I couldn't walk to my mailbox--about 20 steps out my front door. I am a type I diabetic and I was on over 155 units of insulin a day. I was using a cpap…
  • I think it's whatever you're comfortable with. I don't think I ate snacks at first--it was too hard to get the water in when I did, with the not drinking 30 minutes before or after meals. I do snacks now sometimes, but not always. I am 14 months post gastric bypass.
  • Congrats on your surgery and the decision to change your life! Best advice that should already have been given is keep bites dime sized and chew, chew, chew. Make those meals last at least 20 minutes. Always do your protein first, then your veggies, and if there is room, a bite or two of starchy foods. I almost never made…
  • I've hit so many plateaus along the way over the last 14 months! One of them lasted over 3 months! My dietitian tried to sell me on the "set point theory" thing and I just wouldn't buy it. I kept doing what I knew was right and finally, the scale moved and the inches dropped. As long as you are following the program, it…
  • Peanut butter. I hated anything that remotely tasted like peanut butter--or any nuts at all for that matter. Now, I crave peanut butter occasionally and love nuts. Of course, I am a little nuts....
  • I sent you a message. Hope to hear back from you!
  • Made my goal this morning. Took me forever, but it feels so good--especially after trying to get there for several months! Goal was 135 and I made it to 134.8. The best part is that the inches in the waist are going down!
  • Congratulations on your surgery!! You'll be amazed and just wait till this time next year!!!
  • Thanks so much for all the kind responses! I just wish the weight that came off came off where I WANTED it to come off--the stomach area. I'm thinking that I would have to shoot for 10-20 more pounds to lose it, but am afraid of losing it in the wrong places. But on the other hand, much of it could be skin that I am…
  • Finally making progress, and why and how I don't know because I have eaten some wonderful holiday foods recently. I am at 135.8 now, 0.8 pounds from my final goal. That will put my BMI at just under 22 and I think I am happy with that. I THINK.
