Congrats! Though I had rny instead of the sleeve, the sleeve was my first choice. I had other health issues and my surgeon and I felt that bypass was right for me. Hope all goes well with your insurance and with the surgery itself! It's a life changing experience and I have no regrets. This is a great group and lots of…

At 9 months post op RNY I still feel "hunger" much of the time. I find that sometimes what I think is hunger is really thirst and can curb that feeling by drinking water (or flavored water.) I also try to focus on healthy fats and protein to keep that "full" feeling as long as I can. I do agree that "toughing it out" is…

At 9 months out from RNY, I have lost 100% of my excess weight--hit the "healthy" range at 7 months post op. I still want to drop about 12 more pounds to be in the lower end of "healthy," as I am a type I diabetic on an insulin pump. My problem is not knowing what is still "fat" and what is actually skin. My surgeon seems…

Central air is set at 73 degrees Fahrenheit, but by mid afternoon my thermostat will read about 88 degrees. I have NO insulation in the attic of my rental home, so the air runs constantly. I don't think the actual temp in the house is 88--probably more like 75 midday. Night time it's pretty much spot on and the air will…

I'm still in! I started this challenge July 9 at 143.2 with my goal to reach by Labor Day of 135. Currently, I am 142.2. Have talked with my family about joining a gym, but not sure when the funds will be there to do this. Probably not before Labor Day, but I will continue the strength training I have been doing at home…

Very glad to hear that your surgery went well! I imagine it has to be very hard on your little one, and on you, but this time of healing passes quickly. Congrats on your new life, your new journey. I have never regretted my choice for one minute.

VERY happy that everything went as planned and you are doing so well!

^^^This!^^^ I was so thrilled also! I hated waited so long, went through so many denials before approval. I think my only apprehension was that I would get to the hospital (135 mile away) and they'd tell me it was denied again. The surgery didn't scare me, I knew what to expect anesthesia wise--I am very slow to wake up…

I won't be able to have the surgery to remove excess skin-my insurance here won't cover it. The only place I really need it is my upper arms. Maybe TMI, but the chest area is deflated and I could use a lift there. Went from a 44DD to a 34B, and lots of loose skin there. I look like a shar pei dog. I have been told that the…

I was doing almost zero carb, just fruit and vegetables. My surgeon and dietitian told me I NEEDED to add back things like whole grains (didn't say it had to be wheat.) They suggested oatmeal, grits, raisin bran even. They did tell me that a piece of bread was not a no no. I was given a copy of the bariatric food pyramid.…

I agree that Bariatric Advantage are great. Celebrate are good too, as is Bariatric Fusion. I believe Bariatric Fusion (you can find online) is much cheaper than the other two brands. I was advised against Flintstones because they are not made for weight loss surgery patients. Also, make sure if you are having gastric…

I'm all for a Labor Day Challenge! That's 8 weeks--July 9 thru September 2. I'll start this off. Current weight: 143.4 Goal weight: 135 Going to keep up with the strength training, but try to lift heavier. Need to get back into some more cardio again because I have slacked off.

I agree that fear of the unknown is completely normal. I went through 3 denials before my surgery and was at the point that I was just going to do it on my own, and I was losing a little weight very slowly--I had dropped my calories to 800 and below to actually start seeing some slow weight loss. I was starving! As a type…

Congratulations!!! I'm waiting for the day that my size 10's are too big, then the size 8's. I'm stopping at a 6, though. That's plenty skinny enough for me. That's my teen size, so I'll take it!!!

Originally from Beloit, Wisconsin! Been in Orange, Texas for most of my adult life now. Miss it up there!!!

This week I fit into a size Small skirt and wore it to church. The day before I helped do a food order at church and carried about 50 boxes--some of them weighing up to 50 lbs. I carried them, unpacked them, filled orders back into them, sealed them, and carried them to cars. Did this for about 4 hours straight. A year ago…

Will be more than happy to help you out in any way I can. My surgery was 9 months ago and I have lost almost all of my weight. I'm on here everyday. Will send you a friend request.

My sons are in their 20's now, but when my youngest was about 2 1/2, we were shopping in Target in the boy's clothing area. A lady was shopping and she just happened to have some REALLY big knockers on her. My sons had just watched "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" by Disney, and my youngest, as loud as could be says, "WHAT A…

Completely amazing! What a beautiful family!

I have several recipes for lower calorie, lower sugar, sugar free, fat free things that use Crystal Light, sugar free jello, or sugar free pudding in them. One is a pie that uses sugar free Crystal Light Lemonade and Sugar Free Cool Whip to make an "icebox lemon pie." I'm in the U.S. so I'm not sure what products you have…

I never lost a lot of hair--not much in my brush and I think I saw 4 or 5 strands fall out when I blow dried my hair. At nine months out, it is thicker than ever (too thick, in fact!) Only issue is it is a bit drier than usual. But I always had issues with that in the past anyway, so that might not be due to the surgery.

Well, this is it!!! Happy July 4th everyone!!! This was a great challenge and there were times I didn't think I would make my goal, but I got there somehow... My starting weight was 158 My goal weight was 145 This morning I weighed in at 143.6! I managed to surpass my goal by a whopping 1.4 pounds! Hope everyone enjoyed…

Totally agree. Not all surgeons, dietitians, or teams are created equal. I am a firm believer in finding what works for you, individually, and sticking with it. It's a learning process after surgery. Yes, some surgeons do promote certain products. There are quite a few great products out there. While I did not mind the…

Unjury is not bad, though I preferred Bariatric Advantage. Every surgeon has a different plan for the pre op diet. Mine was only one week, but for he also bases it on weight. I only had to do one week and my plan was 3 BA shakes per day (using water) and a meal in the evening consisting of 5 oz.meat like chicken breast,…

Definitely Karen Carpenter, but I also think losing Heath Ledger is very sad, John Ritter was tragic, Patrick Swayze will be missed, and I have to mention the recent death of the legendary George Jones. I am a fan of ALL kinds of music, but Jones was a legend in his own right.

Good luck! Let us know how things went when you can!

I had rny on 9/27/12 and have lost all of my excess weight in only 9 months. I am striving for 10 more pounds and will be back to my teen weight--back when I was very thin. I don't see much loose skin, unless you count my upper arms. I have had NO problems, no dumping, no throwing up ever. I started my weight loss plan…

Final Check in: Current weight 146 Goal weight: 145 It seems my weight is dropping when I eat more, so I upped my calories a bit and we'll see if I can get to goal by July 4!

These are "fatkinis?" Heck, finally a two piece that I could wear! Geez, even when I was 18 and 115 lbs (I'm 5'5") I still needed one of these! No matter what these are called, they look great. Think I'll find myself one! I could care less what they are called. Heck, the name is actually a hoot!
