  • Thanks for all the replies. I'm not doing heavy weights - doing 3 sets of 15 on machines as instructed by the instructor. I'm not in pain, just a tad stiff so on balance I've decided I'm going - I'll put in a good warm-up. @upgetupgetup - thanks for the advice but my gym doesn't have a swimming pool and I'm a useless…
  • thanks ironsmasher
  • Thanks for the infos all. @jimmmer I have Starting Strength, I purchased it a while back but ended up doing other stuff but will dig it out again. @mrdexter1 - my Spanish has improved rapidly already. I lived in Portugal for 5 years, but as I was married then our social circle consisted largely of other English speaking…
  • @upbeatMaria and others thanks so much for telling me about Whole Foods store. My shaving rash has completely stopped since using these products and my skin looks so much better. :) I obviously have an intolerance to some or all of these commonly used chemicals in the 'normal products. I'm back in Ireland now which doesn't…
  • I visited a whole foods store in Piccadilly a few days ago. It's a very popular store. Anyway I bought a range of sls and paraben free products - mostly men's stuff by Bulldog, price wasn't bad either - only marginally more than regular stuff. So far they seem to be working out ok.
  • Thanks for the replies so far folks. Was travelling yesterday so didn't manage to reply until now. I see there are whole foods stores in London, UK so I will try to visit one as I'm nearby at the moment. I am a bit concerned with the price, not exactly awash with cash at the moment :( but I will defo try some of the…
  • I have mixed feelings about this. I can relate because I went through depression in my teens over what I can see in hindsight were silly issues. You are not fat whatsoever, let's make that clear! You do have self esteem issues, that can be changed and tbh one way of doing that is not to focus on yourself, we are all…
  • tbh besides people with eating disorders I reckon most people's idea of ideal weight is heavier than what their ideal weight actually is. When you see so many clearly overweight people when you are in a 'healthy range' it can be tempting to think well I'm alright now. I'm back to the sort of weight I was 2 decades ago and…
  • ?? if you meant aus $1.549 per litre - that's £1.02 according to xe.com
  • Portugal here - similarish prices to UK. Petrol is cheaper in our area than most others. Currently about €1.68 = £1.33 per litre. In more expensive areas it can be more than 10 cents dearer. So roughly £1.31 to £1.41. Diesel is about 20% cheaper here than UK though! Cars are very expensive here - even second hand cars are…
  • Thanks have seen a few people mention ZMA. Have no idea what GNC is - guessing some American store! Anyway I see that Holland & Barrett a UK and Ireland based health store chain have got it. I'm on hols there in a few days so will get me some then. Going to give Melatonin another try tonight.
  • Sex.. what's that! I'm married! Anyway as I said I've no issues falling asleep, it's getting a proper night sleep where the problem lies.
  • Thanks all for the suggestions so far. Some I've tried already - mostly the non-pill related stuff. Some of the brands mentioned I mightn't be able to get here (Portugal) but maybe they have a counterpart. Well I've got a whole packet of Melatonin now, so guess the least I can do is vary the dosage. The tablet I have has…
  • Appropiate topic for me this morning as I have a pretty bad hangover - truth of the matter is I'm an all or nothing person - I don't do moderation in anything I do. I got a friend's stag party and wedding and another holiday coming up over the next 3 weeks. When I'm done with that I think I will give up alcohol for good! I…
  • WOW. Seriously wow. I've seen many great changes here but....that's quite possibly the biggest certainly face wise. Well done! just shows the benefits that people can get if they are determined enough. My own face has got quite a bit thinner. Got mixed comments on it, but the truth is my face was never actually round…
  • You're outlook doesn't apply to me and from what I've seen on MFP not to many others either. I'm 41. I eat plenty of meat (nothing against vegetarains btw - I think it's a worthwhile lifestyle choice) and loads of protein. I would agree you are better off having more white meat than red if you are a meat eater. I don't…
  • Thanks for the suggestions all. I'll try all those foodstuffs next time I get up of the wrong side of the bed! @gombolyu Doing something physical like dancing or exercising is often a good way alright. I probably should have forced myself to just do something earlier just to get myself out of first gear. Eventually…
  • Cool. Really admire your perseverance and patience. This is a great site imo if used wisely. You can learn a lot here - requires a bit of filtering the good stuff from the ahem not so good stuff and patience and determination which you seem to have.
  • I'd take it  When I eventually (hopefully not too long) get on to a calorie surplus. I don't do weights as such as I workout at home, but doing intense enough training at home. Kettlebells, different types of press ups, sit-ups, squats, etc etc. Still I imagine my muscle gain would be even less when I'm not doing…
  • I'm not focusing too much on what I'm going to look like, just on what I'm going to be able to do physically. In 5 months of being on MFP I've improved loads physically but there's still some things which I can't yet do! So in terms of ego I guess I'd like to be able to do things so that people will say 'no fk'in way'....…
  • Slightly off topic... but speaking of bad parenting. I was working in Stockport, England about a decade ago for a while. While on a lunch break walking around the town with a work colleague we heard a mother shout at her young 4-5 year old kid 'Bradley, will you ever stop f$%^ing cursing'. We were in stitches laughing at…
  • I wasn't a fat kid but I was a fussy eater. I wish my Mam had given me a smack instead of pandering to childish whims, would have helped me more in the long run! Thankfully my fussy eating days are long behind me, changed pretty quick after I left home and got out in the real world. I don't have kids myself as seemed to…
  • Another thing I'd change is location details. If I enter my correct province and town for my profile, my province gets abbreviated to SA which means nothing to anybody, in fact I've been mistaken for being South African because of this, so had to change it.
  • First of all well done. I think you could have taken this a bit easier tbh, 28.5 KGS in 4 months is a massive amount and noticed you were under eating a bit and weren't eating back your cals. You're obviously a very determined fella - I think you can afford to be less stringent on your cals now and perhaps start taking…
  • Both kettlebells and jump ropes are great. I use both. Although a good burn rate is important of course, it's also about variety, I have jump ropes as part of my routine along with kettlebells.
  • I use unflavoured whey protein powder on its own. Way nicer imo than some of the disgusting sickly sweet other ones I tried. I really don't get the need to have it sweetened, nothing particularly horrible abut the taste of it on its own, except for being bland. The only thing I'm thinking of adding to it is fiber.
  • I reckon I'm about 37 degrees Celsius (that's 98.6 degrees in Fahrenheit) - though I just finished a hard workout so maybe I'm a little hotter now!
  • I'd also allow the ability to break down 'quick added calories' to proportions of fat, protein and carbs.
  • How about getting a mongrel, often are more intelligent, less genetic problems and less inclined to extremes in temperament (obviously depends on the individual dog and whatever mix it is). We got a puppy that was rescued from a bin, she might have no status symbol value but she's a fabulous intelligent fun loving dog,…
