Interesting. Does he have any actual data gathered through a scientific study?

Congrats!!!

It would be far less confusing if Dr. Fuhrman didn't use the word "calorie", which, as has been pointed out, is a unit of heat. Just say "some foods are healthier than others." But then, everyone already knows that...

http://www.jacn.org/content/18/2/115.full OP is 5'7" >200 lbs, so I figured she qualified (no offense) as obese. I'm 5'9" 166 and I'm losing fat while maintaining muscle eating 1700 calories/day while doing cardio and weight lifting. While one person does not make a rule, I think there is room for discussion with regards…

How would you define "defending.... a country?" Because, arguably, nothing we did in the Pacific theater during WWII could be considered "defending a country" and yet I think the average GI who died fighting at Guadalcanal or Okinawa certainly earned some consideration for being called a hero. For that matter, would the…

I believe that is only because we have people willing to volunteer. I believe the Military Industrial Complex is too vast and powerful to allow defense spending to shrink appreciably. If the volunteer pool dried up, I definitely believe a draft would follow. Obviously I cannot speak for all 3 million, but I believe why…

I would like to point out (and perhaps this is my fault for slightly redirecting the topic), but Chris Hayes was specifically referring to "fallen" veterans as this was Memorial Day, which is specifically about honoring those who have died while serving their country. It might have been a slightly different issue if he had…

Yes, but a truck driver is doing this to benefit himself and his family. A military member does this to the benefit of the entire country. They go so that you don't have to. I don't know what could possibly be more heroic. I agree.
-
I would argue that unless you have served, you'll never truly know what it's like to serve. But that's just a personal opinion (to which we are all, thankfully, entitled). I see your point about defining heroism. Although I'm a veteran, I would *never* consider myself a hero. I did five years stateside and although it was…

Much like the other poster, I believe you are simply misinformed about what exactly it means to serve in the military. I think the average citizen only thinks of the Army fighting wars. It's just not just the soldiers who lose their lives. So many are called away, multiple times, and are away from everything....

I believe you have either not served yourself or not worked with those who do. I have done one and am currently doing the other, and I believe your position is flawed because of a lack of information. I think what you and Mr. Hayes fail to understand is that joining the military isn't the same thing as "a job." In civilian…

http://www.jacn.org/content/18/2/115.abstract Conclusion: The addition of an intensive, high volume resistance training program resulted in preservation of LBW and RMR during weight loss with a VLCD. In other words, even on 800 calories, these people maintained their lean tissue and lost fat.

"You do not want to do a bunch of ab exercises, because your stomach may start to look larger." I must respectfully disagree with this. Although it is true that the layers of fat might hide the abs, there are numerous benefits to having a stronger core.

This is great advice!!!

Post-run I always drink a protein shake and usually eat a piece of fruit like a banana or tangelo.
-
I'm sure everyone has different experiences and advice, but just in case this particular answer isn't covered, I'll tell you what is the truth for me: it doesn't. You just have to suck it up and decide if it's worth it. I believe it is. I describe it like this... running still makes me miserable, but I can be miserable for…

The earbuds I mentioned clip the whole way around the ear.... I have never had one slip off my ear, but I would be lying if I said you forget they're there. But they are comfortable enough. I have no complaints. And they are only $14 on Amazon.

I agree with this 100%. I just finished C25K a week ago and I definitely experienced ups and downs, especially towards the beginning. Even this week, I ran on Thursday and Friday and ran at a significantly better pace on Thursday. I have no idea why... maybe I didn't eat enough on Friday, maybe I was tired, maybe my mind…

Would you say that sexuality is an individual's outward manifestation of their innate orientation?
-
Yikes! I wondered why you used the word "stupid".... I'm not *that* much of a jerk... well... I guess that depends on who you ask.... I think I'm slowly making it onto a few lists around here....
-
Can you explain the difference between sexuality and orientation? I tried teh Google but nothing really definitive is coming up and I'd like to understand this.

Na na na na na na na... na na na na na na..... gettin' jiggy wit it.... I thought you meant total gross... which.... I think is unlikely. But weekend... hmmm... yeah.... maybe.

Because of all of the positive statements about how people should feel free to live their lives as they see fit without getting dumped on by society? If you can't take away from this thread the realization that there are people who are intellectually curious and interested in discussing the subject with the basic…

Ouch!!! I guess it would have been better if I had been insulting and rude to the person claiming that failure to give a child whole milk will result in brain damage?? It wasn't trying to "stir the pot"... I was trying to be subtle. How's this... my kid drank 2% milk and started reading at the age of four. YMMV. Better?
-
And... how do kids in Japan not suffer brain damage from a lack of cow's milk?
-
I'm just curious... how did human brains develop before the domestication of the cow?

Sorry, I couldn't resist
