  • I'm in Manhattan for a while, and am planning a LONG run through Central Park today! I'm especially inspired because the NYC Marathon is going on today as well! Maybe I can just pretend... Hello to all the new people on the thread!
  • I've never hiked a whole week of it before, but i grew up in the NC mountains and would go on day long hiking trips on the Appalachain Trail. As for exercises to prepare, I would say mostly endurance cardio and maybe some stair stepper... it's steep!
  • That is a CHALLENGE! Got in 30 minutes this morning. I'm traveling right now, so worked out in the hotel's tiny fitness center! At least I had it all to myself! Will be in the car most of today, but maybe I'll do jumping jacks at gas stations or something!
  • This would be great for me! I have 20 pounds to lose to reach my goal of 150, and my body is losing those pounds SLOWLY. I'd really like to lose 3-4 pounds this month and be down to 160 by New Years! Thats gonna take a lot of self control over the holidays, so it would be great to have motivation from people in the same…
  • I also only shop at Trader Joes! i can get a weeks worth of produce and healthy meals for like 50 bucks! I'm also a vgetarian, and they have so many delicious options! Here are some of my faves: vegan meatless meatballs organic quinoa light champagne vinagairette dressing kale ( in the bag, I use it for kale chips... so…
  • I'd love to join! I'm at 170 right now and would love to drop 10 pounds to start the new year off right!
  • 5'11" here too! We're already friends, but I can always use more tall ladies to relate to! My goal weight is 150.... slowly but hopefully surely!
  • If you boil it with 2 parts water one part quinoa and let all the water boil out just like rice it should be nice and chewy!
  • I'm 5'11" and I'm currently at 170, but would love to get down to 150. Check out pics of Lindsey Vonn. She's our height and weighs 160 and posed in a swimsuit for Sports illustrated! My inspiration!
  • I love dipping cucumber slices in hummus! It's about as low cal as you can get! Also baby carrots. But if you must have a real chip, I would recommend POP Chips, or Stacy's pita chips! Enjoy!
  • I like this idea! I've seen a few that are close but... Here are my stats! female 5'11" SW: 180 CW: 170 GW: 150
  • So great to read through these posts and get new ideas and tips! :flowerforyou: Went to Trader Joe's the other day and last night had pasta with their vegan meatballs and low sodium marinara... it was delicious! Today will be a huge salad with lots of veggies, black beans, and a tofu burger cut into strips on top. mmmm....
  • "Ironically, the utterly unselective omnivore -- "I'm easy; I'll eat anything" -- can appear more socially sensitive than the individual who tries to eat in a way that is good for society." — Jonathan Safran Foer (Eating Animals)
  • I've been a vegetarian for a year, and almost a vegan, if I could just kick cheese! I've never been a fan of meat or milk/eggs, so this lifestyle hasn't been too difficult to adapt to. But cheese is hard to completely eliminate. Seems like it's on everything! I'd love to get some ideas from everyone on this thread!
  • YES! Tall ladies! I'm 5'11" and currently weigh 170, but a couple Summers ago got down to 155. Desperately trying to get back there and to my goal of 150. My body tends to be "comfortable" with extra pounds especially around my hips. UGH!
  • First of all, you're doing awesome! Congats on coming this far! When i am craving snacks at night, i make some chai tea and read a good book. Or better yet how about a fitness magazine! Looking at super toned fitness model bodies usually makes me put down my ice cream spoon... usually.
  • carrots and hummus sweet potato (just microwave for 5 min and its 100 cals!) POP chips (they're soooo good but low cal, you can find them at most groceries) Those are just a few off the top of my head! I also drink chai tea and it curbs my snack cravings. Tazo makes a great one in decaf and regular!
  • I've been strictly vegetarian for about a year as well, even though I've never eaten much meat. I love Gardein products. their chicken strips are great to put over a salad. Sometimes i make my own flat bread pizza. Flat Out makes a base and fill it with lots of veggie toppings. Also there are so many great veggie burger…
  • I have a major chip weakness, so i love their plantain chips with salsa! Really low cal and fufills my snack cravings!
  • I agree with what everyone has said, and most importantly don't give up!!! Running is one of the only things that you'll be able to feel yourself improving with every run as long as you stick with it!
  • First of all congratulations on running 1.15 miles! That is something to proud of to begin with! The 9k is at the end of May if I remember correctly ( another MFP friend is running it too!) The general rule of thumb is that you should increase your distance only by 10% each week, so that doesn't give you too much time, but…
  • I agree! Also the resistance strength training will keep burning calories after your workout as your muscles work on re-building. A combo of both cardio and strength is better in the long run!
  • Thank you so much everybody!!! I'll let you know how it goes and I want to hear about all of the goals you reach!!!
  • I've always had athsma and terrible allergies as well, so I feel your pain! You are definitey taking the right steps! Losing weight will really help, but I've found that what has helped more than anything is RUNNING! I started running about a year ago and my athsma is basically non existent now. Getting your heart pumping…
  • All natural peanut butter!
  • This is something I still struggle with every day. What has helped me is the realization that I'm not on a diet, this is the way I choose to live my life. If I slip up and have a big plate of nachos and a peice of cheesecake (two of my faves  ) instead of feeling guilty or giving up for the day or week, I try to…
  • 92 calories for all 15 rings! woo hoo! They really are great and I actually like them better than regular onion rings now. Crunchier!
  • First, congrats on maintaining your weight loss! Since you only have 19 pounds left to lose, calorie intake can be tricky. Do you have your goal set to lose 2 pounds a week? If so, that might be a bit unrealistic, since your body wants to hang on to the few extra pounds you still want to lose. I've found that the last 15…
  • First of all, congratulations on your success so far! Being healthy and feeling strong truly does change your life and attitude towards life. As for the gym, here are some suggestions off the top of my head: -Get a personal training session. Some places even offer the first one for free. -Ask a friend who is more…
  • I just started carrying water on my long runs of 8-10 miles because it's warming up outside, and while I'm not crazy about carrying it, it's helped! I have the amphipod 12 oz handheld which is easy to carry but not enough water for me, so next time I'm going to bring a couple bucks and buy a water to refill halfway through…
