Rosie and I ride nights in the winter most of the time and the temps often are in the mid 40s-50s range with limited visibility so it is a challenge to leave a warm house after work and get out for a ride. We do have fog on occasion and rain, though recently it has been somewhat scarce;, and, if we ride into the mountains,…

We need the rain here badly but I would like to avoid the fog.

Great bike cave

I am in for the base distance challenge. No can do the Rule 9 challenge since I cannot ride to work and CentralCali doesn't really qualify for Rule 9 anyway.
-
Go for both - you know you want to :D

Sounds good TBY Edit - I'll consider your two places Confirmed in that case

I hang bikes from the ceiling with u-hooks. It does mean you need a tall ceiling though. The way I do it is to run two 2 x 4s. In the past I just ran the hook into a ceiling joist but I like having the 2 x 4 screwed into the ceiling much better now.

MrsCentralCaliCycling and I would like to participate but we will likely have at least one off week since we will be moving in the middle of the Vuelta. Is there still room? TBY Edit - Provisionally booked in as #324 and #314

It works for me. Very intuitive and it doesn't seem slower to me.

Thanks to all for an enjoyable Tour and a special thanks to Mark (TBY) for his outstanding work in pushing, prodding, pulling the spreadsheet.
-
Thank you TBY for an enjoyable Tour - riding, working and watching the Tour until midnight or later will be in my memory for years to come. Having a riding partner this year for the challenges makes it even better so I also have to say thank you to my wife. I am afraid we may not be able to fully participate in the Vuelta…

If he is 5'8" with shorter legs then the 54 might work. The price is good (for a bike without frame damage) but a waste if the bike doesn't fit. Best thing to do would be for him to test it on a trainer and get it dialed in and then see how it feels (even better to have a bike shop be in on the fitting). To set up the seat…

Sounds like I am due as well although somewhere in the past I seem to remember a five year life span. Not sure I would trust the helmet industry to be truthful about the lifespan of a helmet since they make a living off of replacement gear but it certainly brakes, tires and helmets are the main ways to keep us as safe as…

I have seen bike trailers advertised on Craigslist for under $300. Basically it appears they take a utility trailer and put fork clamps crisscrossed on the bed.

My wife and I will be happy with whatever number you want to give us. We are not picky that way :D

Count myself and Rosie in please.

I kind of find it interesting. We have some Pros that train in our area and a local cycling monster who has most of the KOMs on the major climbs was fairly excited that Laurens ten Dam of Team Belkin just broke one of this KOMs a week or two ago although not by much. We all know the Pros are not out riding for the KOMs…

75-85 RPM is fine for someone new to the bike. If you want to be very fast then 85-90 is the norm, for some higher even but right now you should just get used to pedaling, up the RPM when you get comfortable sitting on the seat for more than 30 minutes. BTW (I posted my daughter's picture to my profile in support of her…

Sadly my 17 year old decided a couple of years ago to abandon riding in a group or while wearing spandex. He now reserves one of my bikes for emergency trips to visit his girlfriend when he can't get a ride from me. My daughter gave up riding completely around the same time but my step daughter has shown recent interest.…
