And a couple more just to show how big these trees are: Regular size trees Giant Sequoias (Rosie is the small person near the base of the tree)

Big rides and racking up the KMs: I would say that depends on what else is in your life. I work full time and don't get home until around 6 pm most nights, have three teens and a seven year old in the house that need more than food in the refrig, or at least the seven year old does. Lucky for me I have a wife who loves to…

The 3/4 point on our Saturday ride Stopped for a mid ride snack of trail mix, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Gatorade :) One of the National Trees that Rosie had not been up to visit before. This one is called the National Christmas Tree Driving back I thought I would take a picture looking back up to where we were riding.…

We have a lot of climbing options in my area. If I want I can think of four or five that can last from 10 to 20 miles solid and others with grades over 20% so I will give you my thoughts (as well as advice from experienced climbers) with that in mind. If it is a short climb (50 yards or less) and under 6-7% power up and…

I seem to be unable to tell what is taken and what isn't. MrsCCC and I would like to join though. If 328 and 329 are available we could take them.

One cup of coffee a day and not enough veggies - and I don't get eight hours sleep very often.

2500-3500 a day. Food is gasoline for the muscles.

Strength training builds muscles and helps to burn fat. Cardio will build muscle as well but the muscle it works most is your heart. Personally, I like having a healthy heart.

You can't without liposuction. It took more than 2 months to put it on and you can't expect it to come off in a magical time frame.

FASTER - music helps and another cyclist ahead even more since I have a hard time not chasing a rabbit.

Yes but a bread dough roller will work until you get one.

Glad I have a home gym and bikes. I have yet to have someone tell me that I can't use the road,,, Wait, come to think of it cars do it all the time.

Pretty much normal until your muscles get used to knowing what goes where. I use Shimano SPD-SL's which is pretty much like your Look Keo and even now on occasion I miss the clip.

You should not be riding on the sidewalk. If there is a path ride in the direction that the traffic is going. If there is no path ride to the right with traffic.

Excellent! I had a 305 and used it for several years then bought a 500 on eBay. My wife bought me an 800 for my birthday a few months back and it is the best :D Seriously, any Garmin (or GPS device) helps motivate and keep you out there when staying home might feel much better - I enjoy Strava mostly for the motivation and…

Which Garmin did you end up with?

Excellent work Harksey - congrats to a great winter of riding.

Sounds like a good group that I might be interested in as well. Where do I find it?

If you have the funds and it makes you enjoy life more... That said - Q-rings

So does this mean I have to install something to read cadence and speed or will my Garmin cadence sensor work with the dongle?

I have rollers and a gel trainer but was looking for something a little more hightech, mostly for mental stimulation as well as for something more "roadlike" than the options I already have.

My yearly plan involves 5,000 miles of riding (it won't kill me if I get more or less but 100 a week has been my goal every year since I got back into riding in 2007). that said I am hoping to do at least a couple of organized Century rides with my wife to show her what they are like, the Climb 2 Kaiser extreme riding…

I would say that when you are riding with a couple of friends, one of whom is a beginner, it really isn't a group ride so group riding etiquette might not apply. I have been riding with newer riders a lot over the past couple of years and have brought a couple along to a point where they can ride with the actual groups…

Looks like a kids bike for adults - with an adult price to go with it.

Sounds like you are describing a cross bike. Pretty much all of the majors have them and depending on your budget Disc brakes are really nice, something like this: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/cyclocross/crossrip/crossrip_limited/#

The weather hasn't been bad here but my wife and I both ended up with some kind of killer bug that doesn't want to go away so we missed out on planned rides on Sunday and Tuesday - hoping to be ok for the weekend.

Funny that the author of the article did not ask car drivers to follow the rules to let others know they are good citizens as well. BikeSnob today mentioned that in NYC over a million cars run lights every year but newspapers and others who like to point the finger at cyclists never seem to mention the fact that running a…
