If we say it's a lifestyle choice, than drug and alcohol addiction is not a disease but a lifestyle choice. It's a tough one because we also allow the manufacturing and selling of extremely unhealthy, processed foods. A lot of our young adults and youths don't know what eating healthy is. They don't know what a true…

Cereal with banana's and almond milk. Not really unhealthy if portion is controlled. I can't have one bowl, so I don't have any except once in a while. Also carne asada! Holy cow. Juicy perfectly bbq'd ranchera meat cooked on the grill. Okay I think I am drooling on the keyboard now.

I spent 10 years there. I just want to share support and motivation. We all know that it's not easy, but it is possible. Every pound that I have lost has been earned, but you can do it! HW: 236 SW: 202 (03/24/2013) CW:182 GW: ?

Do it! You are in better shape than I was when I started. I remember the first week doing 60 sec runs and wanting to stop at 45 secs. Now a 5k is a typical run for me going to start training for a half after I get back from vacation. (I've even signed up for a 5k in the town we will be in) You are more than ready.

I am also 38 and 5'6". When I ran back when I was 225ish, it hurt plain and simple. I am 182 now, and it is so much easier. My legs, knees, ankles used to hurt so bad. I swear there was always something I was icing. I also didn't get good shoes until I hurt myself and couldn't run. I thought the shoes I was running in were…

Another vote for c25k or there is also as mentioned the c25k zombie app. C25k is a free app and the Zombie c25k is I think $2. I like both. I also have the 10k app because my long term goal is to run a half. I had tried running without these apps and always grew frustrated and failed. I have now run 5ks and will be doing a…

Hawks fan all the way!

I'm 5' 6.75" and was 190 at my last weight in. I know that even when I weighted 160 people would ask wear I was hiding it. From 175 on it was in my face, arms, everywhere!

WWWOOOOOWWW! Amazing transformation!

That number is for you and no one else. Put what number you feel you should. Where do you feel you started? I lost a few pounds 5 years ago and never gained it back but didn't continue. I don't put that in my starting weight because for me, that's not where I started when I made this lifestyle change.

Every half training program I've found starts with 3 mile runs. It's possible you could do this, but you are going to have to be very structured with your runs and careful not to overtrain and hurt yourself. I ran my first 5k 2 weeks ago, and I'm not doing a half until mid-October.

Since I have started exercising, I need more sleep. I have also struggled with anemia my whole life, but for me, it's the added exercise that has made me more tired. I used to sleep about 6 1/2 hrs a night. I now need about 8. I've also heard overtraining can make you feel tired all the time.

Sometimes NSV's can be the best! So happy to hear these. I had several over the weekend. First off I have to say that I was getting a little frustrated with the lack of movement on the scale, but comments made over the weekend helped. First, I saw a friend that I haven't seen since last October and she said "wow, what have…

I just went last week to a running store and got fitted. They did the gate analysis too. I tried on several pair, but the shoe I wanted was $145. Way too much for me to spend. I came home and found them online at running warehouse for $64.88. I then searched and found a promo code. I paid $55.15 shipped. I just ordered…

Great suggestions! Thank you. I am downloading right now.

I do it all the time! I workout at home, so it's okay. My kids don't mind. I haven't worked out with my husband there though, but I sound like there is some crazy breast coming out as I exhale sometimes. lol That is the true sign of a good workout for me.

The first time I tried "getting in shape" I was very very thin and gained 14 pounds. Of course that was years ago. I have a good 40#'s to lose and I actually gained a pound over a two week period and stayed there. I am now dropping daily (yes I step on the scale daily and I don't care :) ) I have heard that if has…

Yes thay is definately me. In fact it looks like my back yard. I am very lucky to have so much around me. I have lived here for 13 years and had no clue. Then I decided to get active and bam. Here is a link to my planned hike for Sunday if I can after doing a 5k on Sat.…

You have to buy it on costco.com. I don't know how long they will last at that price. I've had mine 3 weeks and paid 150.

I have BMF and I love it! Right now it is on sale at Costo for 99$ and that comes with a free year with no monthly fee.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes I am really going there. My profile pic is from last Saturday's hike to Fairfax. I'm standing on what's left of the steps into the schools swimming pool. I will post some pics in my profile as I don't know how to do it in a thread. :) Well I'll try anyway. lol

Oh my gosh your story made me cry. What a great thing that you have taken running and yourself back! Good for you and keep running and moving on living YOUR life!

I love running! Just a few short months ago, I honestly couldn't run to my neighbor's house. I did start by walking for a couple of weeks first though. I think running is one exercise/sport where you can grow so fast. It doesn't seem fast, but what other exercise can you start out barely doing 60 sec's of it to 30 min of…

I'm no Dr but I think anytime is a good time. Maybe just start off a little slower though. Take a few weeks taking walks just to get those leg muscles, tendons, and such to wake up and start getting stronger.

I did a c25k while doing JMBR. I ran my first 5k April 21, and I'm now training for a half. I have been fine running while doing BR. I have altered it though. I do BR 4 days a week and run 4 days a week. I do my long runs on the cardio days for BR. Also, I am progressing slowly (this also has to do with a torn rotator cuff…

I did c25k while doing weeks 1-6 (I took longer to do each week) of Jilliam Michaels BR. I am now training for a half marathon and still pushing through the weeks. I do JMBR 4 days a week and run 4 days. I do my long runs on days that I would normally do the cardio portion of BR. I say push through it if it is muscle…

This is such a grea idea. I wonder why I haven't seen it sooner. I'm a hiker and I love it! Count me in. So are we counting walking, running, and hiking miles? My hiking miles since the thread began April 1st: April 1-5.26 miles to Melmont Ghost Town, Wa April 14-2.34 miles Pinaccle Peak-really tough hike up and back with…

That is awesome! I can't imagine the strength it takes to do what you have done! Congratulations! I just finished my first 5k two weeks ago. I am doing my second Saturday. I am planning on moving onto 10k, and half. I'll start there. lol Did you use a plan and if so, could you share?
