  • Thank you very much! I've been weighing way too often, but I think I will feel more free to relax once I get in my stride and once I've reached a certain milestone number right around the corner. I never cared to get the grades in school that I knew I could get, but if I do care about something, I DO do the research. I…
  • At the moment, I'm a pescetarian and have only gone over carbs twice since I started a few weeks ago. I also don't eat fish every day. My diary is open if you want to take a look.
  • I know I wrote a lot, so I thought I'd highlight some of my questions. I'd really appreciate some feedback.
  • How long have you been at it?
  • That's what I did yesterday when I still had 700 to go at 8:30pm.
  • I checked out your diary. You did this and still had Taco Bell and jelly beans?? Damn. SlimMama, you are proof that obsessing is not the way to be healthy! You go!
  • ^^^That's what I said. Congrats!
  • This. Maybe your diet has been different since you've been sick, but from a quick peek, you're not eating enough calories to reach your goal--you're getting even less nutrients. Maintenance is probably a good idea, but definitely also change what MFP keeps track of to include vitamins.
  • I didn't used to have any problem eating calories when I wasn't working out and eating right. Now it's like I'm having a Kobayashi vegetable eating contest. I just said to myself, "I have to eat way more earlier in the day." Especially if you know you'll make your routine. I've heard fruits have more calories than…
  • "FIND YOUR PEOPLE" -- wisest words spoken on this thread. I hated my college until I found my people. I hated Paris, France--one of the most serene cities in the world, because I couldn't find my people. I was pissed to be home again, until I found my people, and it turns out, in my home town, they're mostly middle-aged…
  • Thanks. I'm doing all of that now, except the shell-fish--I think I'm allergic. Maybe some more meat substitutes more often will be good or just bigger portions. I usually have no problem eating too much! Can I keep my deficit at an average for the week? Example: Lose 700 for exercise in a day, so eat 100 extra each day…
  • I'm not gonna put up a fight--I will do better to eat back my exercise calories. Know any high-calorie, low-fat/sodium foods for a pescetarian? Would that be mostly carbs?
  • I started couting calories two weeks ago. I'm 5 feet tall so keep that in mind! I've been drinking an average of 4 cups of water a day (I'm sorry, but I can't do more at this point, I just can't.). Been eating an average of 1452 calories per day. And have averaged a deficit of 848 calories per day. My weight has been…
  • Anyone want to go into business designing and selling boots for larger-calved women? I see a seriously under-served market here. ; P
  • That's not an excuse to go back to eating the way you did before, is it? Try something other than "all or nothing". Don't be so strict that you have no life in your life, but don't use your unhappiness as a crutch to hide back into the way you were. Have you ever heard of the law of diminishing returns? Have one peep, but…
  • Walking, walking, walking. I lived in Paris for 7 months, and having no car, I had to walk everywhere. That made the biggest difference. Making a lifestyle change, it makes sense that your body changes to be more appropriate for what you're doing with it. If you walk it everywhere, it'll reward you by making your body more…
  • My calves are sick. I did point ballet growing up and I cheered in high school. ("Oh gee, you must have been thin." Um, noooo!) I am thankful for this thread. I feel the pain. Anytime I'm complimented on my calves, I have to admit I don't take it well. AND OH THOSE CHARLIE HORSES! I'm not at the point yet where I can…
  • I don't mean to post three in a row, but one last suggestion (and I hope I'm being helpful) is to expand your food repertoire. I went grocery shopping today after work and was able to come home to a meal of cottage cheese with strawberries and blackberries in a multigrain tortilla. Yuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmm. If that doesn't…
  • Everyone's body is different, though. It might be perfectly OK for you to eat more natural sugars than MFP suggests--don't let a machine dictate your happiness. You can talk to a Dr. and discuss changing the goals you have set for daily nutrition. Staying under 16g of fiber seems impossible, but I wouldn't dare stop eating…
  • If you're not happy with other areas of your life, focus on other areas of your life. Read a little about feng shui and intentions or try out a site like MindBloom.com where you grow a virtual tree by logging actions, each branch representing a different area of life--make that your daily obsession instead. You can still…
  • I agree it has to do with learning to love yourself, but a helpful tip might be to try to recognize it when you're doing it. Maybe you don't have to understand the WHY yet, but if you can at least catch yourself doing it, try to force yourself to change the comparison game. See someone else and say something positive about…
  • My guess is either sleeping in a funny position or having worked your muscles in a way you're not used to.
  • "Once you start eating and exercising (keep in mind your calorie deficit will get smaller as you get closer to goal so you will automatically have more calories to eat the smaller you get) you will eventually start feeling hunger signals. You'll end up eventually working out just so you can eat more. This is a good thing.…
  • That was definitely helpful. It suggests reading the "mousetrap" posts, and I'm sure I will--I'm one of those people who insist on knowing everything. But... the one thing I found confusing was eating back exercise calories. I exercised for an hour and burned 740 calories Friday. There's no way I could have eaten back all…
  • My favorite sandwich lately has been a spicy Boca meatless chicken patty (160 cal) on a Trader Joe's fiber bagel (220 cal) with spinach, a touch of A1 and less than half an oz of goat cheese. Goat cheese, because that's what was in the fridge then, but I'll probably switch it over to Laughing Cow. It's all protein, fiber…
  • Thanks all. Lots to keep in mind. I have definitely been finding the 8 cups of water a day to be a challenge. Maybe I'll try to make it a more do-able, consistent 4 for now. Despite being a pescetarian (fish is the only meat I eat, and maybe twice a week), I've been surprised to find myself over my protein goal more often…
  • I wear a minimizer (I've had decent luck with Playtex--4 hooks, thick straps!) with a sports bra on top of it. The minimizer keeps the ta-tas separated while the sports bra pulls everything in. Maybe not ideal but it gets the job done. Basically eliminates sweaty boob cleavage, too. Definitely limit the time you wear both,…
  • I fell in love with the Daisy Fuentes hipster panties a few years ago--they were the only underwear I'd wear until Kohls stopped seeming to carry as much in stock. They're lace, but they're sturdy. They let your lady-parts breathe, and I find that they lay well on my body. Definitely worth checking out. Good luck!…
