Everything is bad if you eat too much of it. White, brown, wholemeal whatever. Eat in moderation and you don't have a problem. Eat a whole loaf and you do.

No. But it's a personal choice. Have been using MFP since the end of March and I haven't once gone over the goal. I've never been a snacker or a particularly big eater so I don't find it that hard to stay under the calorie goal each day. Do what works for you. What other people do doesn't really matter.

Congrats. I'm about 20 pounds behind you but hopefully closing fast !

Most baffling thread ever. Fish high in calories ? Jeesh.

Height: 6' 2" Age: 44 Start Weight: 18 stone 6 Current Weight: 15 stone 11 Target Weight Range: 13 to 13 and a half Got a treadmill at the end of January. For about 6 weeks I was on the treadmill about 3 times a week. Didn't really change my eating habits at all. Lost about 4 pounds in 6 weeks. Thought this isn't good…

5k is 3.125 miles. You should be happy to do that in 35 minutes to start with. Forget anything less than that for now. Just take it easy. Doesn't matter if you get overtaken. Run at your pace. Enjoy it and be proud when you break the tape !!

I read on the internet that you should weigh yourself at 3:21 am every Tuesday. Must be true. On a more serious note whenever you do it keep doing it at the same time. Most people get up, go to the toilet, wash and before getting dressed step on the scales. Day doesn't matter. The time, place, scales do.
-
I suppose if you want to believe it is true then put on a jumper.

No.

Don't worry about going too slowly Ignore people who call 6mph a slow jog..it isn't if you have never run before Do what you are comfortable doing and build up gradually Good shoes Work out routes on something like Runkeeper Get some dri-fit tops Belt to hold phone, ipod etc

Don't have "Cake, chips, Ice cream" in the house. End of the day people on here can give all the advice they want. You need to have self discipline and be motivated to lose weight. It's not easy but it can be done. Just stop and think how much time you would need to run/walk/workout to burn off something before you eat it.

4 or 5 days a week. At the moment probably mostly on the treadmill as I build up stamina and endurance. Did my first outdoors 5k today.
-
More generally try and be on target over the course of the week. Do what you need to do to make this happen i.e. if you eat 500 over target one day eat 500 less spread out over other the days. Whatever works for you.

Exercise can be an aid to weight loss i.e. burns calories you don't need to replace. However, it's more about general fitness and a toned appearance. If you don't want to exercise then don't. You will still lose weight. However, I run to feel healthier, fitter, more athletic body etc. I want to be the correct weight AND…

As long as you eat the right amount over the course of a week to lose weight then do what you like.
-
You sound new to this. Perhaps your body is still adjusting. Three pounds gained in a week would take a lot of overeating. You need to find what works for you and stick to it. If you truly want to lose weight you will. Need to be disciplined. That's something only you can really deal with.

Well done on reaching your goal ! When I get to mine I am hoping it won't be hard to maintain. Exercise and healthy eating have just become normal parts of life for me. I enjoy it. Will just have to remember to eat a little bit more each day.
-
You need to eat 500 calories per day under maintenance levels (i.e. what you eat to stay the same weight) to lose 1lb a week. Therefore 2lbs a week is 1000 under per day and 3lbs is 1500 under per day. I'd say at your height and weight you should be happy to shift 1-2lbs a week i.e. 500-750 under maintenance. Don't set…

Are you implying if you'd eaten those EXACT same snacks BEFORE dinner you would have lost ? If so can you explain why ?

Friend of mine on here was 1,900 over last Sunday. I checked and it undid 4 days. One day out of seven to eat what you like just seems too much of a risk to me. Once a month, a special event but not one day in seven. Yes, have a treat (i.e. a cake, takeaway) but not a whole day. Just my opinion. As always you must do…
-
Just stating the science as I know it. One day of 1500 over nulls 3 days of 500 under i.e. 4 days which do not contribute to any calorific deficit. Maybe some people don't realise that.
-
One cheat day can ruin 3 good days i.e. 3 days 500 under followed by one day 1500 over. Four days down the toilet. As long as people remember that. People who do this once a week are effectively dieting for 3 days out of seven. Good luck with that.

MFP is a food diary. Veg and fruit is food. QED it goes in the diary.
-
Try setting the loss to one pound per week. To lose 2 will require you to be 1000 calories under what you would eat to maintain your current weight.
-
Why ? Explain more. Nothing wrong with anything in moderation. A chinese once every couple of months won't do anybody any harm. Just keep away from deep fried things. Too many panic merchants on here.
