  • Gulp; I read all of these posts then gave my three fluffy babies a hug. My heart aches for you, I know how much I love my little friends and I can't begin to think how it will feel when I lose them. You gave Harley a wonderful life, and as others have said, dogs are so loving and selfless, I am certain Harley will be right…
  • Oh poor you, my sister used to suffer like this, and I know from her it really isn't good. Like others have said try a good combination of veg each day. I also eat around 45-60g of mixed berries a day with Greek yogurt, flax and chia seeds. I do sometimes also have some milled hemp all of which does help. I am diabetic, so…
  • I eat Primal, and have done for quite a few months now. I came across this lifestyle through someone I met on an internet forum, it was a health forum (diabetes). He taught me about paleo/primal and as I was doing Atkins I thought why not. I cut out all grains, I don't drink any milk, and radically upped my sat fat intake.…
  • If I had read this a week or so ago I would have strongly disagreed. I saw a lovely top online and bought it, when it arrived, it has all decoration just under the bust line, going from seam to seam. From the decoration it is floaty, and when I tried it on and looked in the mirror, I looked a size smaller. Had I known it…

  • I'm diabetic so will log to make sure my carbs are fine. I doubt I will be bothered if the calories are high, but I would be very bothered if my BG was high, so yes, I will log as usual.
  • UK apple shape here as well. I have stick thin arms, legs and butt and still a round tummy even though 98lbs have gone. I have lost 5 waist sizes so it does move eventually, but I am a whole size smaller on the top than on the bottom. I lost weight from everywhere before the tummy started to move. I am around 18lbs away…
  • I suffered from chronic pain and inflammation for years. I couldn't function at all and life was hell. I was diagnosed with diabetes, so had to have a complete rethink of my entire diet. I ditched all carbs except complex ones in fruit, veg etc, and even then reduced my fruit to just berries, and veg grown above ground. I…
  • I'm a mom and I say your mom is wrong. I have two daughters and if they go through university (I am in the UK) and add a little weight, I would always encourage them if they wanted to drop it. I love my girls regardless and if they set out to do something I will always support them. Not all moms say dopey things :-)
  • I am going to go against all you've said (I am diabetic) and have found something that works for me. It may not work for anyone else, as we are all different even though we are all (very sweet) apples. :-) I found that cutting carbs, upping natural fats, reasonable amounts of protein got my weight moving - fast. For a long…
  • Floaty tops are good, as are tops that have a cowl neck or some sort of decorative neckline. It focuses peoples eye on the neckline rather than the tummy. I also wear longer length tunic tops, they flatter an apple. We have an awful shape to buy for, but you can look really lovely with the right clothes. I buy high waister…

  • I started my weight loss journey on Atkins and it worked for me. I then realized I needed a whole lifestyle change, and something I could live with forever, so I went primal. I have lost 98 pounds so far, and am almost at goal, but I know that the primal lifestyle is for me and suits me. I think if you do Atkins right,…
  • I weigh and log every last gram religiously, but I am diabetic so have to keep a tight reign on my carbs.
  • Don't be disheartened, I am also an apple shape. I have now lost 96lbs (sorry no pics). Initially all the weight went from my arms, legs face and neck, not an inch from my tummy. Then, it slowly began to move, and is now going at a better rate. I have stick arms and legs, and a bump, but patience has taught me, it does go.…
  • No I never do, only because I find it hard to manage my 1,500 a day I have set for myself.
  • I'm 46 and have lost over 90lbs since being diagnosed T2 diabetic in March. I began on Atkins induction, virtually no carbs, and really clean eating. I then heard about the Newcastle diet which had been formed to help T2 diabetic patients. I did four weeks of just three shakes a day, then four weeks of 2 shakes a day and…
  • I've worked it out, here in the UK we divide your figures by 18 so 100 US BG is 5.5 here. So if we divide, you multiply by 18. :-)
  • I'm T2 on Metformin. I'm in the UK so don't understand your BG readings, ours are in mmol/l and mine are around the high 4's to low 5's usually. My last A1c (or HbA1c as it's called here) was 4.9%. Metformin is seen as a very safe drug, so don't feel you have to stop taking it because it may cause harm. There is also some…
  • Absolutely spot on true. My diet is far and away more veggies and fruit than meat. Today I have had one smallish sized lamb steak, but cabbage, cauliflower, green beans, leeks, brussel sprouts, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. So it isn't an overly meat heavy way to eat, more a clean eating plan…
  • I sleep really well since I began Atkins in March. Now as a Primal eater I sleep 8-9 hours but wake up so refreshed. It really amazes me how much better life is all round now I only eat clean. The primal way of life rocks.
  • I eat Primal which is Paleo but also dairy. I choose to eat this way because I much prefer to put fresh wholesome foodstuff into my body. I don't eat anything prepackaged. I eat loads of fresh veg, berries and protein but as few carbs as possible. It is simply a lifestyle choice I made, and I have no intention of forcing…
  • Brilliant post on low carb eating. I am a T2 diabetic so have to cut my carbs. I eat less than 40g every day, and am in the best shape I have been for over 20 years. Since March I have lost 90+ pounds, and feel great. A low carb lifestyle is not for everyone, and I have gone one step further, I now eat clean Primal/paleo.…
  • I'm also in the UK but I am a T2 diabetic who eats ultra low carb/primal/paleo but feel free to add me if you would like. :-)
  • I usually forget, and as I never eat back exercise calories, I don't worry about it too much. I should really though, anyone looking at my diary will think I am a lazy moo. :-D
  • Yes, the carbs from fruit must be counted. I am under 40g of carbs every day, but I have 15g each of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, but they are all part of my carb allowance per day. Banana's, grapes and melons I never touch, and apart from my daily berries, can't remember the last time I ate any…
  • I so agree with this. My appetite comes in fits and starts, at the moment I am eating under 1,200 calories a day, tomorrow I could be back up to my regular 1,500. It all depends I think on what you are eating. I stopped giving myself mealtimes, and now I eat when I'm hungry. I am also Primal, so have lots of cream, full…
  • Almost all my friends are either diabetic or paleo/primal. People's shape makes no difference to me. I started out obese, I have just reached normal BMI so have been through all the stages, and I always had people supporting me, and I support them. Size or how long you have been here makes no difference to me at all.
  • I also eat a very low carb medium protein high fat diet and have the same results. My cholesterol is below recommended levels. I am T2 diabetic and this diet is perfect for me.
  • I have three, two Westhighland terriers a boy and a girl, and a Yorkshire terrier male. They are my fluffy babies and I love 'em to death.
  • Guilty as charged. I usually have mixed berries with Greek yogurt, flax and chia seeds every lunchtime. I had a change today as I am feeling a bit under the weather. Missed my usual lunch though, so will probably go back to it tomorrow. :-)
  • For dinner tonight I had skinless chicken breasts. In a bowl I mixed 2 large tablespoons of parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon of arrowroot, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and a large teaspoon of garam masala, then seasoned with freshly milled sea salt and pepper. Coat the chicken in the mixture, then I fried it in avocado oil. I…
