  • MFP set up 1460 calories as the goal. I try to get around 1250-1350 range limiting my total starch intake to 2.5 cups per day, 3 fruit, 4-5 vegetables, 3 dairy, 2 (2.5oz) cooked protein, 2 tbsp oil and walking 60 minutes every day with my dog. Heavy duty gardening twice a week helps with the weight loss as well.
  • Well done and keep on going. You can do it!!!
  • I was 21 and DH 23 when we got married. DH was so pleased and excited and told me that he now "had his own ole lady". He had heard it growing up all around him in very positive terms so for me it was and is a very loving and respectful name. Like so much else, it is in the eyes or ears of the beholder.

  • I kept falling down on weekends and holidays when one is expected to share and make different than normal dishes. Finally I decided that I had to consciously examine each item and weigh the consequences of eating it and whether it was right for me or not. Today, we had a guest for dinner and she knows that I am eating only…

  • Not sure of your goals but would a diabetic exchange diet work for you in giving your portions based on the exchanges to take in at each meal? That is what I am doing and I have been quite pleased. I found counting points etc too confusing and I know that I would not continue counting points for the rest of my life. i…
  • Very interesting to read. I have also found that I must eat consistently at mealtimes or I will binge if I get too hungry when cutting back on food intake to proper portions. It would be interesting to have a followup from the two researchers on proper portions and their impact on both childhood and adult obesity.
  • Have you considered legumes? They count for both protein and carb, quite a lot of carbs especially chickpeas. I try for 45 carbs at each meal and have 30 carbs from starch usually with a fruit for the third 15 gms. If I have 1/2 cup of legumes, I can get my 7 gms of protein and 30gms of carbs so have to focus on a salad…
  • Saute veggies with rice in a stirfry adding some soy sauce and sprinkling some protein on top before serving OR simmer in a little bouillon OR shred into a tomato sauce with lots of herbs and serve over a little pasta OR shred into a lasagna layer and bake. Can you tell that I cook with veggies to give colour and flavour…
  • I had lost weight before and then over the years put it back on again. I started again in early January, 2012 but when we went away for a miniholiday to visit friends, I got derailed but back on after a few weeks. I did not want a diet in itself but more proper portion control. A friend had lost 50+ lbs on a diabetic diet…
  • I found that I was hungry when I started in early January before I joined here. For breakfast, I usually have cooked oatmeal with a tbsp of bran and wheat germ added plus fat free yogurt with fresh fruit and tea. I was really hungry by 10:30am. I suddenly realized that I could try 1/4 cup of cottage cheese and reduce the…
  • What a wonderful success to share!
  • From my efforts over the years and why I feel more confident this time, allow me to share. I have lost and regained weight a few times. I tried in January to get started again but went visiting and slipped off track. I spoke to a friend who had lost 50 lbs on the diabetic diet program at the local hospital who provided a…
