I went back to my band geek roots when I started running. Get a metronome app on your phone and stick it in your pocket, no headphones needed. I like the above recommendation to count in your head, but I found that my counting started to match pace with my feet and not the other way around (band geek problem?). Anyway,…

Nope. A guy can be a hot 10 and go to 1 in the 5 seconds it takes to light up.

24/50 miles so far. I've also been adding Barre 3 workouts before my walks and it's awesome :D

First walk of the year was awesome! Did the 4 Mile Power Walk (the one with the surges in miles 2 and 3) and feeling great now. Happy walking, everyone!

Hiii! I'm 25 and I'm from not-so-snowy-this-year Nova Scotia, via Illinois. I'm basically in the same boat as you. I'm a strange mix of red neck (e.g., my husband has no idea what it means when I tell him that someone "fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down" and the like) and prim, proper,…

Another 5 miles down with the 5-Mile Fat Burning Walk DVD :) Happy walking, everyone!

This may sound counter-intuitive, but I found that a break worked wonders when I hit my last plateau. I took two weeks off from scheduled exercise and religious calorie counting. I worked out only if the urge struck and ate what I wanted (in moderation). When I got back on the wagon after two weeks, the plateau broke.…

10/50 miles today! Sadly, too cold to walk outside in Halifax now :(

My scale's batteries recently ran out, which initially made me sad (but I am far too lazy to go out and buy a new set of those expensive flat batteries). But now that I know I can't rely on the scale, I have become more consistent with everything else and I'm *feeling* the results more than seeing them (on the tiny…

Working lots of long 12-hour shifts this month, so aiming for at least 50 miles (7 down already).

My teacher friends have been telling me that our province wants to do away with failing kids and/or holding them back a year if they're doing really poorly. So doing away with red pens sounds like small potatoes to me... Pathetic, all the same.

Rodney Yee's Yoga Burn or Power Yoga DVDs. Low impact, good for recovery, but you still get a good burn.

I think many of us (as women and as nurses) take caring for others far beyond what it needs to be and forget about ourselves and how we fit into the picture. I understand that you NEED to care for your daughter, your parents and your husband - that is an absolute given. But you also have to take time out of your day to…

- You walk down Spring Garden Road and are impressed. - You speak French or Newfie or something else other than English. - You wander the Public Gardens with your camera glued to your face (and ask the nurses on their lunch breaks to take your picture. Btw? No. Just no). - You give money to the "homeless" guy on Spring…

I add cherries (sliced in half), strawberry slices or just about any other fruit to my water. Light and tasty :)

Bread. French, sourdough, whatever - just does nothing for me.

For anyone who tries this in my area, I will totally be seeing you in the ER for exhaustion, dehydration, malnutrition, and then some... This just sounds like an all-around bad idea.

My RunKeeper and HRM are heaven and earth... I think RunKeeper assumes that certain activities elevate your heart rate X% regardless of who you are. So, for example, I took it for a walk the other day and it told me that I burned 197 calories in 20 minutes walking. The HRM said low 90s. This might be because my resting…

In my opinion, NO ONE is too fat to go to the gym!!!! Absolutely no one. Granted, there might be weight limits on the machines, but there are so many other things you can do at the gym that don't require to you to sit or stand on anything. Most people go to the gym to get healthy and they're not concerned about what you're…

First, you're awesome (in so many ways!). Second, that looks a whole lot like Citadel Hill in Halifax.
