  • Dunno. Are you drinking enough water and eating enough calories? Are you medically cleared to exercise? Open your diary.
  • I've been doing "You are your own gym" and have gotten great results. Highly recommended if you prefer working out at home. A lot of people think body weight exercises are too limiting, but I'd like to see them do a one arm pullup. (Maybe I'll get there someday) :)
  • Excellent post. I practiced karate in a competition school for many years, and while it was fun, I eventually realized that training for competition wasn't the best way to prepare for a real life situation. Sure, we learned self-defense, but we also learned point sparring, which in some ways contradicted effective self…
  • I've been working out at an increased level for months, and haven't seen as much weight loss as I had wanted. But now that I'm focused on tracking measurements, taking progress pics, and paying attention to how my fitness is improving, I don't really care. I also don't track what I eat, and I know this contributes to my…
  • I have finished the first two levels and am taking a short break. My strength has really improved though. The ladders are still killers, especially arms. I haven't had to repeat any weeks because I felt I wasn't strong enough to move on. I feel like it gets more difficult, but after the first few weeks I stopped…
  • Oh man, that sucks. Maybe you can just try to find activities that won't aggravate your spine? I'm sure obviously you've been looking already. Tai chi was excellent for me when I hurt my back - very slow and gentle but still exercise. I also got pain relief with acupuncture, but I don't know if that would help you.
  • Sorry, that's a tough situation. I have back problems, and honestly, if there was any surgery that might help or prevent the future pain I know is coming, then I might risk it. I don't think it would involve my spinal cord though... The last time I really hurt my back, it was a year before I felt normal again. If I had…
  • Why thank you. Seeing as how my sewing skills suck, how would you like an 8 foot scarf?
  •
  • I didn't take any "in progress" pictures, so now it's just a snake skin. My students killed it since they are terrified of snakes. They weren't going to eat it or skin it, just toss the carcass. I thought that was kind of wasteful, so I took it. I didn't realize it would be so much work!
  • Thanks. I've heard differently about whether to dry in the sun or in the shade. Regardless, I don't have a board that long...
  • 1) My muscles hurt. That thing was dern heavy. Not like cardio or anything, but.... ow. 2) I was considering eating it as well. I was too tired after skinning it. 3) Thanks for the link. One belt and a pair of boots coming up!
  • Yes, it wasn't the most fun thing in the world. For the record, I didn't kill it. I didn't want it killed, but it wasn't up to me, so I decided not to waste the carcass. It kind of felt like upper body strength training, maybe some core. Hmm.
  • I was totally going to title it "skinning the python," but I figured I didn't need to be too obvious....
  • Woops, tardiness... 174
  • I do this sometimes while jumping rope! But trying to combine "jumping" with "dance" is just awkward. That's not what I'm doing....
  • I'm going to bring my cat back home with me. She's spoiled rotten and totally my teddy bear. My best 3rd goal activity will probably be showing everyone my crazy looking Tanzanian cat! But so far, I went home over Christmas and spoke to a women's group about teaching. In turn, they donated supplies and gave some…
  • I hear that the duck dance builds up your elbows AND your knees, but only when done properly while cleansing.
  • Most Tanzanians have a hard time with my name. It takes them a couple months to get it right, so if I introduce myself to someone new now, and I know I probably won't see them again, I just give them my cat's name. They can pronounce that.
  • 175 down a pound :)
  • Well... you could get some of those chemistry goggles that are designed to keep fumes out... but wearing contacts works for me. :)
  • Unfortunately, right about the time I need to get up, my cat comes back from her early morning walk and decides it's time to cuddle. Who am I to argue? But once I manage to get up and move around a bit (bathroom, get cat food, etc) then I'm usually okay and somewhat awake.
  • Body weight exercises. There are a ton of them out there, and if you need any equipment, is usually just a table or a chair. Combine that with a few weights, maybe a kettlebell or medicine ball, and you have your own gym!
  • Hey! You can add me if you want. I'll be as supportive as possible. Good luck to you.
  • I'm in. I could use some small weekly challenges to keep me on my toes! Starting weight: 176 Final goal weight: 150 Goal for this challenge... we'll see. I mostly just want to keep strength training, but it would be nice to see the scale move some. Let's call it 165.
