  • Urban Active in St. Matthews.
  • There is a Fitbit User group here you can join, also. Edited to add: Not sure why the link didn't show up the first time. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1307-fitbit-users
  • It probably depends on the individual, Kess31. I didn't lose very much weight when I practiced regularly BUT I had awesome muscle tone and it was the easiest period of my life to maintain weight. I didn't fluctuate all over the place as I typically do. My husband recently completed a 30 day challenge (hot yoga every day…
  • Try adding a high quality fish oil, such as Carlson's Very Finest Fish Oil, to your smoothies. I've used both their oil and capsules--even used to chew the capsules. No fish taste or burps later on.
  • I suggest having a blood panel done and checking your levels. I ate red meat and took a quality multivitamin but STILL had iron deficiency anemia. Now I take a reacted iron supplement with ascorbic vit. c powder mixed in 8 oz water to enhance absorption.
  • I wasn't nearly as motivated by my Fitbit until I got several friends. They're all local and we knew of each other before through online photography communities. If it hadn't been for them I wouldn't have even considered participating in the Louisville Triple Crown this past March, which consisted of a 5k, 10k, and 10…
  • I've only seen the Striiv--no first-hand experience with one. The Fitbit is awesome in that it registers movement in three different directions, as opposed to only typical up-down you get with other pedometers. It also accurately registers movement even when you wear it in several different places that aren't visible, such…
  • Louisville via Collierville,TN. Born and raised in Dallas, TX.
  • Good luck with your first class! Let us know what you think.
  • No former yoga experience is necessary. The instructor has a dialogue that walks you through each posture. As a beginner, you'll be in the back row and will have the students in front of you as an example. The biggest thing to deal with will be the heat and humidity. It's not for everyone. I wrote up these tips awhile…
  • I feel your pain--mine's down to the top of my butt. I pull it back in a ponytail, twist it and pull the end through like a knot, then keep twisting it and wrap the remainder in a bun and secure with several claw clips. (Not sure what to call them.) Mine's far too long to do the typical bun when working out, and the braid…
  • That's a great deal--I'd definitely go for it! I've been to quite a few Bikram, hot yoga, and more mainstream yoga studios. The atmosphere totally depends on the owners/instructors and the other practitioners, so trial and error is the only way to figure out the best fit for you. When I lived in TN there was only one…
  • My husband recently completed a 30 Day Challenge and wore his heart rate monitor. He's 5'10 and about 180 lbs. It averaged out to about 525 calories burned BUT he only wore it during the Standing Series.
  • You're welcome. I just realized how LONG it was! :O
  • Yup, practiced it off and on (mostly off in the last several years) in three different states--I think about 10 different studios. When I practiced regularly (about 3x per week) I was in incredible shape. But then I was also 25. :D My muscles toned up very quickly. Recently my husband did a 30 day challenge--hot yoga every…
  • Oh, and OP, I'm sorry I missed the bit about not being able to afford classes. However, some places offer free classes. If there aren't any then try approaching a studio, explaining what happened, and ask if there's some sort of trade you can make with them such as cleaning, etc...
  • I'd like to preface my next bit of advice with this: I think it's absolutely disgusting that I even have to give it. :( When you DO approach the police department about this, be calm and diplomatic. (Because yeah, like it's really your responsibility after you've been victimized.) :( Say something along the lines of: "YOU…
  • I REALLY hope your comment was a case of not thinking it through before posting, which happens to us all. For some people the fact that you EXIST is enough of a "reason".
  • I'm a photographer and I've had people freak a little when they thought I'd taken their photo (I didn't) but nothing like what you experienced. PLEASE tell your neighbors! Consider keeping your dog inside with you instead of leaving him unattended outside. Yes on taking self-defense classes if possible, the bat//golf club…
  • I'm walking on the treadmill at the gym a lot right now to build up my speed and stamina for walk/jog combo in upcoming races. I'm overcoming some health issues and am not interested in becoming a runner. I like to use the elliptical for HIIT. If I stay on longer than 20 minutes my feet start to go numb.
  • It depends on what you want to track with it. Steps? Daily overall calorie burn? Most accurate activity (elliptical, spin, step climber) burn? Sleep? I started out with a Body Media armband when I began gaining weight like crazy (about 2lbs per week) for no reason that we could see. Tracking my quantity and quality of…

  • I'm standing on a stool near a reading area in the library, shelving books. A guy comes up, re-shelves his book, and says: "Do you realize that all those old guys are staring at your @ss?" Me: "Figures. But how do YOU know??" Him: "Because I was staring at it, too." Me: "My break is in 30 minutes."
  • I get feeling oddly-proportioned. I'm an hourglass missing the top half. :) Gained over 50 lbs and not a single cup size increase.
  • I certainly didn't intend to make fun of ANYBODY--in my opinion I wasn't. I was expressing (apparently poorly) my frustration with designers and brands who seem to me to be designing for a totally different demographic than what they are marketing for. But again, I now see how my post could come across that way. Peace, or…
  • I'm sorry if my post seemed as if I was bashing ANY body type. Not cool. I'm glad to hear that some people CAN wear them--many of my friends with varying body types can't. I suppose what I was trying to get across to the OP is that pinning your hopes on weighing X amount of pounds in order to wear VS clothes might result…
  • Even when I weighed 104 lbs very little in VS ever fit me. I'm barely 5'3 and curvy but with a small chest. Most of that stuff seems like it's designed for gangly 11 year old boys with couch cushions strapped onto their chest. That, and the few things that DO fit me fall apart much sooner than they should.
  • Mine goes up high and never comes down on its own. I'm glad I waited on trimming the end, otherwise I'd have major difficulties removing it! :O I haven't done any intense exercise with it in because I have endometriosis--I'm lucky if I can walk at a slow pace during my period. I've found that running warm water over it…
  • I wish we had some of these characters at my gym. They'd make a great distraction for the members who are far too interested in watching others instead of concentrating on themselves! But then maybe I'm expecting too much. I'm used to yoga studio environments where (most) people are mature and accepting of all bodies as…
  • We did the Bubba Gump New Years Eve thingy for 2011 with friends and it was pretty freaking awesome, and I'm a serious introvert. There was definitely sticker shock but I'm glad we did it. It was our fourth visit to NYC but was still the experience of a lifetime. The food was ok but plentiful. Drinks were better and also…
  • Everybody looks wonderful! I'm 5ft 3in and fairly small-framed. Even at 104 lbs (in high school and college) I always had a big butt and wide hips, although very little muscle tone. Right now I'm down to 170lbs from 175.5 lbs. My goal is 115-125 OR my healthiest look with muscle tone. I'll always be curvy and I'm cool with…
