  • YAY! One month down and I lost 6.5 pounds. :-) I upped my weekly loss to 2 lbs/wk for the upcoming month. I don't plan on keeping like that but my son is graduating from high school on May 17 and we're headed on vacation June 8 and I'd like to have lost as much as possible. I will switch my goal to maintenance for the…
  • I think it's all about the calories. I like to make pasta and I find that when I use recipe calculators, it actually has few calories than processed dried pasta. Cavatelli is particularly easy to make...you should try it sometime! I do know that some people are sensitive to wheat and this sensitivity may manifest in…
  • I'm going to throw this out there as a help but lots of people might disagree. I find coffee and tea to be huge appetite suppressants. If I'm starting to feel "snacky" I will fix myself a big cup of coffee, sweetened w/ Stevia, and instead of processed creamer I buy coconut milk creamer - it's non-dairy so it fits into…
  • This is something I'd never even considered. I've always held my kids' diets to a HIGHER nutritional standard than my own. NOW, I eat as healthily as I've had them eat their entire lives. I've always made healthy dinners....I've just quit hiding the junk that I would eat while they were in school. I would feel horrible if…
  • Avocado is amazing on sandwiches! You won't be disappointed. I like flatbreads. I do avocado, lettuce, tomato, spinach, jalapenos, black olives, bean sprouts, red onion. Sometimes w/ pepper jack or swiss cheese...sometimes no cheese. YUM

  • Extremely helpful. I'm bookmarking that one to read after I've read a ton of message board posts that make my head swim and make me stress over every bit. Thanks!
  • I like Michael Pollan's advice best. "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants." That's doable for a lifetime, imo. Counting %, g, etc isn't.
  • I would call HR of the company (unless he owns it and he is HR...lol...because he took the paying issue so personally). If a future employer asks, just state that when you started the job you found out the terms were different than you agreed to when you took the job and they weren't acceptable. That's no big deal.
  • I weigh myself on the last day of the month and that's it. I have pretty big weekly fluctuations depending on the time of the month so I found that even weekly was too discouraging for me.
  • Avocados are awesome on sandwiches and wraps....even breakfast sandwich and wraps!

  • My guess is it has to do w/ your cycle. If you've been doing this a month then maybe you're just now encountering the problem? I'm always extremely tired and shaky after exercise during my TOM. Iron or hormones or some super secret other. LOL I have no clue I just know that it is, for me.
  • Do You Wanna Dance - The Ramones - actually tons by The Ramones Blitzkreig Bop is amazing. I have a crapton of their stuff on my workout playlist 500 Miles - The Proclaimers Open Your Heart - Madonna Wanna Be Startin Something - Michael Jackson Vertigo - U2 Why Can't I Be You - The Cure
  • Death of my children. I can seriously get myself super worked up over this if I'm not careful. I always think it must get better w/ age but my son is turning 18 in a couple of months and I still get worked up!
  • the apron..... blech!
  • They're a nutritious part of a healthy eating plan if you account for the calories. If it's just about the diet...there are better options. At our house we dwell on nutrition and incorporating healthy calories into our bodies. Some people find it easier to stay away from certain foods and bananas is one of those that tend…

  • Bam! I didn't know they made cereal! I eat one of their English Muffins for breakfast most mornings. Have to check out the cereal. Thanks!

  • You made a choice and worked your butt off (literally!) to lose 112 lbs. It took you a year! It took a LOT of commitment and thought. You don't have to throw caution to the wind. Maintain that same level of commitment and thought. Continue to log food and exercise into MFP and let them calculate your maintenance level of…
  • That stinks! I'd print a report from here for the next time you go....that shows your daily intake, your exercise, and what your intake should be to lose x amount of weight. If he has truly closed his mind to the fact that you aren't completely eating your way into oblivion then he might be just not a good match for you as…
  • Nut butter helps keep your blood sugar stable overnight. It's a good choice in the evening.
  • If you're losing a lot of water at the gym that could explain the difference in consistency.
  • Bump - I love plain cottage cheese but there are a ton of great ideas in this thread!
  • My general rule of thumb is if it requires a chemist to create it then it isn't food.
  • Congrats on all the success. Especially breaking through plateaus and breaking the 200 lb mark. :-)
  • One of the things that really kicks me into gear FAST is using that food diary projection. I type in a day of what I used to eat and then complete the diary. Seeing what I'll weigh in 5 weeks, if every day were like that, puts everything in perspective really quickly. I hope you find your mojo again real soon!
  • This. It takes 10 minutes on Saturday to cut up a bunch of carrots and celery. You can go to Costco and buy hummus REALLY cheap. It's delicious, healthy, and better for you. Cheese sticks and turkey breast (nitrate free...or roast it yourself) are easy to keep on hand and throw in a lunch box. Bento boxes are super popular…
  • I understand the frustration completely. I think, what it takes, is a complete mindshift. "Thin" is not the goal. Once you're thin this will not end. This is your life. If you look at it like that...as just they way you live....then the fact that you aren't thin isn't really a factor. I don't know if this made any sense…

  • Highly processed fake food is rarely a long-term solution.
  • I want to know what kind of cookie it is that you can eat 4-6 and still be under 1200 calories eating all of the other healthy stuff?!
  • I'm only weighing once a month so I have no idea what the scales are doing this week. I do know that my clothes fit better....almost loose. I have been doing great with keeping up w/ exercise. I've been eating well but having a hard time eating enough calories, oddly enough. I did have a pretty big splurge on Sunday but I…
  • Homemade Granola. If I've got extra calories to eat up after dinner I'll grab a small serving and if I'm really feeling indulgent I'll mix in some dark chocolate and dried fruit. Not low calorie but extremely healthy when you have calories to spare. :-)
