  • I have been very successful (in my opinion) and I wouldn't say I never choose lower fat options but I rarely choose non-fat options. I drink 1% milk, buy 2% yogurt (mostly, I do like Chocolate Underground, which happens to be non-fat). I mostly buy full fat cheese and sometimes buy the reduced fat kind but never EVER…
  • I love smoothies for taste; sadly they just don't keep me full even when I make sure I'm hitting the nutrient checkbox. That's great that it works for you. Everyone should adjust their approach based on their personal preferences and needs!
  • It looks like you measured it after it was cooked. The serving sizes provided are the pre-cooked volume. Food loses water during cooking, which reduces it's volume.
  • That's incredible, congratulations! I've found this group to have a lot of solid information regarding fitness and nutrition, it is a good place to start if you are thinking about tweaking your goals. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/10118-eat-train-progress
  • If you have your calories set to 1200 I would suggest eating back your exercise. It will help you not feel so deprived. It's generally not recommended to net less than 1200 calories/day, though this will depend on your age/height/weight. You can play around with this and make adjustments every few weeks if things are not…
  • Oh man - I'm with you. A sweater quantity of tosh for an XL v a M...looking forward to that!
  • I set out my exercise clothes the night before so I don't have to dig around in the dark while husband is still asleep. And I ignore the devil on my shoulder that says I'll do it after work when I know damn well I probably won't.
  • I suspect it is lactose intolerance. You can take a lactase enzyme (like Lactaid or the generic equivelent) if you are interested in continuing to drink dairy milk. Ladtaid also makes a milk that is lactose free. I would read the label carefully, though, some version of it have carageenan in it, which can also upset the…
  • I love DMX for lifting. Also a lot of the newer stuff that is (to me) straight up garbage (Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne).
  • Has found her noobs and is no longer accepting new applicants. :) --- I would be willing to take up to two noobs to mentor. In 2014 I lost 22 pounds using MFP. At my heaviest I was around 215 and I'm currently fluttering below 170. I do a variety of activities including tennis, yoga, walking, body weight strength training,…
  • My preferences vary depending on my mood or the workout, but for that jolt during a run, I love The Bleeding (Five Finger Death Punch) or The Great Destroyer (NIN). I'm a little weird. I like hard rock/metal for runs, but that's music I listen to anyway. For lifting/strength training I like raunchy hip hop, which I don't…
  • I weighed in yesterday at 170.4, which is both awesome and ridiculous, considering the two days I totally sucked at eating/drinking last week. If I can lose half a pound in the next two weeks, I will meet my "above and beyond" goal to get below 170 (169.9) by the end of the year. That seems like a tall order considering I…
  • I agree with Smart Alec. Your calorie deficit is too large, which is why you are constantly hungry. I am one of many people who have found that a 2lb/week deficit is unsustainable. I got into cycles of sticking to it for a few weeks, falling off the wagon and staying off of it for weeks, gaining back anything I lost, and…
  • Checking in with an update...* I tweaked my intake and I've started slowly losing again, which is awesome. I'm now bouncing around between 170-171.6, so, awesome! * Tennis has tapered off as the weather has changed. Played none last week and once this week. * Still haven't gotten back into yoga but I have been doing body…
  • Congratulations! Your hard work has definitely paid off!
  • So the quarter is going pretty well. I'm doing a decent job on my "bare minimum" goals.* I've been bouncing around between 172.6 and 174, which means I'm maintaining my weight. * On average, I've been playing tennis a bit more than two days a week, but I expect that to taper as my flex league is winding down and it is…
  • As many folks have said, it depends on what your preference is and what you can tolerate. If I am doing something on the strenuous side I prefer to exercise first because I feel sick if I exercise too soon after eating. Afterwards I might have a banana or glass of chocolate milk, then get ready for work, and have my actual…
  • Great advice. Thank you for helping me see the light.
  • I use the calories given to me by MFP as the target calories I want to eat for the day. Syncing your fitbit is not a guarantee that you will get to "eat back" calories. If you set it the way I have, it will actually deduct calories if you are less active than you say you are on an average day, so even though you might have…
  • I think my first concert was when I was five or six. My parents took me to see Crystal Gayle at Kings Dominion. So that would have been around 1983 or 1984.
  • I'll repost my blog entry that I wrote for Q4 goals. So far, so good. I'm maintaining my weight, I've done yoga 2x/week so far, and I'm playing tennis about 2x/week. Q4 brings with it some interesting challenges. You have Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, all about a month apart. I don't want to set myself up for…
  • Fake it 'till you make it.
  • Another endorsement for Body Glide here. I have the same issue and didn't wear dresses and skirts for years because of it. Now I wear them all the time.
  • Thank you! It was tough, I have really come to love tennis, sucky as I may be, but it's so fun! I figure I'm not getting any younger so I should follow the directions so I don't hurt myself worse later.
  • I get it out of the jar with a butter knife and measure in grams using a food scale. I do not measure peanut butter by volume.
  • Well, the third quarter is winding down and I feel like I've done pretty well in spite of some set backs. I thought I'd give an update and see how everyone else is doing with their goals? ***Quarter Three Goals*** 1. Lose 6 pounds by September 30, about half a pound per week, bringing me down to 174.6. ***I'm close - I'm…
  • Congrats on your success so far! This is a great post for you to refer back to as you continue to work towards your goals, to remind you of what you are capable of and how good it's making you feel. I wish you the best of luck as you move forward!
  • Different people use the site in different ways. It's just as easy to avoid sending a request to those people as it is for me to decline a request. It's not up to you to decide how every user utilizes this site. Why does it bother you so much? Just don't friend those people You weren't meant for each other.
  • Tagging. This thread is hilarious. I need to finish reading this when I get home from work...
