It'll be okay-- I've been awful the past month or so, because I've put work as a priority over my health. I'm taking ownership of this choice, and it means I've gained 5 lbs and feel like hell, but it's the option that I chose and until I'm ready to prioritize health over work, I'm going to continue to make the choices…

Stevia is a plant. I have it on my porch, actually. Some of them have various chemicals added, so you have to watch for that. Trader Joe's bottle of it does not. I use it in my tea mostly. I use honey when baking.
-
I use an egg, egg white, MCT oil and stevia blend I buy online (truenutrition.com). Effectively, these are all things I'd eat anyway, so... I'm good with that. I just don't really know that I could dry eggs in my dehydrator (though I might try it out of curiosity).

The husband has idiopathic gastroparesis with IBS... multiple endoscopies, colonoscopies, and a gastric emptying test (which finally diagnosed it). He's been through the gamut with this. Definitely feel your pain on this one :( My GI doctor told me that food had nothing to do with my IBS... ugh. The husband's doctor is…

My husband was misdiagnosed for awhile before finally getting the gastroparesis diagnosis. So sorry! Crucifers and fruit skin seem to be what send him over the edge; sometimes it's fats and steak (which are hard to digest too). His gastroenterologist has been a great resource regarding food triggers, and others we just…

Husband has generally refused to try the FODMAPS (or anything that restricts his fruit intake-- and realistically, as long as he eats, I'm happy). We've been doing other elimination diets-- I used Dr. Junger's Clean Program as a good elimination basic (ignore the plug for the shakes). Nightshades are generally okay in…

That's awesome :) If they make area rugs out of that, I'm in :)

Since it's soup time, here's my favorite. It's originally from Weight Watchers, but not adding noodles is the easy way to make it paleo (and I don't really think they add anything anyway). I don't use coconut aminos, instead opting for my GF tamari, and not stressing about a tbsp. of soy (if that stresses you out, use the…

Pistachios. Walnuts. Whatever random piece of fruit I have (lots of apples, since I have an apple tree). I typically eat "brunch" between 11-3, sort of snacking between meetings (not hungry til 11ish, but usually too busy to eat an actual meal). Today was pistachios and a grilled chicken salad.
-
I use BPA free plastic boxes that I got on Woot in an insulated bag from World Market ($10 and it's HUGE so I can fit lots of random stuff in there). I also have a large collection of Pyrex in varying sizes that works better for chilis and liquidy food. None of it's cute, but it's totally functional.…

Breakfast: pistachios + sm piece dark chocolate (thanks coworker!) Lunch: spinach salad (dried cranberries, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, spinach), turkey Snack: apple + green tea Dinner: probably bacon and eggs again, or else a grilled chicken salad from somewhere (working late) but may be nothing depending on whether or…

http://fastpaleo.com/coconut-milk-coffee-creamer/ This is a delicious half and half substitute. My husband and I are both blunt (me, moreso) but ultimately she has to decide if trying something (i.e. eliminating dairy) is worth the potential gain. I didn't see a significant improvement during my initial cut of dairy, but…

For my (admittedly, not severe) eczema, dermatologists weren't really helpful-- my naturopath told me to stop eating dairy, and yes, there's a vast improvement. For another issue (name long forgotten, but something related to my dry skin), the dermatologist recommended Vitamin E oil (it helped!). Tea tree oil is a good…

Second this-- it's amazing. Especially on carrots.

My naturopath is licensed and can prescribe in the state of WA. She recommends Rx where appropriate and herbal remedies/lifestyle/food changes where appropriate. I'd take your wife to a dermatologist if it's a skin infection. For my mild eczema, my naturopath recommended that instead of topical creams, I cut out dairy,…

That's why I have my naturopath, and one of the reasons I go see my OB/GYN. They look for kinder, gentler ways to do things and balancing out meds with supplements, food and lifestyle. I use my PCP's services when I have something that seems likely to be contagious and needs antibiotics (massive sinus infection that looks…

Yeah-- I'm kind of morbid anyway, not to mention, I'm good with dying of Alzheimer's (seriously, drowning or a house fire seems way worse). I'm eating Paleo (most of the time, since I just had a delicious black bean soup for lunch) because it makes me feel better in the immediate term. Long term health is sort of a fuzzy…

Interesting-- 3/4 grandparents have it/have died of it, but none had diabetes or heart disease, and all were active until their diagnosis (which was why they had late diagnoses-- they were compensating pretty hard for awhile). Pretty sure with odds like that I'm going to die of it anyway, regardless of what I eat.
-
It all depends on the doctor-- my husband's gastroenterologist (and his med students) have been completely supportive-- anything to improve his gastroparesis, and was thrilled when the initial results looked good (note: can't fix the nausea, but at least can make some of the other symptoms a la IBS-C better). My naturopath…

Breakfast casserole (especially if you put shredded potatoes on the bottom) would be a really hearty breakfast and no one would miss the bread-- one of my coworkers did this, and she was Southern, not Paleo :P Everyone raved about it.
-
What is sweet and sour salad dressing? I've never heard of it?
-
A couple of my friends have cured their own bacon, and enjoyed the results. I've had good luck when buying from local butchers. I'm not a huge fan of goat, as I don't like stews in general.
-
My naturopath recommended DermaCo caps for help with that. I also use lotion daily on my body and face. And even though I just turned 30 and the girl at Ulta laughed at me when I asked about wrinkle creams, I will be picking up some more Dermalogica anti-aging stuff for around my eyes. Parabens be damned, I will look…

I haven't really had any issues? But I dissect my beef anyway, because fat and gristle gross me out.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/beef-jerky-recipe/index.html You don't need to use the recipe, but here's the method Alton Brown uses if you don't have a dehydrator :)

If it's just the two of you, do what I do-- cook for yourself only. It will force him to figure out how to take care of himself one way or the other if you're not taking care of him. Having the hands off approach sometimes tests my control-freak self, but it's made me a better partner because I'm not stressing about what…

We eat out more often for breakfast-- bacon, eggs, fruit, and vegetables if you put it in an omelet (we have an awesome all-local place near our house, so this is better than your average IHOP fare). You can always go for sushi and get sashimi (I don't stress too hard about the tbsp. or so of soy sauce that I ingest, nor…

Thanks! Does the egg casserole freeze well? I make frittatas pretty frequently with whatever veg/meat are lying around, but I haven't tried to freeze them, and I'm a little leery of doing so. I do fine cooking paleo from fresh stuff when I get home at a reasonable hour, it's just that freezing things doesn't always turn…

We're spending around $100/week now in groceries, which is pretty amazing. Until we get our cow portion (probably going in on it with some friends) we go to Costco and stock up on stuff. Trader Joe's is also very helpful, and I scour sale and the "used meat" (bargain) bin at the grocery store-- found 4 organic free range…

I go through periods where I cut it out (cause my skin looks better) and those where I keep it in (because cheese is awesome). I don't really drink milk anyway, except in lattes, and I think in moderation, unless you actually have issues with it, it's probably fine.
