  • Strength training, whether it be for heavy, endurance, or maintenance is important. The more muscle you have the more it needs to burn glucose for energy, this is important for diabetics because it influences insulin sensitivity. Muscle, as a rule, burns more calories than fat. Strength training improves the strength of…
  • In the long run it really doesn't matter. We get a lot of potassium from common foods we eat such as potatoes, bananas, yams, and citrus. However monitoring potassium levels do become important if you are on a low potassium diet due to kidney issues. One of the tell tale signs of renal issues is elevated potassium levels.
  • Hi Rachel. If you want you can send a friend request. :) My goal is to lose 50 pounds by graduation in June.
  • Trader Joe's is a small style type grocery store that specializes in food and items that are pretty unique. I would say probably 99% of their items are organic, dye free, GMO free. I do know their private label they strive for organic and is GMO free, and is environmentally conscious. Trader Joe's is pretty tight lipped…
  • @Drop_it_like - Because I have no clue who Bob Harper is.
  • The smug fat guy. That's my own label BTW. :D
  • Okay I didn't know Colorado was the skinniest state and now weed is legal there. Excuse me while I laugh so hard I might rupture something, hopefully not vital.
  • It is a sad story and really just irks for any hope I have of people. With that said the Canadian governemnt needs to send a message, and a strong one at that. It is my personal hope that they do an investigation of everyone who had or distributed that photo of her showing her breasts and bring down charges of possession…
  • *pulls out business and society notes* Knew I took them for a reason because last class we talked about affirmative action and the types they have. The most basic level of type affirmative action passive nondiscrimination, basically treat everyone fairly. That is something I agree with. The second type is preferential AA.…
  • Sometimes when I cook I dance in the kitchen. :) Wonder if I should count that? Naaa...lol
  • Personally if a trainer said I was fat it would either be the last day that trainer works there or the last day I am a customer at that gym. Trainers are hired by the gym to work with their customers to get fit. I do not think the gym would appreciate one of their customers complain that one of their employees calling them…
  • Was diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high triglycerides. All of these was a direct result of my high weight, with the possible exception of high triglycerides because my mom's family has it. That and having emergency ventral hernia repair that was caused by my weight. Edit: All of this before 40.
  • Glad to see that you are recovering well and that mass was removed. Hopefully it didn't do any long term damage to your organs. I am curious though about something. How does a mass like this happen?
  • Yes you should. MFP has some good general swimming that can be logged as exercise.
  • My reason is simple. I love food. I ate a lot and well didn't do any exercises. I am also a comfort eater but in actuality I love to eat regardless of the reason. In a way though my simplicity is great because I know what to do to work on the solution, eat less and exercise! The great thing that it's actually working!
  • Well I am looking for good people to add so go ahead and send a request. :)
  • I think a lot of people presume that when people work in the healthcare field they should be healthy because they work with people who are sick and/or are generally unhealthy and people think that because of what the healthcare professionals see everyday they do not want to be that way. However that can be nothing further…
  • One of my MFP peeps logs her lawn mowing. It's great though cause she burns around 1100 calories doing it (she has a big lawn). I just look at that and go damn. But then I got to thinking general landscaping you can actually burn a lot of calories standing, stooping, mowing the lawn, planting plants, tending the garden,…
  • You can add me too. I started recently so it would be great to motivate each other. :)

  • 1 cup of cooked steel cut oats 3 Links of Amylu Sugarhouse Maple Breakfast Chicken Sausage Greek Yogurt, between 1/2 and a cup, depending on the yogurt. Lately I've been eating a cup of Kirkland sig plain yogurt. Comes to 388 calories and it is a well balanced breakfast. :)
  • My dietitian recommended me morning star sausage patties telling me a lot of the meat eaters she sees say they like them. So I gave it a try and bought a small box. They were good so I bought a big box at Costco. =P Now the only question is what to do with the meat breakfast sausages sitting in the freezer.

  • You live in the northwest?
  • My dietitian says 1200 calories is too little, but she probably was taking my individual traits into consideration. She put me on a 1600 calorie diet.
  • I agree with this also, and the thing is it is not constricted to this board but I have seen it on many others. The thing is this is fundamentally a discussion board where we discuss things. To post something and saying that people shouldn't bother replying with opposing opinions you just might as well type it up on the…
  • My dad would take a can of cooked chicken breast chunks and a artichoke heart and blend them. Makes a good chicken sandwich.
  • I've had a few terrible eating days, today was one with lunch (who would of thought 12 oz of cubed roasted chicken breast would have a lot of calories). But it didn't let me down. I take it as a learning experience because since I am new with this whole dieting thing and counting calories I had to have a new relationship…
  • Of the times I have been to strip clubs I have always seen couples there, sometimes the girls are eying the dancers as much as the guys and I have even seen some couples tip. It's cool to see open-minded couples. Even though I don't have someone I wouldn't mind it at all. In fact, it might be fun to do.
  • I'm 35 and just started my diet and exercise program so it would be nice to meet people and add them to my friends who share the same weight loss goals as myself. Essentially I am doing the diet thing alone, even though my family supports me.
  • Deep fried doughnuts? What, the first time they are fried isn't good enough they have to do it a second time? :) Some people come up with the weirdest things to put in a deep fryer.
