I like the analogy. Thanks for that!

Right and I don't necessarily think that either, but it seems like the posts of these people suggest "a fear of eating too much or too little". In my eyes that constitutes an unhealthy relationship with food and tends to suggest disordered eating. I'm not saying that these people have an eating disorder. There is a…

Yes, thank you for your post. I guess my issue here is that it seems like we go from one pattern of disordered eating to another. Where is the balance?

On the days I do that I'm typically doing cardio for more that 90 minutes (or working out twice in a day). I do a lot of biking (15-20 miles) and then running (3-4 miles).

I've lost 50 lbs (using MFP, and 49 lbs before I found this site by writing down everything I eat in a journal and exercising). I think you have to realize that even though this site is great, you are still the person who determines how much you need to eat. There are days when I have a net 1600 calories, but I've eaten…

Attempts at guidance lead to excuses about why it can't be done......

Just stop eating. It's all bad for you.

Here's my problem and the reason for the original post: people post about not meeting their calories and then they want to make excuses about it. I don't really care what your reason for not hitting your calories may or may not be, but if you don't want to take the advice and don't want to do something about it....why post…

I write the date of my first run in a pair of shoes on the heel in sharpee and I will replace the shoes in 3-4 months because that's usually 300-400 miles. If I have 2 pairs of shoes in rotation, I will replace both pairs in 5-6 months. I've had a lot of issues running on bad shoes in the past, so I decided to do this on…

I thought it was my love of bacon and a sausage that made me fat. I'm glad to know that it was all those carbs. I'm going back to eating lbs of bacon each day and still lose weight...that's awesome! I really don't understand these posts. Calories make you fat when you eat too many of them. It's not about carbs vs. low…

Peanut butter is not inherently unhealthy. All natural PB is tasty.

To answer your question, no it is not cheating to me.

Best advice I was given before my first marathon - enjoy the race and don't try to beat a certain time because you want to be excited and happy that you just accomplished 26.2 miles, not disappointed that you weren't able to do it in 4 hours. You can set a time goal on the second one because they you have an actual time to…

I love this!

Bacon tastes good. There is no reason to go vegan just because you want to lose weight. I enjoy meat and still am losing weight. The vegan lifestyle by itself will not cause you to lose weight. It's still about calories in vs calories out.

Because there are tons of posts about the subject and I'm curious to know how this happens. I know for me when I'm working out and eating the right foods my body is ready to eat every 3 - 4 hours. It's something I never understood. I had a roommate in college who used to talk about how she would forget to eat....I don't…

Because bigger people burn more calories doing simple daily activities.

Well, the only way to never have plantar from running is to stop running. Just like the only way to ensure you don't get pregnant is to not have sex. That's all.

Invest in a Strassburg sock for sleeping.

Well, I suppose your experience is different from mine - doesn't make it untrue BTW. I was shut down for 6 months because of it. My sports doc said the only way to make it go away completely is to stop and rest it.

This sounds like plantar fasciitis. I developed a pretty nasty case of this and tendinitis and ended up in 12 weeks of PT. The only way to make the pain go away completely is to stop running (which I never did - so I wake up in pain every morning). There are lots of stretches on the internet that he can do BEFORE getting…

No, chocolate milk after your workouts will make you happy

Really? Bacon of course

I look at the menu beforehand. If I can't do that, then I will order things cooked without butter, without cheese, without mayo (or any other sauces that I can't calculate the total - i.e., no mayo, but ketchup is ok). Some places also have a lower calories menu that would be good to order from. You also have to keep in…

1200 calories is not enough if you are putting in long, hard workouts. You need to up your calories.

Some people think they know everything. I got into with my brother-in-law over some nachos a couple of weeks ago. He started in about you shouldn't be eating that on a diet. He didn't want to hear about a spike day or the fact that I had just spent 3 hours biking and running. I guess that's why he is fat and will never…

How strong a swimmer are you? A wetsuit helps you float a little bit, so it can help weaker swimmers feel more confident. It is not a requirement, but with water temps in the low to mid 70s I would definitely wear one. Once the water is over 78, the wetsuit is optional and I probably wouldn't wear it because I would get…
