I had this from running. I had to go t o PT for 6 weeks 2 times a week, and wear a brace called the Strassburg sock at night. This helped a little bit, but I still have pain from it all the time. My doctor said that some people get it to go away with exercises, PT, and the shots, but there are tons of people who have to…

Stop making 2 dinners. It's a waste of your time and doesn't help anyone. As far as your son goes, there are lots of ways to get active without being involved in team sports. It's also possible that he wasn't involved in the right kind of team sport. I have some friends who have their kids in rock-climbing (indoors), as…

Very thankful to be at this again. It's been a rough couple of months.

I used the Galloway method for all 6 half marathons I've done. I also have used halhigdon.com to train. There are lots of programs out there (currently I'm using the couch to marathon iphone app by Trish Blackwell and it's really good so far). A couple pieces of advice: 1. Don't increase your mileage too quickly. 2. Get…

I was a D1 rower. I love spinning! It gets my heart rate up very quickly and is low impact on your knees. I'm also running quite a bit these days, but obviously with bad knees that doesn't work. I would also try swimming. My resting heart rate is around 53 bpm, so it takes me a long time to get it to where I need it to be…

These are a great way to help with transition times. I've done it 3 times this season (typically about once a month) and my T2 times were great during my last race. It also made my legs really strong. I would recommend trying it. It definitely sucks while you are doing it, but the improvement is amazing.

Aquaphor does the same thing. I think it's a must especially if you are prone to chaffing. Stays on during the swim without a problem.

I like the 30 Day Shred. It has modifications for beginners and I don't disturb my sleeping family when I do it early in the morning. I always weigh myself first thing in the morning because you will be heavier in the afternoon after eating and drinking all day. I would keep track of everything you put into your body right…

He goes with me every time that he can. I would say on average it's about 90% of the time. There are times when he has to travel for work and he will miss a race or two.

The fat burning zone is somewhat of a myth. It's really about burning calories vs. trying to stay in the "fat burning zone". You will burn more calories from fat in the low intensity zones, but you burn more calories total doing high intensity cardio. For example, let's say you stay in the fat burning zone for your whole…

I second this. $250 is really not going to get you a very good bike. The lowest prices I've seen on a decent bike is in the $400 - $500 range. It's not like when you were a kid and you could get on any bike and ride it. You will be uncomfortable on a bike that doesn't fit or a bike that has cheap components. Spend a little…

That's funny because I saw word for word what you posted earlier on livestrong when I searched on google what you posted. [/quote] I didn't read anything on Livestrong. I happened to learn this in a holistic Nutrition class. I am certified as a Holistic Nutrition Educator, thank you very much. I teach classes in my local…
