  • i agree, and disagree. absolutely, as long as you don't have some other health issue (diabetes, hpb, etc), no food should be off limits if it fits your calories for the day. BUT-- some people only have 1200 calories to get through the day, so eating 1000 for dinner would be a very unwise decision. when this is the case,…
  • glad you're able to look on it w/ humor
  • mother 18 & 19 yo boys here... nothing to talk about, and ESPECIALLY not w/ mom! that's just about the right age, and perfectly normal. now, if he had a GIRL in there, that's a different story altogether! the only thing i would say is, if his siblings have a habit of entering unannounced, he needs to protect his privacy a…
  • what? no carbs after 6?! that may work for some people, but should not be touted as a hard and fast rule. personally, i am quite carb sensitive, and do best if i reserve my carbs for the last couple hours of the day, so that i can sleep through the spike/crash/cravings, and it's working great for me. if i followed your…
  • fish oil, CLA, b12, and a multi are your best bets. fish oil and CLA are omega 3's. CLA has also been shown to help prevent cancer. definitely a plus even if it doesn't do a thing for your weight. b12 will help the metabolism. and the multi can balance out anything you're not getting from diet. switch to actually DRINKING…
  • deaths may be rare, but you can OD on vitamins, so yes, bad things can happen.
  • body fat scales are not overly accurate, but at least give an approximation. so, for the sake of round numbers: if someone weighed 200lbs, w/ 30% BF, they would have 140lbs lean muscle mass/60lbs body fat. (200lb total- 60lb bf). i tend to lean more towards the high end on protein. i would say you could even go to 1.5g/lb…
  • this. being able to look back and see what your weaknesses are may be very beneficial in the future
  • it's a personal choice, really. have you tried wearing one? you may find it to be much more comfortable ;)
  • with diabetes, you have to be even more careful than most about what you put back into your diet. it's all about the sugar, so i would suggest taking this approach: go back to your original weight loss diet to lose the weight you've regained. then add back only one thing at a time (ie potatoes, pasta, fruits, etc). give…
  • this. there's no benefit whatsoever to drinking soda (diet or otherwise) and so many potential dangers. and i LOVE celestial seasonings!! lemon & raspberry zingers are great too! there's tummy tea for upset tummies. there's sleepytime. and the list goes on...
  • when i get those feelings, it is ALWAYS because there IS something going on. one time i was out of town and my 15yo snuck out. woke out of a dead sleep at exactly the time the police were bringing him home. we were in an remote area w/ no phone service, but found out the next morning. another time, my niece (who has down's…
  • try to stick to whole/natural foods. for instance, brown rice is a great carb. cinnamon rolls are not  w/ fats, you should focus on good fats (olive oil, nuts, fish) rather than bad (red meat, pork, etc). try to get a higher balance of protein:carbs, more fiber (from vegetables and fruit). the less processed foods you…
  • Fruit is low in calories, high in fiber, and rich in nutrients. She's already said she's eating too few calories, so I would think that adding something high in fiber and vitamins would be an incredibly beneficial way of getting those extras in.
  • what?! fruits are an excellent low calorie source of NUTRITION. you may eat low carb, but that doesn't mean fruits are bad for weight loss for everyone. and if a person were to go low carb, they should be adding more PROTEIN -- not FAT.
  • Actual milk (sorry, but you can't milk an almond) has many nutrients that cannot be found in these milk alternatives. Unless someone has a medical condition, they are far better off drinking dairy, especially if they are not over in net calories.
  • I used to do it all the time. Stopped about a year ago because i started lifting and only had so much time :( Just got back into it yesterday, and I'm glad I did. Still no time to do it every day, but will definitely be working it in 2-3x/week.

  • If you can't find it in the MFP database, try here: http://www.calorieking.com/
  • Exactly! My bigger concern for you isn't the cheat days, but what happens when you hit your goal? While you've been taking the weight off, you should also have been learning how to make balanced choices. By now you should have a pretty good idea of the calorie content of most things, so it should no longer consume you.…
  • I was going to post a question about HRMs myself. You beat me to it!
  • Exactly. Also, since most things in the database have been input by another user, they may have just over-estimated their calorie burn. For example, treadmills and other equipment estimate calorie burn, but are notorious for being 25% (or more) over actual burn. Definitely get a good HRM if you are concerned.
  • I agree. 1-2lbs a week is a healthy goal. What no one else has touched on though, is the fact that you are doing strength training 3x/week. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you may very well be losing 3lbs of FAT per week, while gaining MUSCLE. This is a double bonus, as more muscle will burn more fat! The best way to judge…
  • you can't be too bad off. you typed that w/o slurring :drinker:
  • she has lots of different dvd's. there's basic. one w/ bands. one w/ beginners pilates. one w/ kick boxing. a couple with light weights. best thing about them is that anyone can do them. even if you can't do some of the moves yet, you just walk in pace w/ the music, or even slow down if you need to. she'll tell you again &…
  • You're right. Everyone IS different. You may want to be mindful of that yourself. I've been in a deficit, not eating back exercise calories, and gaining incredible tone over the past few weeks-- and i was nowhere near obese at any time. So since I'm doing it, please explain how it is impossible?
  • This. When I stopped eating processed foods, I actually found it hard to consume ENOUGH calories, and had to force down some meals. You also get more steady energy from natural foods than you do from high sugar, processed foods. Nothing like a sugar crash to wipe you out!
  • depends on how you define "diet". if you mean "grapefruit diet" or "cabbage soup diet", then no thanks. but if you're talking about "south beach diet", well, that's another story altogether. to most people, that WOULD be a "diet", but it's actually just a balanced mix of lean protein, complex carbs, fruits, veggies, low…
  • Scrambled eggs!!! lol!
  • i drink green tea daily, but i also INCREASE my water by whatever amount of tea i drink. tea (or anything with caffeine) will make you MORE dehydrated. add some lemon or lime juice if you want some flavor in your water.
