  • Tuesday is "Taco Tuesday" at our house. Sometimes I use lettuce as the wrap...often I have a hot corn tortilla. It isn't really a cheat day, though, as it doesn't put me over my total carbs for the day (I'm following South Beach Phase2). I've read a few things here and there about "carb cycling" being good for your thyroid…
  • I had debilitating pain for 6 months once - abdominal pain. They ran every test in the book, then they started throwing around the word "cancer." I didn't have cancer, but they never could agree on what was causing the pain. And, I saw a lot of doctors. I'm sorry you're going through this. I really hope it isn't cancer and…
  • Are you talking about men feeling a need to procreate? Or, do you mean the "biological clock" in the sense that you have a limited fertility window? 'Cause, while there is some slow down in fertility for men, a man can still theoretically procreate until he dies. I definitely know some men who feel "broody". I've known…
  • Day 3 At least, it is over here in the UK. I did a lot of planks in my yoga practice today, including 2 planks that I held until I couldn't any more. No times for today - but I got my plank in.
  • I've been at 1200 since April. Last 2 weeks decided to go with the "eat more, lose more" group's calculations. So, I've been slowly creeping up to 1500, with 1680 being my goal (my goal weight maintenance calories with 0 exercise). Still losing weight, but MUCH slower than at 1200. But, I don't get cramps during exercise,…
  • I've been logging in regularly this time around (5+ days a week) since April. But, I travel a lot and don't always have internet access, so I never really rack up the high "days in a row" count. I really wish there was a second line to go with the days in a row, like "and has logged in 50 days this year" or something like…
  • The ones here in North Yorkshire that I've looked into are between 30-50 pounds per hour. One-on-one trainers are expensive.
  • Old school step aerobic videos - try The Firm or similar. Step aerobics will get your heart rate up, requires little space, and doesn't require jumping.
  • Never run through this kind of pain! Pain that is sharp and/or changes your gait, pain that is on one side of the body or centered on one point (ie, not normal, even stress load of new activity), pain that includes swelling and tightness, pain that is new or different, pain in a joint - don't run through it! I'm sure there…
  • Like most things, it depends on the context.
  • You don't know how reassuring that is to me! That is a GREAT NSV! Congrats!
  • No, definitely not normal! It could be so many things. Go see a physio, especially if you can find someone who specializes in runners or athletes. Regular GPs are not very useful in sports injuries, in my experience. Reduce activity or intensity level until you are not in pain and do that level for a few days - even if…
  • SO much info on this very thing is available online and here in MFP. In my experience, most people have fixed ideas on either side of the debate, no matter what you tell them  They are both great exercises, and do slightly different things for you. If you can't run or don't like to, walking is great exercise,…
  • Wine!! I'm learning to control myself at one glass. Not as hard as you might think, considering my love of wine. Fruit - mostly berries. Fruit smoothies. 80% dark chocolate from Green & Blacks...or a dark chocolate from Hotel Chocolate. I'm experimenting with frozen yogurt. I've got mango and coconut greek yogurt…
  • I really should save my responses to these "closed diary" threads. Why do people care whether others have open or closed diaries? It seems a bit controlling. Some reasons people don't open their diaries: *It is the Internet - you get very strange people commenting on something personal. Who wants a troll sending PMs about…
  • I'd like to think that I can stop logging my food and exercise one day. I mean, I was a healthy weight up until 6 years ago without ever using MFP! I'm trying to figure out where I went wrong with MFP and get back to healthy habits. Hmmmm...maybe once I've reached my goal and maintained for a while, I'll just commit to…
  • And...how exactly do you measure love? I'm serious about this - you can't measure something like that. People love in different ways, too. Express love in different ways. Love means different things to different people. Believe me, I've found that out the hard way. Relationships change over time and how you feel about your…
  • DAY 2 Hi everyone. I was drinking a gin & tonic and realized I hadn't done my planks yet! I think the g&t helped. So, after a G&T: Plank: 70 seconds Side Plank: 25 sec ea side.
  • I have the South Beach Diet Book and the South Beach Diet Cookbook - I really love the recipes and ideas. I use these recipes every day. I'll definitely have to check out these sites, though. Yay for new recipes!
  • Only if I hear the melodious sound of many bottles of wine or booze clink-clinking in the cart. I love carts full of wine - makes me happy. Otherwise, I hate grocery stores so much - I'm just trying to get the hell out as fast as I can. Grocery stores give me evil road rage.
  • If stress burned calories - I would have lost 65 lbs, not gained it. (well, stress and the chocolate croissant I used to medicate it with:blushing: ) Stress is terrible for the waist line.
  • I don't use artificial sweeteners anymore. Actually, I never liked the taste of them, so it wasn't that hard for me. A few tips for the usual suspects: I have one cup of coffee in the AM. I switched back to regular sugar. Then, I cut down the sugar. Now I add spice mixes to my coffee with no sugar (like pumpkin pie spice)…
  • The forearm/dolphin plank is just a variation. I think it is a good variation if the push-up style plank hurts your wrists. You can do whatever plank variation you want for the challenge. I've done both and the core work seems to be the same, but the arms are worked differently. But, everyone's different and might feel the…
  • I did Bridge to 10k right after C25k. I had similar problems, but I think I was following (or trying to) the pacing for the Bridge to 10k (if I remember correctly). In the end, I decided that going back to intervals and increasing speed or distance was too much right after the C25k, so I went back to running 30 minutes, 3…
  • I'll have to check out those youtube vids - ty. I've not found any yoga videos yet that I really love (though I haven't looked much lately). I'll share what I have - but they're probably older videos (except the last one). I have: Rodney Yee AM Yoga for your week (Gaiam)- 5 20 min sequences, each focusing on a specific…
  • "metabolic reset" - I'll have to remember that one. Pasta. I love bread, too, but pasta is so great for making easy meals. I can't find spaghetti squash here in northern UK, but I'm wondering how hard it would be to grow some! I've been thinking about reintroducing pasta once I've reached goal weight and start running…
  • 2 yoga classes today = many planks! I just don't have the energy to do a separate timed plank for the challenge. Woo-hoo - COMPLETED - a month of planks! As for June, one thread is fine by me. For June, I'm going to add side planks as well as begin to add time to my plank.
  • I really hope she isn't just making it up to manipulate your brother - that's pretty sad if she is. It is hard to watch someone mess with the people you love - been there. Your brother will have to figure this out for himself, though. I know that's not helpful to you right now. I wish I had some good advice, but I can only…
  • Sounds like you have history with this woman, but I don't know that what your describing seems impossible. Yes, it is very possible to have a missed miscarriage for several weeks in the first trimester. I don't find it odd that she called someone and asked about their symptoms of miscarriage before having a miscarriage…
  • I use the spicy version to make an awesome bloody mary, but otherwise, I think of it as junk food. But, I think of all juice as junk food (all the sugar without the pulp and fiber and skin of the fruit & usually way too processed). So, I'm kinda weird (and some may say extreme) like that about juice.
