Running will help you slim down all over. Have you tried HIIT or Insanity work outs? Those are all cardio and help you burn cals and fat. I don't like my hips at all but they seem to help. Have you ever looked at the workouts on Pinterest? They have a lot of just body weight ones that you can do at home and aren't bad on your knees. I would take a look since they are easy and you can pick which ones won't hurt your knee.
