I weigh everything at home. If you do that for a while, you get very good at estimating portion sizes, so you don't need to weigh/measure when you eat out. I also bike to work every day plus do other cardio and some weights, and on an average day I burn about 2400 calories. So you're in the right ballpark. But I would say…

Congratulations! How exciting for you! I'm a family doctor who works in a maternity clinic, so I feel qualified to answer this one. You prenatal care provider (doctor or midwife) can tell you how much you should gain in your pregnancy, depending on your starting BMI. Here in Canada, we use this calculator:…

Since this is the maintenance thread, I am at my goal weight. I'm 168cm (I think that's about 5'6") and 59kg (130 lbs). I lift weights every second day, alternating between deadlift (245 lbs) and overhead press (75 lbs). My goal has always been to be fit and strong, not skinny. I have visible abs (thanks to the deadlifting…

I think as women, we have a lot of trouble seeing ourselves as others see us. We have all these negative filters that we see ourselves through. If you are at a weight that is considered healthy for your height, you can rest assured that you probably look great. (If in doubt, reflect on this- are other people telling you…

I wear a BodyMedia armband that measures my calorie burn, and I weigh or measure pretty much everything I eat, so I think my food and exercise numbers are about as accurate as they can be. But if I eat what MFP suggests, I gain slowly but steadily. I need about a 200 calorie deficit per day to keep steady. But that's ok,…

Been using mine about a year and a half, and I find it very accurate- like you said, the calorie numbers correlate well with what my weight is doing. The only thing it doesn't seem to record accurately (and the company acknowledges this) is cycling- in underestimates calories burned from riding the bike.

I prefer to measure everything in grams or milliliters (I'm in Canada), but because I live near the US, I am familiar with their units and can enlighten you about the 'cup' thing: it's 250 mLs. (And for some reason they use it for solids, such as flour, as well as for liquids.) It's used fairly extensively in Canada as…

Yup. Juice, nuts, cheese, sugary yogurts, 'healthy' cereals like granola... I didn't join MFP planning to lose weight, but once I was aware of all the high-calorie foods I ate, I stopped eating many of them, and I have lost weight in spite of myself. Just the awareness is a very powerful thing.

I gave up silly religious rituals, like giving things up for lent :)

Any kind of bread, with a thick layer of salted butter. (But to the person above who said breadsticks with pizza sauce- thanks a lot. Now I want that too!)

I'm a doctor, and I can tell you that raw milk is a really bad idea. Pasteurization was invented for a reason- because there are a lot of harmful bacteria that can live in raw milk. I grew up on a farm and drank raw milk until I left home, and I still think it's a bad idea. Personally I find milk really fills me up, so I…

We tried one recipe with PB2 and they weren't very good- I think they do need some fat to have a nice texture and taste good. Have been meaning to try again with PB2 and a bit of added butter. Just bought some chocolate PB2 to try, so that might be even better!

Christmas Day- ate everything I wanted and didn't log anything. Did a quick add of 4000 calories which was probably an overestimate but it doesn't matter- it was just one day. This is the only day of the year I will do this. I don't expect one day to make any difference whatsoever to my weight. (But I don't do this the…

I couldn't disagree more with the 'carry a gun' lady above. The more guns are around, the more gun-related tragedies we will have. A gun won't protect you from any of the things that are most likely to kill you, but having one around will endanger you and your family members. Try exercise, it's a great way to help deal…

You look great!

I don't know much about the fitbit, but it doesn't sound like it's working for you. I have been amazed at the accuracy of my bodymedia armband. It's easy to be accurate about food if you weight and measure things, but I felt like my exercise was always an estimate at best. The armband lets you be really accurate about that…

Wow- you look like a different person! Congrats!

Lots of people here have stated the truth- many women have no problem dating fat guys. In fact, if I look around at couples on the street, there are a lot more women with fat men, than men with fat women. I personally am slim and have had serious relationships with two fat guys and two slim guys. It makes me wonder why you…

Very critical. If there isn't a randomized controlled trial (or at least a very large study published in a peer-reviewed medical journal) I am skeptical.

Fabulous! Keep up the active lifestyle and with continued hard work, you will keep it off forever. You look great!

You could try de-loading or taking a week off. The other thing to look at is if you're lifting too frequently. I try to do my lifts on days when I haven't done a ton of cardio, and sometimes this means I end up lifting just 2 days after my previous weight lifting session. It's always a lot harder on those days then if I…

I love it when I see people out exercising, and I especially love it if they are overweight or look unfit- it's so good to see people taking charge of their situation and doing something to get healthier. Good for you! There is no excuse for this kind of rudeness, but at least you can take comfort in knowing that as you…

But my kid knows that the plural of 'lego' is 'lego'. (Well actually, I don't have a kid, but if I did he would know that.)
-
I'm opposed to both. Pick something sustainable and moderate, people.

Nope. Looks are all a woman needs to get a guy, but looks are almost irrelevant when women look for a man. If a man is smart, responsible, funny, kind etc that's all he needs. Good looks would just be a bonus!
-
Yeah, but in my experience a lot of those people who 'have no time to exercise' do have time to watch TV, read celebrity magazines, and surf the 'net. It's all about priorities. Replace your TV time with exercise time, and for most people that'll be several hours a week right there.
-
I agree with those who see no issue with this man's comment. Some people care about looks. If that's what's important to him, it's his choice. I would point out that men of a similar age also tend to 'let themselves go'. Nearly all of the men I know who are 35+ have a belly, and many have a double chin too. In fact, I…

I am losing, and I eat anything I want, but thanks to My Fitness Pal I just know when I've hit my calorie limit and it's time to stop eating for the day. I haven't eliminated any food groups or even any individual foods. (I rarely eat deep-fried things because they are so high in calories that it means I don't get to eat…

height 168 cm (I think that's about 5'6") weight 62.1 kg (my calculator says that's 137 lbs) waist 75 cm (29") hips 92 cm (36") chest 88 cm (34") body fat percentage 21% Obviously all of these will vary a lot based on your build- for instance, if you have a bigger chest you will have higher body fat percentage. And some…

Depends what you mean by 'worth it'. A scientific study done a couple of years ago showed that people who eat organic foods do not get any health benefits from doing so. However, we all benefit from reduced levels of cancer-causing pesticides in our surroundings. So I think buying organic is worth it, if you can afford it-…
