  • Start now, and do squats!
  • 5 days a week. Two days are heavy weight lifting using compound exercises (squat, press, bench press and deadlift), and I do three one-hour Muay Thai classes. If I have the time every now and then I'll throw in an extra Muay Thai session.
  • Very interesting article! I don't even come close to 4000. I train about 5 times a week, a combination of weight lifting and Muay Thai. That probably adds up to about 3000 calories a week. I couldn't really imagine doing a significant amount more than that without it really cutting into my life time-wise, not to mention…
  • I basically went from the couch to CrossFit. It was a tough transition obviously but the workouts were able to be modified. I did ring rows instead of pull ups, even had a sand bag put on my feet because I couldn't do more than 20 push ups. I went 2-3 times a week for about 6 months, and since then have stopped and moved…
  • I do CrossFit 3-4 times a week, which takes between 25-40 minutes. Sometimes I go for a 3-5 mile run once a week, too. One of the things I like best about CrossFit is that it combines strength and cardio in one workout. I don't like spending a lot of time in the gym.
  • I'm curious about this topic as well. I don't really care if I have a six pack but I'd like to lose my "love handles." I'm currently about 16% body fat and do CrossFit three times a week supplemented by one or two 3-4 mile runs a week. I also live in New York City so I walk for at least 1/2 hour every day just as part of…
  • I second that! Good to hear another person mention God. We can love ourselves despite imperfections, just like we love other people even though they're imperfect. Really, though, thinking too much about whether we love ourselves or not is a step on the road to narcissism. Whether we have positive opinions or negative, it's…
  • It's a no for me.
  • I bring a container of lentils and brown rice, and put Cholula hot sauce on it. It's a complete protein and very high in fiber. You could use other beans too. I like lentils because they taste good and they're easy to prepare. I usually add a piece of fruit or some Greek yogurt. I don't really care much if I eat the same…
  • That's nothing. Once at a gym I used to go to, they gave out free pizza!

  • Lent. I decided I should start taking better care of my body because St. Paul wrote that it's the temple of the Holy Spirit, and I certainly wasn't treating it as such. Among other things I quit smoking and started eating better and doing cross fit because I got a Groupon for it. Many positive mental benefits ensued - more…
  • As far as water goes, I haven't found a solution to that problem yet, and I still don't drink enough water. The food is easy to get in. I try to I come in early and have some breakfast, have a small lunch, and then a snack after my last class at 3:00. I bring food that I can eat quickly and doesn't require preparation. My…
  • Well I've been at it for a little over a month now. I switched from Livestrong to this site. I started at 178 and now I'm at 168.5. I'd been going pretty steady at about 1-2 pounds a week and then last week was a bit of an anomaly. I guess I'll just relax and see how things go long term before I start worrying. Worrying is…
  • Thank you! I have forwarded this to my friend who goes to hour-long spinning classes and doesn't eat the calories burned. It's a very good explanation so hopefully it will help her out. I ALWAYS eat back my exercise calories, btw - why would I every turn down extra food? :)
  • They may not be as healthy as regular, whole foods, but I have Atkins daybreak bars, which are certainly higher in fiber and protein and have less sugar than regular sweets. Fruit is good too - a nice fruit salad with lots of melon is good, and if you combine it with a lean protein like a glass of skim milk it will help…
