  • I usually end up eating over my sugar as well, but I don't eat any refined sugars / processed food. It's all from the fruits I'm eating and natural fruit in sugar is better for you considering all the other nutrients / health benefits (fiber etc) that is found in fruit. I'm now trying to "eat clean" so 80-90% is all…

  • Please, please, please, if you do one thing on this MFP journey ... buy yourself a scale. It will make your life so much easier!!! Weigh your food and you'll understand what 15 chips (or 30 grams or whatever the case may be) means.
  • I bought a leather jacket 2 years ago on the advice of 2 friends, but I didn't feel 100% comfortable in it as you could see my gut when I tried to zip it up. I thought, no biggie, I can lose 10 lbs and it will fit. The 10 pounds never came. Now the jacket did zip up (and I use the term "zip" loosely as I could barely…
  • Excellent one! I'm adding this to my inspirational list!
  • You're welcome ... good luck! Also ... if you like Pork - that's a good protein source too -- just make sure you use a "loin" I have a really easy recipe for pork loin that you just toss in a ziplock bag with some olive oil and fresh rosemary (and salt & pepper to taste) - let it marinate in the fridge for at least 30…
  • Yum!! Thanks for this. I'm making a "clean eating" version of Shrimp Kung Pao (broccoli slaw instead of noodles) and Quinoa for supper tonight. I'm always looking for easy but tasty shrimp recipes and I'll definitely be making this one too :)
  • For snacks - Greek Yogurt is great for protein. Do you like Tuna? Also high in protein. Salmon and Chicken -- I know you said you're not one for cooking, but they are really easy recipes for salmon and chicken that are fast and taste great. Also eggs .. high in protein, just watch cholesterol, but eggs and cheese are good…
  • "You are so much stronger than you think" "The voice in your head that says you can't do this is a liar" "Once on the lips, forever on the hips" Oh ... and how could I forget, when I'm at the gym ... "sweat is just your fat crying"
  • Drink water!! It really is important, for health of the body (functions), it makes you feel full, and we need to be hydrated. If you don't like water - trying the sparkling beverages (watch though because some have lots of sodium, but you can get 0 calorie, sugar-free ones and that's better than pop.) You can tell if…
  • Wow, what an inspiration you are. Thank You for sharing your story and putting things in perspective for people like me who say "I can't" "I'm too tired to exercise" I'm not good enough" etc., etc., etc. I hope you know how amazing you are .... you're a fighter and such an inspiration!
  • Officially and for tracking here on MFP, I weigh myself every Monday morning, 1st thing when I wake up, but I do weigh myself a few other times during the week (random.) I'll check my weight on the scale at the gym too - it's 5 lbs less (but I use my home digital scale for MFP.) I'm terribly obsessed with "THE NUMBER" and…
  • Goals: - We have an alumni golf tournament at work July 6th - goal is to be down 20 lbs (15 to go in 7 weeks) - We start training camp (I work for a hockey team) at the end of August so I hope to be down 30 lbs by then (10 more after the golf) **(our players have be in shape for the new season, so should I !!)** Other…
  • Replacing mayo with low fat Greek Yogurt is a great option. I use this in place of mayo in alot of recipes.
  • I know this feeling all too well. I admit ... I'm a SLAVE TO THE SCALE ... and IT'S WRONG! After 7 weeks, I'm only down 5 lbs - to me that's pretty insignificant, but I've lost inches. I haven't taken my measurements again yet, but my face is thinner and my mom says she's noticing my body change so the inches have to be…
  • For me - and this is only for me - I don't like to eat alot before working out Of course I hydrate like mad before during and after with lots of water, but I'll also have some protein/carbs before hand. On my cardio/interval training days and if it's an early morning workout, I'll have some oatmeal, otherwise it's usually…
  • For me - and this is only for me - I don't like to eat alot before working out. I make sure to drink lots of water before (and during) but also will have some protein/carbs before hand. If it's an early morning workout, I'll have some oatmeal, otherwise it's usually just some fruit (ie: banana, grapes, apple) There's…
  • I'm the same way. I was so upset watching the scale and then realized it's was because of my cycle. I gain about 2 pounds and then when I weigh myself the following week (I weigh myself each Monday) I'm down those 2 pounds and a bit more because I continue my workouts. Don't let it get you down, it all balances itself out,…
  • I'm obsessed with watching my sodium. I watch everything and I don't put any added salt on anything. I try and keep my sodium around 1500 mg / day but there are times when I do go up to 2,000. As for sugar, for me it's an on-going struggle. I have a hard time with it, but I've just come to accept that sometimes I'll go…
  • I don't have a big meal but I have a little something to eat before I workout - even if it's a piece of fruit or some protein. Definitely have protein afterwards (cheese or I find a banana is good, even 1/2 a Larabar) I usually hit the gym after work (4:30 - 5:00) so my afternoon snack is usually Greek Yogurt which has…
  • Once again, thanks to everyone for their suggestions on interval training. Last night at the gym, I had my first "real" go after the discussion on here and frankly, I'm not even sure how I'm walking today  I did my intervals on the elliptical and O....M....G, did that kill - in a good way. You guys were right, great…
  • Like many others on here, I LOVE Starbucks ... in fact, I'm a Starbucks-aholic and I've really had to curb my habit, but it's hard. Also like many others, I go for the TALL SKINNY VANILLA LATTE - 90 calories and I get my fix. I was a 2 a day Starbucks girl and now it's more like a treat for me - 1 a day and not every day.…
  • Agree 100% with the tuna option. It's great, low cal and super tasty and I find it fills me up almost better than anything else at lunchtime. You can also add some veggies to it and mix it up for a little salad or toss it on a plate of greens yourself. Yumm. Also, Greek Yogurt is very filling for an afternoon snack, or…
  • Will do!
  • nick1109 - thank you very much. My diet is pretty good - nothing processed, veggies, fruit, protein, fiber and that was a big challenge for me for many years. I quit drinking pop about 6 years ago and drink lots of water. I've had positive response and advice to interval training and I'm going to try it - what do I have to…
  • Thanks again for all your comments and advice! You've all given me some great stuff and I'm looking forward to my 1st real interval butt kicking. I think is the kickstart I need. I'll update you on how it goes!
  • Another Canadian right here in Southern Alberta
  • Hey there! Part of me doesn't think I should comment since I'm trying to work off my layers covering the abs I know I have somewhere! I did Weight Watchers a few years ago and dropped 50 lbs and I was stunned at my portions. I started measuring and weighing my food and while it can be a bit of a pain, you really get to…
  • Thanks Nick1109 and Tubby2Toned - that's great advice from both of you. Looks like the rowing machine and elliptical and I are going to become good friends!! I really appreciate your insight and look forward to working this into my exercise plan. Just like I try not to worry about the # on the scale (which is hard compared…
  • Thank you for that JNick77 - I'll definitely try that and see how it goes. I'm guessing doing speed intervals on the elliptical is better than the treadmill because your not just working your lower body. Good Luck Kennkaru - let me know how it goes for you too!!
  • I echo the sentiments of everyone else - you've taken the most important step in joining and being ready to do something. We're all here to support you along this long and tough road. Baby steps and you'll get there!
