Protein. Healthy fats. When I eat carbs I crave more carbs. It will take you a few days to wean yourself off a high carb diet, but you will feel so much better! Think of it this way: Carbs are just sugar. Sugar is literally addicting.

What an awesome trip!! Sounds like it was amazing. In London I'd go for fish & chips, curry, and scones with clotted cream & marmalade. Of course, that's if I had any calories left after the beer! And did you seriously resist the Irish breakfast in Dublin? You are a much stronger person than me, sir. ;)

FTW!!!!!

Well you did go to Mexico... maybe she caught a stomach bug? ;) How was your trip BTW?

I suggest that you record everything you're eating to see how many calories you're actually taking in. That looks like a lot of fruit to me -- but YMMV.

A good beat down? Seriously? Is this Jerry Springer? You can't reason with drunk people. Ignoring is best. I would not lower myself to the level of an angry drunk by participating. I would ignore and then explain to my kids, privately, why her behavior is inappropriate and why we should not take it to heart. Additionally,…

Honestly, when you reduce the sugar in your diet (including "fake" sugars), you will begin to taste the real sweetness in foods. Adding in fake sugar isn't healthy or a viable long-term solution. When I cut out sugar I was able to eat Greek yogurt plain and have it taste sweet to me. :)

Daily. It keeps me focused.

Most people I've talked to who try to follow the Paleo/Primal diet eat about 25% Carbs, 25% Protein, and 50% fat. Is there a reason you want to decrease the fat to that particular percentage? I stay within my calorie goals, but other than that I never try to decrease fat.

At first, I went cold turkey with all refined/added sugar, and kept naturally occurring sugar (fruit) to a minimum. The biggest changes for me were eliminating the sugar in my morning coffee, and the sugar in my 3 PM coffee. I felt like I had the flu for about 3 days! That's when I realized that my body was truly addicted…

This.

It's perfectly fine. The idea that we need to eat frequently or before an arbitrary time is not borne out by science. Listen to YOUR body and do what's best for you. I (intentionally) never eat before noon, oftentimes not before 2 PM. I usually get all of my calories in two meals. Works for me. :D

bumping this!

Mmmm Bop. ...did I just say that out loud???

Jimmy John's will wrap your sub in lettuce instead of a bun. Maybe Baja Fresh, if you have one nearby? They have a lot of choices.

The pre-set macros on MFP are not at all what you should be aiming towards. You really want to go into the settings and change all those to reflect healthier goals. I agree that 1g of protein/lb of lean body weight is ideal --it's really unlikely that you're consuming an unhealthy amount of protein.

Do they have a menu online? Your best bet is to find out the calories in everything and then plan your meal in advance. If it's not online you can guess using other pizza restaurants, etc. If I don't plan I'm almost guaranteed to go over. What I would do - eat TONS of veggies, no pasta, eat some pizza (but cut off the…

I suggest reading up on the Paleo/Primal diet - tons of great info there for gluten-free life (Mark's Daily Apple is a good place to start). My DD has celiac, so here's a rundown of what we all eat: Eggs! Lots of eggs. :) Veggies Meat Full-fat organic yogurt (the higher the fat content the lower the carbs), sometimes with…

Homemade mayo is awesomeness, has lots of calories, & good for you (if you use good ingredients).
-
That sounds awesome! And with all the calories you save on the bun you could almost have another one. :D

Even on Paleo, there's nothing wrong with an occasional potato if you don't have issues with nightshades. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/potatoes-healthy/#axzz1xWa61ZCl

I've been putting coconut oil in my coffee for a few years now. Awesome stuff! Supposed to help with brain fog. ;) I never thought about adding butter, will do that next!
-
Amen. And the higher the fat content of the cheese, the lower the carbs. I have never restricted my fat or protein intake, only carbs (not counting those from veggies). Lost weight incredibly easily and never felt hungry once.
-
You can also make it yourself quite easily using dried shredded coconut (the unsweetened kind). Recipes are all over online. I buy it off of Amazon, too... Roland Organic.

Not true for everyone. Definitely not true for me. I follow IF (intermittent fasting) every day so that my first meal is no earlier than 12:30. Works great for me, no energy issues. Occasionally if I feel hungry at breakfast (which is rare) I will eat a high-protein breakfast (NO carbs except from veggies).

No I don't have planned cheat days, because this is a lifestyle for me and not a "diet" IYKWIM. Having a cheat day means the diet is unpleasant and needs to be escaped from occasionally. I love how I eat (mostly Primal)-- I don't ever feel like I'm missing out. Life throws enough "cheat days" at me anyway (restaurant…

You'll have to tell us where you're headed in Europe! As for Mexico -- it's pretty easy, actually. Skip the tortillas (or just have half of one with your meal) and definitely skip the tortilla chips since they'll undoubtedly be made with GMO corn. Eat lots of amazingly delicious meats and seafood and veggies. Salsa &…

If you're a hunter, wild boar and wild pigs are in destructively huge supply in many areas. Free-range organic pork, y'all!

LOL!! Vioxx was FDA-approved, too.

2nd the Zanfel, although it really only helps very much if you use it immediately after exposure. What helped my husband the most were really, REALLY hot showers. He said the effects lasted for hours... and he has very severe reactions to poison ivy. Also note that the rash will show up over several days -- anywhere that…
