  • This (also fantastic if you hike). I have the Garmin 210 Forerunner and love it as it has GPS tracking. The watch part can be worn as a normal sports watch, it can track your HR with the belt during any activity, you can use it with the foot pod if your running/walking inside (ie:treadmill) and it will give you stats on…

  • I wanted that, but my genetics said I only had 2 options: 1. Have arms with skin and some fat going downwards with the effects of gravity as I continue to get older OR 2. Have arms with muscle that can be seen (nothing huge) but that defy the laws of gravity. I picked #2 and made my peace with it.

  • Welcome! Wow, 3 knee surgeries....can't be easy, but your picture of the tire jump is quite amazing! Fell free to add me. I have about 5-10pounds to go, but really, my goal is 19.5%BF and I'm at 20.6%...but the closer I get, the tougher it is!

  • Well, according to my doctor, I have "big bones". This has nothing to do how fat or skinny I am, it just basically means it would take more effort to brake one (so I see it as a positive). I am also large framed, which again, has nothing to do with fat. It's just that I will never be considered "petite" however thin I get,…
  • Where do I start? :) - Not wiping down equipment after use (there are 6 "cleaning stations" people, use them!) - Not re-racking your weights after you are done (and when I say "done" it's not done your entire workout, it's done using them) - Talking loudly on the phone while working out (is the conversation that important…
  • Since I seemed to be close in height (I'm 5'9 3/4'') and that I have "big bones" (not only is this confirmed by my doctor, but since I have the shape of a linebacker, it's pretty hard to miss), I thought I'd just give you my stats (although every woman is different, I sometimes like to get a ballpark when it comes to…
  • Could not have said it better myself.... :)

  • I use Promasil whey protein powder : 90cal & 20mg protein per scoop. I have 2 scoops with water after my workouts. Vanilla tastes good to me!
  • Same here. I'm a woman and I aim for 145-150gm
  • Pedometers are really easy to use and not expensive. All you need to do when you first get it is to measure your "normal" step, put it on your belt and go. You could then log your day under "walking" using the calories shown on the pedometer. That would be my way, but maybe someone has a better suggestion...
  • Water is definitely the way to go and make sure you drink enough. MFP suggest 9 cups: go for 9 or more always. As for what to look for in labels, my big ones are: Calories Carbohydrates Sodium Protein Fiber These are also the ones I picked to track on MFP. A good way to gage is that every label will also show the…
  • For me it took a good 4 weeks of having to convince myself to get of my butt and do it...and then it became part of my routine and now, I look forward to it. Happy it's working for you!!
  • I select "Strength Training" under cardio and just take what MFP suggests as I'm not looking for perfection since it's so little (I wear a HRM for cardio, though). For example, a 20min session comes up at 71cal, and if I consider the effort I put in but also the rest between sets (although I may be doing sit-ups or a plank…
  • I bought The New Rules of Lifting for Women (book) after reading many post about some ladies recommending it. It explains some weight lifting exercises, but also cover nutrition, etc. Other option is if you have a gym membership, you could hire a personal trainer just for one session to get a few tips, practice proper form…
  • If your using the net calorie goal on MFP, it already considers a deficit to allow for weight loss based on the settings you entered in your profile, so yes, you should eat back those workout calories to make sure that deficit it not too big (you should not "feel hungry"). MFP actually had me at 1200cal net and in the past…
  • I'm a woman and I won't try to speak for all men, but just the many things I've observed from the men I've worked with over the last 12 years in 2 companies (to give you an idea, on the 300 people that were at our last North-American meeting, 12 were women). Not all cheat, but many more than we think do (FYI, for the…
  • I so totally rock today... Because I ignored the little voice in my head that said I could not do it and that I was crazy....and I dead-lifted that 135lbs sucker, for a nice set of 8 reps in perfect form.
  • I dead-lifted 135lbs today - a full set (I weigh 155lbs). This from the girl who had never done any type of weight training before Jan 2012. Yep, that's my NSV for today!

  • That's great about your son!! I'm sure it varies per Country and even region, but I also taught swimming (Red Cross) and the RLSS courses (to become a lifeguard...at least in Canada). The "always swim with a buddy" would start at level "red" back then which was also the time they would learn crawl (7-8years old on…
  • It's not because you can do it that it's the safest. I was a beach lifeguard and yes, due to what I have seen, I would suggest against it...even in a lake (I still cross the lake at our cottage every Summer and someone follows me in a boat just to be sure or I drag my old torpedo). I'm the girl that jumped out of an…
  • You make a good point. When it comes to jeans, cut will make a huge difference in size. As an example, I can't tell you what size I'd be in a skinny jean because I have never managed to get any past mid thigh (shape of a linebacker and legs of a swimmer...I think my parents were drunk during conception!lol).
  • I work with men (automotive aftermarket) and most of the time, I'm traveling. I think it's sweet to get flowers at work for those in an office setting (with at least some other women), but in my case, I'd get more grief from it "from the boys" than anything else. However, the guy that can get the flower delivery service to…
  • Not a fan... Actually not a big fan of facial hair period. A day (or 2-3 day) old beard can be hot. One of my old boyfriends had to shave off his goatee because I have really sensitive skin and after even what would be considered a short makeout session, my lips and surrounding skin on my face would be bright red and…

  • This is me as well. I would add that "morals" are probably what is important to me to have in common with my my boyfriend. As for the rest, I enjoy a good discussion wit different points of view...as long as it's a discussion, not an argument where someone has to be wrong.
  • I was 2 weeks ago where you are today. I was 100% against using powders because I would read the ingredients (and sometimes the 2 paragraph warnings!) of some that people at my gym were using and I thought it was not for me. On the other hand, it seemed like I'd have to eat every minute of the day to even reach my protein…
  • I've been working with a personal trainer since Dec 2011. The first one I had (2-3 sessions), I did not really like (our personalities and styles did not mix), so I switched. In early January, I hit the jackpot of personal trainers for me. I look forward to the sessions as he makes me work hard enough that sometimes I…
  • Me too. But at the same time, I feel a bit bad for him...and then I look at the picture again and giggle some more.
