  • You should definitely talk to the produce manager at your store. The veggies at mine are from within a 250mile radius, and anything imported you can always check the label to see if it's grown organically or GMOs (a 5digit PLU code starting with 8 is gmo, a 5digit code starting with a 9 means organic. So if a banana has a…
  • This sounds awesome! Thank you
  • This is pretty much exactly me. I also get to write the technical manuals when we launch new software (woo hoo :grumble: ) and write up the proposals when we need to obtain a new piece of software. Darn my excellent communication skills lol Here in the next couple years I'll probably move into a product support position…
  • Red miso is strong and intense, white is the mellow miso that we know in most miso soups. Wakame is the seaweed in miso soup. Do not do kombu in miso soup! I tried it once and it's a fail. I don't believe it's meant to be eaten as it's tough and kinda slimy, but it's wonderful to flavor broths with.
  • I try to keep carbs around or below 50 since I have weight to lose, aim for 100g protein at least, then fill the rest with fat.
  • You, and anyone else, can add me. I'm not tracking right now because I'm on a whole 30, but should be back to logging in Feb (if I don't do another whole30 round that is)
  • If I want a buttery taste, I'll reach for the ghee. I do eggs in it mostly, but used it for the mushroom soup I made the other night because I felt like olive oil would overpower the taste. If I'm pan cooking meat, sometimes I'll mix ghee with another oil or bacon grease depending on my mood. I prefer bacon grease over all…
  • You look awesome! I started at 298 and my first big goal is 180 so you're a total inspiration for me!
  • I'm not a big Olive Garden fan and don't go often so I'm not sure if they even have this anymore, but I've ordered the parmesan crusted tilapia and asked them to do just the parm and no panko breadcrumbs . It was never a problem to order it that way and it was pretty tasty.
  • *gag* My husband loves margarine and I won't go near it. I'm always telling him he's gonna die from that crap and I'm right it seems lol. Yummm...plastic goodness!
  • Fresh stuff? Your veggies in the produce section at the grocery store have stuff added to them? I buy my veggies from the plain grocery store, Hispanic markets, small markets like sprouts or fresh & easy, the farmers market.. I'm not overly concerned with buying all my veggies organic or anything so I don't spend much…
  • I'm on my second and this one does seem easier. I tracked last time though and lost about 3lbs all month, I'm not tracking this time and have lost 5.4lbs the first week. Even though we're not supposed to weigh, I'm going to once a week to make sure I'm still on track. Not logging my foods is kinda freeing haha
  • B: leftover london broil and a small avocado L: zucchini noodles, homemade meat sauce with olives, green peppers and mushrooms D: ham with zucchini and summer squash sauteed with onions, coleslaw Snack: a few blackberries
  • Yay! They really are catching on. My doc suggested I give up grains to see if it helped with my migraines and it did. So he said I'm not celiac, but gluten sensitive. It's nice to hear that grains don't "have to be" a foundation of a healthy diet from a doctor who previously said they were very important to health
  • Of course there are other options than just adding oil, it's called an example :indifferent: Avocado is a great option too, as are nuts and of course, butter. All are calorie dense with good, healthy fats
  • B: 3eggs (only ate approx 2 of them though) with ground turkey and salsa verde, coffee L: paleo cream of mushroom soup ( I used 2 of those Styrofoam little boxes of mushrooms, one of white button mushrooms and one of baby bellas. I started with about 1.5 sliced leeks in 2tbsp ghee, cooked until soft and added the shrooms.…
  • Fats don't have carbs and take a huge chunk out of cals. For example, a tbsp of olive oil is 100 or so calories. I cook meats in oil when I pan-cook them, I marinade in oil and spices and then grill, roast veggies in oil, use oil based salad dressing, etc.
  • Nom nom paleo has great ideas. I don't have kids but I used that post to help me with my own lunches. I like to do the meat and cheese rollups, or chicken strip dipped in something (which totally works cold), fruit salad is always fun. I also do leftovers and will bring soups in my insulated lunchbot. You do have to let it…
  • I'dhave them ditch the nuts for now , I use nuts as a condiment rather than a main part of a meal or snack even. I always make sure to match my nuts or nut butters with a veggie or fruit, and make sure I'm eating twice or 3x the amount of fruit/veggie to nuts. As mentioned, a probiotic might be a good idea as well, and if…
  • That IS weird haha! I've just been craving almond butter. I've mostly held off but I did have some almond butter on celery last night
  • I saw that too! Gotta love some mainstream proof we aren't all wackos with high cholesterol lol Butter turns straight to body fat eh? Well if it's on the internet, it has to be true  I love when my "conventional" dieting friends question my butter use. My asking them if they can name the ingredients in margarine…
  • I use one called Only Paleo that does exactly that. I use it on Android but I'm pretty sure I saw they have an iphone version
  • That does sound pretty good.. Thank you!
  • Jerky! Lol I love apple chips. Thin slice apples (I like green best), toss with some lemon juice and sprinkle with cinnamon, dehydrate to your preferred doneness
  • It depends: are you doing a whole 30 or are you just trying to transition to paleo/primal? If you're aiming for a strict whole 30, you need to cut that stuff out. If you're trying to transition and aren't concerned with being 100% at this time, you can decide whether it's worth it to you to keep using this stuff. After not…
  • I feel the same, and I try avoid any possible head betting by not really talking about paleo/primal with anyone but this board and the friends on it. My sister and brother and their respective SO's know I'm eating this way (in fact, my brother in law just became a cop and has started eating primal to become fitter), and…
  • I do mine in a dehydrator and it's always a big hit thin sliced top round, visible fat cut off (this marinade will do up to around 5lbs of the thin sliced beef) 1 can chipotle chilies in adobo 1tbsp honey or molasses (or to taste) 2tbsp Worcestershire sauce (check ingredients for non-legal things, or make your own) about 4…
  • It was something farms organic....lol that's all I remember! I'm stopping at the store though after work and if they have it, I'll let you know the whole name. I remember it being really peppery which was fine with me, but it had a nice smoked taste and I didn't miss the sugar from the cure at all. It really made me wish…
  • Booze. It was hard for me to not have any wine (I'm a wine club member at a local winery and they give free tastings, so that was hard to resist). I did have to hunt high and low for sugar free bacon but once I found it, I stocked up. I hope I can find it again this time around
