I am trying to improve my 5K time. There is a convenient loop around my neighborhood that is exactly 5K and only has two slight inclines, so it is easy for me to practice. My last shot at it took me 38m:22s. I don't know if I will ever get fast enough to race in a 5K. I know I will enter and complete one, just to say "I…

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! To answer your question, I am not sure! :/ I started losing weight over a year ago and just became more active as I went. First was bicycling, I did that regularly and pushed hard until I got up to 20+ mile rides and being able to maintain over 15mph. I started hiking a 5k up and down…

Swimming is definitely my concern. I am comfortable in the water, but have never swam that far. I need to find somewhere to train. My plan is to start with laps in a pool, and then transition to open water the three weeks prior to the race. I live a block from a private lake, but the water temperature is about 40 degrees…

Sadly that before picture was not our heaviest. That photo was on vacation, a trip that we "slimmed down" for! :/ Our heaviest weight put us at 705 pounds, and to date we have lost 210 pounds, putting us at 495! (Just now realized that we no longer weigh over 500 pounds combined. YIPEE!) I am still searching for a full…

Thanks everyone. It has definitely been a blessing to have each other for support. (Although it is equally fun to have a "cheat day" together as well!) We still have a ways to go, but we are headed in the right direction. My Fitness Pal has been a key ingredient to our new lifestyle. Eat less, exercise more!

I am going out tonight so I purposely left myself enough calories today to cover three wonderful Orange Wheat's from Hangar 24! Now, I just have to avoid drinking twelve of them, and stay clear of the buffalo wings!!! (Easier said than done!)

I love to geocache. Great excuse to burn an hour and some calories! The kids like it too. We recently left a cache on the top of a mountain with a great trail, called it: "Take a hike!"

Unfortunately I don't have any hard numbers to compare too. I have a bad habit of only going to the doctor when sick or broken, so my blood pressure would always be in the borderline-high range. Except that one time when I had just re-fracture my humerus in a car accident. It was really high that day! (Might have something…

I use to live by the rule: If I eat in the morning, I am hungry all day. If I wait until I am hungry, I will eat less. I have since found out on my weight loss journey that the first part is correct. If I eat in the morning I AM hungry all day, and that is a good thing. I have had much more luck starting early with a good…

Is it cheating? Maybe yes, maybe no... Is it better than sitting down and giving up? YES!!!!!

NSV for sure!

I usually weigh everything before. I don't know if it is right or wrong, I just find it easier! I am a true believer of keeping it simple.

What a transformation. I hope to get there myself!

Awesome job.

SOLID ADVICE! Sometimes we get too worried and start throwing solutions at our program when there isn't a problem. Other than making sure your calories and water consumption are in line, to quote Walt Disney: "Keep moving forward!"

Congrats!

I recently dusted off a section of XXL shirts that I had before I got married... 10 years ago! I am starting to swim in the ridiculous amount of 4XLT clothing I own.

That's what I am thinking but was looking for confirmation. I mean if I "net" 1500-1800 calories a day, does it matter if one day I net zero? That's only an extra 200-300 calories a day at the end of the week. I just don't see myself boosting my intake up to 2400 calories a day to cover daily workouts and a large weekly…

To post an image, it should look like this: Just replace the capital IMG with a lowercase img and then you and good to go!

You need to make the image smaller, you can't see the after photo and these forums don't allow resizing within the tags...

I probably should have mentioned that while the numbers may not be impressive to the cyclists out there, I thought they were pretty darn good for a guy who still weighs 297 pounds!

I might have to look into some trails. I live in the desert, but I guess dirt would still be softer than the asphalt road!
