I also started the day after surgery. I think it must shock the system or something, because I shouldn't have. I'm sure it is something that the surgeons would gladly advise you on.

The nutritionist didn't release me for protien bars until about 3 months out, the lifetime stage. I never did a lot of shakes. I added protein powder to everything and reached my quota that way.

Change it up - I got frustrated because I wanted some variety. Try different flavors of greek yogurt, mix protein powder with pudding, cream of wheat or soup. If you have a flexible schedule you can go back sooner. I have a desk job but am able to work from home. After a couple days I started working a few hours a day.
