  • If you're doing a 30 day paleo test run, why not eliminate dairy for that time frame too and see what happens. You don't think you're lactose intolerant, but how will you know if you never break from eating it? Maybe dairy is affecting you in ways you'd not expected. I'm halfway through my first Whole 30 and not consuming…
  • I love me some salads! Thanks for posting.
  • Never heard of 5-HTP to help with binging (interesting!), but know it's used to assist with sleep. I've taken it exactly two times and it caused such intense dreams that I won't touch the stuff again.
  • That seems odd, but I've only really been to 2 farmers markets, both in my area....I'm in NW Florida, and I'm able to get gigantic bundles of salad greens for $2, $.25 per cucumber/squash/peppers, $1.00 watermelons/cantaloupes....it's substantially cheaper than the grocery store. Not everything of course....eggs, meat,…
  • Another thought is to purchase meat on sale that's nearing its expiration date (or fresh produce on sale), and freeze it for later. Also, prepackaged meals (such as frozen or boxed) are rarely a good deal....you get more bang for your buck (dollar wise AND nutritionally) by cooking whole foods.
  • Your list looks great and has really good advice! The only suggestion off the top of my head is to look into a local farmers market. The produce is incredibly cheap for the quantity, and it's fresh (plus you support local farmers!). Some markets (mine anyways) will even accept food stamps.
  • I met my husband junior year of high school. At the time, my friend was interested in him and I was dating someone else. I tried hooking him up with the friend, but his sights were on me....we were dating within a few months, married 7 years later, and together now for 22. [mushy mode on] I feel lucky (very!) that we've…
  • Shopwell has an iphone app too. I can't remember if it was free or not (I think it was), but it's been a great resource when grocery shopping and going through my pantry. There's a bar scanner to make lookups super easy.
  • My fritatta creation - eggs, sausage, onions, peppers, tomatoes, pepperjack cheese and fresh basil. Basil came from the garden, the eggs straight from my birds butt to the skillet :)
  • This has been so interesting! I'm 5'7", 111 lbs and wear a size 4/27.
  • I have no kids, so I can't directly relate to your position, but I can certainly empathize. There is so much self-sacrifice given to raise children, something I'm still not wanting to do at 39. Don't let negative comments upset you - you are not alone. I believe it's somewhat a taboo for parents to express the desire to be…
  • Nope, I'm a strong swimmer. PBM didn't shower today....
  • You look wonderful. It's obvious how hard you've worked, you should be very proud of yourself.
  • I drank (moderately) during my weight loss phase, and now during maintenance (I'm having a drink right now!). The key (IMO) is to keep it within your caloric range and don't feel badly for the indulgence. The occasional drink won't sabotage to your diet. Measuring the amount of alcohol (which you're doing), as well as…
  • Generally speaking, yes, I do. I eat from 2-7 pm. I deviate at times, but generally stick to that window. I don't know why you asked, but if you are even remotely interested in intermittent fasting, I suggest doing a little self-experimentation to see if it works for you.
  • I keep a few small snacks in my purse at ALL times to avoid eating things I'll regret later - a single serving packet of almond butter (Justin's, eaten plain or with an apple or banana - both usually available at the convenience store), as well as a snack ziplock of homemade trail mix, and another of dark chocolate covered…
  • I don't have an aversion to grains, nor a sensitivity to quinoa. I don't eat it regularly, but I don't feel badly about it on the rate occasion when I do.
  • This was me. I came here to lose 20 pounds and bought into the idea of eating 6 times a day (every few hours) while restricting calories. I lost the weight this way, but the time spent preparing food, thinking of it, and actually eating it became all-consuming and triggered the return of my eating disorder. It has never…
  • Have you looked to see if there's a farmers market nearby? I get 60-80% of my fresh fruit and veggies there, and the cost is incredibly low ($.50 a spaghetti squash, $.25 peppers, etc). My market also has grass-fed beef at nearly the same cost as the grocery store's pink slime. I go every weekend to do the bulk of my…
  • Since your mom is already making dinner each night, can you pack the leftovers for lunch the next day? That seems an easy solution. You might find it helpful to buy a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store (since you aren't big on cooking) and pick the bird clean - eat the breasts one day and used the leftover meat for…
  • I eat the same way and find I rarely snack as well. I'd add to your already great list: chicken breast with salsa (shredded, in a baggie works well for this too), deli meat and veggie/lettuce wraps, hard-boiled eggs and almonds (my pre-work food if I need it), smoked salmon and fruit (I second the cherry suggestion, yum!),…
  • I am your twin! 5'7, starting weight 129 (highest I've ever been), current weight 111 (my normal range). I lost mine in the typical fashion - exercise and calorie restriction (45 min elliptical, 1,000 calories a day+exercise calories). At the time, I wasn't fussed with the quality of what I ate, just as long as I stayed…
  • You look beautiful. Congratulations on the weight loss and happy birthday.
  • The secret to being (and staying) thin is to eat when you're hungry, don't eat when you're not. The idea of eating every few hours hours is a modern concept. Consider how we evolved as a species and how a large portion of the world still eats today - there is no harm in skipping a meal a two. Do what feels right for you…
  • Looking for my twin.... Height: 5'7" SW: 130 CW: 111 GW: 110 UGW: none (I'd like to gain a few in muscle, lose a few in fat)
  • I don't know about acorn (never had it), but I like to cook my spaghetti squash on the grill. It's super easy, tastes great and (added bonus) it can be cooked at the same time as other foods. Cut the squash in half (lengthwise), scoop out the seeds, rub a little olive oil on the flesh along with whatever fresh…
  • I've found that weight loss/diet, along with politics and religion, are subjects best to just be avoided. I've been approached many times regarding my weight (and not always in a nice way) and I simply tell them I will not discuss it with them. All food and diet talk is squashed - immediatly. And I do not care if it comes…
  • I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. Do you have an eating plan, a set number of calories you try to consume each day? If so, it might help to treat each day as a reset - don't worry about what you ate yesterday (that day is gone now) and instead focus with getting back on plan today. You know what you need to do for…
