Not too picky, 18-25% BF looks great. My wife is a little higher, but she's hot to me.

My advice: less time with D and D and more time with the wifey.

I have done Atkins and lost a lot of weight. It and Paleo are good for gluten intolerance, but for me with Atkins I got tired of meat, eggs, cheese and salad greens all the time. Not enough variety. Plus my cholesterol shot up to 363. Now I just do MFP and stay under my calorie limit but eat a wide variety of healthy (and…

Not to be too picky, but the jaw joint itself is called the temperomandibular joint, or TMJ. Any problem with the joint is called temperomandibular dysfunction, or TMD. You have two TMJ's and a case of TMD. The first thing you should do if your jaw clicks, pops, or gets stuck is to quit chewing gum or anything chewy. Then…

That's true, this is from Wiki: Bleached flour is a white flour treated with flour bleaching agents to whiten it (freshly milled flour is yellowish) and to give it more gluten-producing potential. Oxidizing agents are usually employed, most commonly organic peroxides like acetone peroxide or benzoyl peroxide, nitrogen…

Here's a pretty good lit review from JAMA, a peer-reviewed journal on the relevance of GI on people: http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?volume=287&issue=18&page=2414

Hilarious! My letter would be to "red meat" although we still get together from time to time.

I would set it at lightly active for 2 wks and see how it goes. Adjust it up or down from there as necessary.

What worked for me was quitting running then after the shin splints healed starting again and increasing speed/distance much slower. I hope you have good luck.

I just scrub, bake at 400F for 1 hr, and let it cool for 10 min, then eat without adding anything.

Look at the thread started by the Original Epic, this is dealt with multiple times on that thread. I hope this helps.

I would suggest a baked sweet potato and a protein shake for dinner. You'll be full and under 350 calories if you use the right kind of protein.

Great thread topic! Mine would be eat less than you burn! Okay that's too obvious. How about try not to fixate on food and losing weight. Just find a good plan (like losing 1lb / wk on MFP) and stick to it. Get involved in other things to occupy your mind with. Give yourself a lot of time to lose the weight- one year.

I check a lot too, but I don't see it as a problem. My "official" weigh-in is first thing in the morning. I usually have lost some weight, so it is motivating. Other weigh ins during the day are more for curiosity.

I'm a male, 44y/o 5' 9", 155lbs. Almost near my goal weight, but now I want to build muscle, and burn remaining fat. How should I eat (currently at 1470 cal)? I.e. How many cals should I raise my daily intake to? How should I work out (just started a stronglift 5x5)? Should I ignore the scale now, if so, how should I track…

My wife also had a kidney stone while on Atkins. I lost a ton on Atkins years ago and it was easy, but my cholesterol spiked and I was put on a statin. Now I'm just watching calories and not eating cholesterol (well, very little-just what's in a protein shake) and don't take a statin.

I'd like to join the many who have already thanked you for doing this thread. It's very informative and motivating!

The scale can be a motivator or an enemy to fitness, like you described. It's easy to get obsessed about a number on the scale, when we really want to get fit and healthy. I

That happens when your really, really hungry. It's an evolutionary adaptation to help you find food when your caloric intake has dropped.

Not a big fan of the tattoo.

Good use of lighting in your photo.

Thanks for the advise. I started stronglifts 5x5 today. I think I will keep weighing in: if I am lifting heavy and my weight stays the same, I must be building muscle and burning fat, right?
