Add me. I don't have much time for video gaming in the recent past, but gaming is still a hobby. Most recent game I enjoyed for more than an hour or two was Skyrim. Favorite game series is Final Fantasy. My childhood was Nintendo-centric. Played D&D in high school. Lately I've been taking a liking to strategy-based board…

Overnight oats. I'm relatively new to the concept but I've found it saves me a boatload of time in the morning. I shoot for 600 calories per jar, and eat half before my workout at 5 a.m.; the other half at 9 a.m. keeps me satiated until lunch.

2 things I'd question in your position: 1. 1000 cal/day is probably too low (unless you're exceptionally small); and 2. Restricting fat AND carbs? If I were you I'd focus on restricting just one.

If you're getting trashed, the mass-produced stuff is the way to go. That has its place in society, I suppose. Just not for me.

Wow. That's just shy of 10 pounds a month. No days off for you. No one can criticize you for enjoying your beer. The way I see it, on MFP there's a very good reason 'alcohol' gets its own category. It's not just there to be left blank.

My beer taste definitely changes depending on the season, from stouts/porters in the winter (some local breweries make exceptional 'milk stouts'), brown ales in the spring and fall (including oktoberfest beers), to pale lagers (especially pilsners) in the summer. I have a categorical dislike of common domestics. Most of my…

At breakfast: Oatmeal, hands down. For me nothing else comes close. Lunch and Dinner: Meat, accompanied by a large amount of a green vegetable of choice.

Hopefully this is some sort of 'teaser' piece for a future article that will revolutionize the way we think about metabolism and weight management. Otherwise it's a complete waste of everyone's time.

I was 300 a few years ago. 250 today. Shooting for about 210 this year. Among a multitude of helpful suggestions you'll get, one that can start benefiting you TODAY is do 30 minutes of exercise, in some form. Walking is fine. If you want to play games on your phone while you walk that's fine--but get walking. And ignore…

I like this biblical proverb better (paraphrasing, I don't feel like looking it up): No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but it produces a harvest of righteousness.

Well, at least their politicians aren't thoroughly corrupt in every way; I have faith they can turn this debacle around.

Today I'm motivated by a weight loss challenge hosted by my gym--the first 'offline' challenge I've ever participated in--and health-related reading material, including the book "The Endurance Diet" by sports writer Matt Fitzgerald.

^ this. Hooray for <$30 fitness trackers! Now, VeryFitPro does link to Apple Health. But ideally it would be able to connect to MFP directly.

Wife and I are from Missouri state; In-laws live in Missouri City

I had a membership at one of those $10/month gyms in my area, and I absolutely hated the fact that, because I could only work out at peak hours, I had to wait 5-10 minutes for whatever piece of equipment I wanted to use, every day. Solution: My wife and I joined a gym that's roughly $25 a person, and with the time we're…

You enjoy cooking, and that's great. But do you truly think your calling is 'talking' about cooking? I've not done it myself, but I'd speculate to talk about cooking healthy meals would get old--quickly. You might consider starting a YouTube channel, then you could talk about healthy cooking, plus you'll get to actually…

If you don't want or need the money, I'm sure the government will (poorly) manage it for you.

OK, I did the research. And you are partially correct; identifying food intolerances is one small purpose. But this is the big picture: the program's stated goal, from the Whole30 website itself: "Our goal with the Whole30 is to support and catalyze new, healthy habits so that after doing the program, learning about how…

I bought a belt a few months ago, and I've never adjusted it to any other than the first (loosest) notch. Today I've got it on the 2nd notch. :)

More seasoned Whole30ers can refute me on this one (I was only on it briefly), but I don't believe it's intended to be a permanent thing. The purpose of it--and if not the primary purpose, the true value of it IMO--is to reset the way you think about food. For 30 days you eat more veggies, nuts, meat, unprocessed foods,…

Chicago style or other thick styles pretty much require a fork. St. Louis style, and other thin styles, will probably get you laughed at to eat with a fork. But if the occasion is a date, fork use or lack thereof is probably not a dealbreaker, either way. Just be yourself.

Not sure there's a fixed amount of weight you have to lose to fix P.F. I had it when I weighed 285, and it went away during the course of a 30ish-pound loss. If you need to lose weight, just lose it. If the idea of cured P.F. can motivate you to lose weight, just know that less body weight = less stress on your feet = less…

Yes, in a way. The street I live on is Birmingham.

Not a Harry Potter fan, but I was in to Lord of the Rings and D&D in high school. I've always been into strategy board games, like Risk and Catan--which in my opinion is super-nerdy though I don't believe that's been mentioned. My wife likes the more casual Ticket to Ride, which I hope will be a stepping stone into more…

I'd contend that wine may not be the problem. As a habit, I drink exactly one beer, which is the first thing I do when I arrive home from the office. It's a relaxation thing; I'm happy to drink one beer, then go about the rest of my evening. At the bar (when I go there, which isn't often), I drink exactly one beer, then…

I was tempted to call you a 'killjoy'. But, truthfully, though I'm a genealogical DNA advocate, every potential tester does need to know possible negative consequences. The scenario that freaks me out the most is the likelihood that health and life insurance companies will start researching the human genome (if they aren't…

I don't pay anything monthly. For a family membership, I pay $550 /year.

Both of my parents, and my wife's parents, have taken Ancestry DNA tests. I would take one, but because I'm 50% Mom and 50% Dad there's not much of a point. These are a few interesting things I've discovered: - My father's DNA kit uncovered a significant Native Americans ethnicity. Family lore we discovered from distant…
