Check your body fat %. That (other than tests from your doctor) is the most accurate measuring stick to see if you are fit. If you are light on the scale, but your body fat % is high, then you are at risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke etc. The long term benefits of being healthy far outweigh the short term tingle of…

I don't track calories either. I swim as often as possible. Sometimes 5x week. Sometimes 0. Before taking laps I do upper body and lower body resistance exercises in the pool. It's an awesome burn that I can't even describe!

Yes I'm a Certified Nutritionist. I'm in school pursuing my MS in Nutrition Science as well. I call it drive by medical school. I learned alot more about anatomy and physiology than I ever expected. But it has been an exciting new career!

I'm trying to dip back in to the teens myself. I had a shoulder and hip injury and couldn't workout for a long time. I stayed in shape by eating healthy, but my BF has gone up.

Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn u just struck a nerve! I could eat it every day. I usually have a huge one before and after working out.

Pizza, cake and chips as you fall asleep at night have a different effect on your body if you had them earlier in the day. For a period I was a strict eater until I got in the range I was comfortable in. But I still want to enjoy life and indulge in things I crave from time to time. Don't feel guilty about it. The best…

We really need to refine the phrase "calories in - calories out" etc. Eating deep fried chicken (in) and walking around the block and burning calories (out) has a night and day different end result than eating grilled salmon (in) and exercise followed by cardio (out). The quality of the nutrients make a big difference. I…

I'm in Louisville (Prospect) every week! And 4th Street every now and then ;)

Good luck! When you say increase your portions, do you mean increase your meals, but eat smaller portions?

Feel free to add me. I'm a personal trainer and nutritionist. I used to be pre-diabetic and was at risk of having a stroke. 100 lbs later I have a whole new healthy life!

White bread is a simple carb. Whole grain/wheat is a complex carb. Carbohydrates found in pasta, grains, vegetables, fruits, breads, cereals, rice, beans, sugar, candies, etc., are all of two basic types, complex and simple sugars. If a carbohydrate contains soluble fiber it is considered “complex” and is desirably…

The author lost me at "a jillion". People who want diets turn to Atkins or Lemonade Diets instead of changing their lifestyle. Immediate gratification is a major contributor to this weight gain problem. So it can't also be the answer to weight loss (healthy weight loss). I didn't get to be 300 lbs in 10 days. So I didn't…

When you are at the gym, check your body fat %, not just your weight. That will tell the truth.

Calories seem very low for someone who plans to hit the weights seriously. I would change the activity level so it can increase your calorie goal. Divide it by 6 and eat that many calories every 3/4 hours. Before and after you workout increase your carbs and protein based on what you will burn while training.

Sounds like you are over training as well as not getting enough calories. Both prohibit efficient fat loss and lean muscle building. A meal replacement shake is ok to "replace a meal". A whey protein shake is not intended to replace a meal. Just add more protein to your diet. Hitting the iron 6 days a week is not giving…

An athlete or body builder with a high calorie diet might not drink that much water on a training day. Your body must digest water just like food. You can only digest 8 oz of water ever 20 minutes. Most of that water is going to your bladder and not affecting your metabolism. I think it's great that you have the discipline…

Everyone has their own approach to getting fit. What you are suggesting is not what MFP suggests so I doubt you will find much, if any, support on here. Those may be high calorie meals, but still not proper portions. Good luck!

Make sure you check the sodium content of any canned foods (even fish and chicken). It's sometimes through the roof!

I have 2 cheat days a week. No matter when I cheat I make sure I exercised that day. If I don't hit the gym or play softball etc, then I lose the cheat day. Pizza and Peanut MnM's are my cheat day craves. But I still stay in small portions.
