I've been here for awhile, had success and setbacks and am now back in a pretty good pattern... Many of my once-motivating friends have disappeared so I am looking for some new ones. Feel free to add me!

I agree... It's harder to find the time for the longer workouts. I usually have one day off work during the week and work from home on the weekends so I really just have to get that 3rd day in... I am trying to add 1-2 days of running 'off program' by either doing 2-3 miles or drills to increase speed/endurance. I have…

Great job Maureen!! I always want to stop the first few minutes but then get in my "zone" after around 5-7 minutes. I have moved on in to the 10K training program and it is back to intervals (this week it is run 15 walk 1 x 3) and often after that 1 minute of walking I find myself wishing I had just kept running because I…

Sounds like rest is the best for you beattie... :frown: Try to stay active (even just walking) and I am sure you will pick up close to where you left off!

I.DID.IT!!!!! I am officially a C25K graduate! 30 min run this morning = 2.55 miles (5 mph average). I took a little different route so I couldn't 'see' how much farther I had to go... I felt so much better than Wednesday! Now, I am going to pick up the 10K training program as well as work on increasing my speed. I may not…

So, I did W8D2 today.... It was AWFUL!! We had 93% humidity this morning and I never felt like I got into my rhythm. My heart rate was crazy high and I felt like quitting. I walked about 30-45 seconds somewhere after halfway and then managed to finish. Total distance (for 28 minute "run" portion) 2.3 miles, average speed…

I agree... Well done!!! Can't wait to hear about your progress :)

Wow! I had a rather crappy start to my day and did not get to run this morning as planned :(. It seems as though that carried over into me continuing to have a crappy day.... So, I decided that since it was a rather pleasant evening for end of July (78 degrees here) I would run tonight. Week 8 day 1 complete! Took a…

I try to walk most days... Even on days I do C25k I tend to take at least a 30 minute walk (usually at work because otherwise my butt would be in my chair ALL DAY!! I take a much slower pace on these walks (about 2.5 to 3 mph compared to my 'workout walk' speed of close to 4 mph). In terms of your muscle pain, are you…

I think it's safe to say most people are a little intimidated by W5D3! Just take it slow and try not to think about it... You can do it!
-
I second that! Great job getting started!

beattie - yes, I am using the Zen Labs C25K app on iPhone and it is 3 days/week for 8 weeks. There is also a 10K training program that is 14 weeks (the first 8 are identical to C25K). Are you wanting something to keep going to increase your distance or just maintain what you have achieved?
-
I hear you on the increased time thing! I am doing it outside in the AM and it will be a challenge. I am planning to keep one of the days on the weekend and the other 2 during the week. Then, my plan is to work on speed and hills on 1 or 2 of the non-10K training days (therefore keeping the workout time to 35-40 minutes).

Week 7 Day 3 done this morning! 2.12 miles, average speed 5.03 mph (11:56 min/mi) for the 25 minute run... I will take it! Only 3 days left :)
-
Can't wait to hear how it went!!
-
I am going to continue on to the 10K as well... I figured I would just switch when I complete week 8 next week. I think about running quite a bit during the day, too, while I am sitting on my butt at my desk :)
-
It will be here before you know it!! Can't wait to see your progress :)

So glad to see some new faces! For a few weeks there, it felt like it was just me and beattie! I did W7D2 this morning and felt pretty much the same as I did on Monday (with W7D1). I am looking forward to some fall events that I am planning to sign up for (5K's and longer!!! eek!!! ) Keep up the great work…

This is an open forum, so YES! please join us and share your successes (and challenges). Have you an your friend looked at any of the C25K apps?

Way to go cnewquist!! We knew you could do it! So glad slowing down helped you achieve success... We can worry about speed later :)

Way to go beattie! That's awesome that you were able to volunteer AND get some exercise in yesterday!

Week 7, Day 1 complete this morning. It was so strange because I really never felt like "I can't do this"... When I came upon a hill (that was new on my route because I went further than I have been), I just slowed down and thought to myself "one step at a time". Happy Running everyone!

I would say start it and if you are not quite up to running continuously on October 5, then just do intervals! You will be much further along by then if you start today :) In terms of your weight, I (personally) do not think that should stop you. Just listen to your body and go SLOW and you will become more and more…

Another thought, are you running outside or on a treadmill? If outside, could it be the terrain on your right side is not even (like the side of a road is tapered and therefore not flat)? Also, are you wearing properly fitted shoes? Just a few other things to consider instead of runners knee...
-
I also experienced knee pain about 3 or 4 weeks in (left much worse than right). I did some research and self-diagnosed runners knee. I took additional rest, iced my knee a couple times a day (especially after running) and also tried a foam roller to loosen my muscle from my hip to my knee. Now! I am doing just fine. I…

Great job! Keep at it and you will get there!

Do you hear the echo?? Lol! I am going to encourage you to slow down as well. I did W6D3 today and I used Runtastic to track only the running portion (22 minutes with no walking) and I went 1.88 miles for an average pace of 4.93 mph (or 12:10 min/mile). I take a good 4 or 5 minutes to get in to a rhythm with my breathing…
