  • I'm 5'5" and currently at 150 # and a US size 10. Given that I started at about 180, a lot of people have noticed the difference and if I tell them that I would like to lose another 20, they tell me no. But that is more or less in the middle of the healthy BMI range and I'd like to be more than one doughnut away from…
  • I would agree. It's about a lifestyle, not a diet. Healthy choices and recognizing that treats are a part of that but not a big part. You can do this for you AND your family. So far MFP hasn't affected my family much. Their habits did not have to be mine and vice versa. Yesterday in the grocery store, my husband put some…
  • Next time you can remind Mr./Ms None-of-his-business that you fully intend to keep voting, that your name is on the deed [if that's the case] and that part of what women have fought for over the past 100 years is the ability to choose the life you want. If that is a career, so be it. If it is managing a home, so be it. My…
  • 40 km (round trip) bike commute to work.
  • Eat less and exercise more. Why isn't there a pill for that!
  • Hahaha! I know how you feel. I even feel strange calling MFP my 'diet site' because it's about lifestyle not 'diets'. When people ask me how I did it, I usually just say, "There's an app for that," and only get more specific if they ask. On the other hand, now when I see someone who is kind of tubby, I want to hand them a…
  • Hurray you!
  • That's some will power! We were having a charity meeting and someone had brought a BIG bag of two bite brownies. The bag was beside me where I was working away on my laptop. In about 3 minutes, I had eaten 4! I asked someone to move the bag into the kitchen and I didn't have any more. Will power with a little help. :ohwell:
  • The person from the association wasn't saying that it would cause someone to get an eating disorder but that it would have a negative effect on someone who already had an eating disorder. I also don't see anything to bad in it but I don't have an eating disorder. I know that there are other things don't stike me as…
  • On Tuesday a friend took a picture of me and I didn't hate it.
  • Bento california rolls with brown rice. I eat the pickled ginger for desert. Yummy!
  • LOL! Same here. I'm trying to get by with buying as little as I can and on sale since I'm not at my goal weight yet. Fortunately most of my tops and jackets are still good but the pants were all falling off. Now I've learned to buy pants with belt loops so that I can pull them in. It's a good problem to have and the new…
  • A homeopath recommended Webber Naturals to me as having vitamins in forms that the body can easily absorb. I'm not sure how they stack up pricewise.
  • I was also going to recommend aloo gobi and ask for it mild. It's very tasty. Also there is one - maybe Chana masala?- that is chickpeas and also very tasty and a complete protein with some rice. They may be able to give you steamed brown rice. An Indian restaurant is always happy to make you happy. Chicken Tika masala is…
  • I don't wear headphones while I'm riding. I consider it dangerous. I come up behind so many bikers, joggers, walkers who do not know what is going on around them because their music is so loud. Just my opinion.
  • Cheer up, sweetie. It's got nothing to do with you. :flowerforyou: Kids judge everything by their own family who are 'right'. So compared to his tiny family, you are large and his only word for it is 'fat'. I remember once babysitting for a kid whose mother was very flat chested. I was wearing one of those old Levi shirts…
  • Good topic.
  • You know that you can do it! You want to do it! Now go ahead and do it! Portion control is a hard thing but you can do it. And if you can't get motivated for exercise than you scrub the deck and polish the metal and make that boat shine. You'll be surprised how many calories that burns. And maybe you'll decide that a walk…

  • I've got my university jeans hanging in the closet. Right now, I'm the only one who got fat. :grumble:
  • The distraction thing is good - "I'll snack after I do..." and then sometimes the urge passes. Or I keep some moderate binge materials - microwave popcorn or mini-rice crisps with or without hummus. That way, a binge is not that many calories. On the other hand - I ate a package of Hostess cupcakes the other night so…
  • http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/fitness/fitness-basics/strength-training-lower-body/video-get-ready-for-bathing-suit-season-with-leg-kicks/article1719186/ This looks good and doesn't seem to bend the knee.
  • (Vaguely quoting someone here) After dinner last night, elves broke into my house, threw me off the wagon and made me eat Hostess cupcakes. However, (vaguely quoting Scarlett) today is another day.
  • I've bought high heels for the first time in 15 years since I'm not putting as much pressure on that tiny little bit of foot.
  • A lot of people here think that you can balance calories out over a week. And many believe in yo-yo calories (a lot one day, fewer another). I wouldn't eat very little for the whole week to balance out a vacation week. But undereating for one day shouldn't hurt you.
  • There was another thread like this and the consensus seemed to be steamed veggies with the sauce on the side. If you can't order like that, I would suggest beef with brocolli on steamed rice.
  • Me too. But a year of yoga has helped a lot and particularly in the recreational activity that you mention. Sorry to say but nothing will help except perseverence and slow progress.
  • My neighbour told me that the woman who was sitting with her as I went into the house said, "Is that your neighbour? I wouldn't have recognized her. She has lost a lot of weight."
  • Yes, marrying someone I had known only 18 months. 21 years later, it's better than ever.
  • Like anything, there is a huge variation based on what you choose. Starbucks will put whipped cream on anything if you ask - even your brewed tea. I (rarely) get a tall non-fat caramel machiato for 120 cal and consider it a dessert. It was already in the food data base.
