  • I got an iPhone and there's an App for that. From that I really got in to MFP and it has synthesized a lot of weight loss reading that I've been doing in preparation for 20 years.
  • Yeah you!

  • You've lost 31 pounds! Dance the victory dance every day! For me it was when my pants were falling down and I bought new, smaller ones. That's when everybody at work noticed.
  • I agree with the 'plan ahead' approach. Once you see how many calories that roll and butter get logged as, you may not want them so much any more!
  • I think it's because they smell like you. My cat used to love to curl up on anything I'd sweated in.
  • I am very tempted by things that I like but if I give it to the dog I don't feel like I'm wasting it. I can cut him back on his dog food to make up. He much prefers people food to his dog food.
  • I would also echo the fibre and water recommendation. Oatmeal every morning.
  • I would agree with this and comments about exercising to give yourself leeway. But then also suggest hummus and veggies or brown rice crackers as a snack. The protein and complex carbs should fill you up for longer. Make some up on a plate and then don't go back for more.
  • Lord of the Rings - just don't get it. 10 thousand elves and dwarves die and not one character with a name (except bad guys and I include Boromir in that). Cohen brothers' movies - overly stylized boring crap without a message. IMHO - I realize that I'm out of step.
  • Remember that 1200 cal should be a net number. At that level if you are exercising, you should be eating back ALL of your exercise calories. Going below 1200 sends you in to starvation. When I started here, I didn't lose anything for a month. I almost passed out a couple of times because of low blood sugar. Then I had an…

  • That's what I thought when I saw your post. This too shall pass. One day, you will be able to sleep again. There has been some excellent advice here on planning for meals. Remember how many calories are burned by housework, gardening, laundry, etc. It reminds you that you have exercised and better surroundings always make…
  • Lindt squares of dark chocolate. Really savour it. Do nothing else while you eat it. Concentrate on how good it tastes. Then one is enough.
  • I am not a doctor! I had a problem last year when I wasn't eating enough. Small breakfast, hour biking, walk before lunch and I almost passed out walking down the street. Now I try to keep the blood sugar more even with more frequent meals and eating back my calories.
  • When we lose weight, our clothes get loose.
  • Thanks! I'll have to remember that. A while ago I was in a meeting with a violent cold. Someone that I know quite well said, "You sound terrible." I said, "But how do I look?" expecting, "You look really sick." or "You look like you didn't sleep last night." He said, "You look fantastic... but you sound terrible." NSV!

  • I've been wondering for a while....what is NSV?

  • Have you every seen the movie Passion Fish? There is one character named Precious who has no sense of humour. She gets confused whenever someone makes a witty remark. Her sister is always saying, "It's a joke, Precious." Now whenever I encounter one of those people, I just think to myself, "It's a joke, Precious."
  • I still log everything but count it as my cheat day. Like another person, I was surprised that my cheat days aren't that bad. After 9 months here, my 'pig out' has gone from half a bag of cookies to 4. My cheat day now looks like my 'normal' day was at my starting weight. It has suddenly struck me that we go through…
  • For some people it could start a sugar/shame spiral. Can you say, "I earned this!" and stop at one? In my opinion, that's one of the main reasons for exercise -- so you can eat the occasional treat. I'm really looking forward to starting my bicycle commuting with the warm weather because it means that I can have an ice…
  • I can see why its a hard choice but I also vote 2.
  • Does "no skins" rule out grapes? 'cause I love grapes. I also eat oranges and bananas at work. A friend brings in a tupperware of cut, fresh pineapple, strawberries, blackberries and/or blueberries and munches that as snack.
  • I use skim for my cereal and baking but I drink water and take a calcium pill. Sometimes as a treat, I drink chocolate milk, which is usually 1%, but not very often.

  • These are the lessons that I've learned as well. This is not a diet it's a new relationship to food. Well done and keep up the good work. The next milestone is within reach!
  • The pumpkin scone at Starbucks for 500 calories. That's a meal! That's some stealth calories. I used to get one if I'd skipped breakfast. Now I have half a whole wheat bagel and some peanut or almond butter. I feel full longer.
  • Specifically as snacks you can get soy nuts or roasted chickpeas at most health food stores. Roasted, unsalted almonds are terrific for calcium, fibre and protein but the calories (and fat) add up fast.
  • Good attitude. It can be hard to stop comparing yourself with another and focus on how you feel. I hear you about the stretch marks. I don't have them from pregnancy but from puberty. As a kid, one day I had no hips. The next day I had hips and stretch marks. My husband has them on his back from the summer that he grew 8…
  • A big success indeed!
  • The Skinny recommends bourbon. I would recommend lots of ice.
