  • b, a, k, and z are the first letters for each person in my family (Bill-my husband, Audrey-me; Kaity-my daughter; Zach-my son) that makes 4 of us....so bakz4. Not very original.
  • Please be careful and take lots of breaks.
  • AMEN!!! We're supposed to get into the mid-40's this week. I hope it stays cold up there until President's Week. Many of my students are talking of heading to Loon or Bretton Woods to go skiing!
  • I hear ya with this one! Back in the day, "Snowed-in Days" were filled with baking cookies, breads, lots of snacks, and movies. Now, it's really keeping the current weight loss at the forefront of my mind and being in control. Unfortunately, I'm not able to shovel (doctors orders), especially with this amount of snow;…
  • My parents don't live too far from Mt Washington. I've been up there when there's been over 2'!! Have fun!!
  • Purplesaurus, remember it's all about perspective. I live on Long Island, NY. We can handle several inches without a problem. Recently I read some Facebook posts from a friend in Virginia who was at a standstil and couldn't belive schools weren't closed with just 1". We don't generally get that much, but there were 60 mph…
  • I hear you on that comment! Around the time you posted this, there was a rain bubble over the town I live in (according to the radar photos)...we woke up to over 12', but can't get out to measure just yet.
  • I'm 5'2" SW - 206; size 16/18 (most tight) CW-180(ish); size 14 (comfortable) I'd love skinny pants too, but the genetic disfugurement in my family are those awful "saddle bags"...so, I doubt I'll ever wear skinny pants! My goal is a size 10 pant!!
  • My daughter has the DVD, and I thought I'd try it today. I just did Level 1 of the 30-day shred, and according to my heart rate monitor, in 30 minutes, I burned over 200 calories. It's a tough workout, but something I definitely need!! Good luck to anyone doing it!
  • I have both. The Fitbit Ultra is a glorified pedometer. It calculats calories burned, stairs climbed, etc...but I don't think it's as accurate as a heart rate monitor. I mean, I'm burning calories when I bike ride...but the Fitbit doesn't know that my heartrate is pumping, it's only calculating steps. Since I was pretty…
  • My two children who are in their 20's. They motivate me to be ther healthiest mom I can be for them. Plus, I want to be an active and involved grandmother for when they have their own children...probably not in the near future...so I have lots of time to make slow and gradual lifestyle changes.
  • We'd been dating for 3 months. We wanted to spend New Year's weekend in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. At the stroke of midnight of the new milennium, he slipped the ring on my finger as I went in for the kiss!!! We got married 8 months later. That was (obviously) 12 years ago!! :blushing:
  • You feel like crap because of what other people said to you? Tell you what...go to the nearest grocery store and pick up a 25-50 pound bag of dog food you can find and carry it around while you do your shopping. I guarantee that you'll feel the success you made thus far before you get to the check out (I did that with just…
  • I feel your 'pain'. I had 5 major abdominal surgeries in a 15-month time period, ultimately ending in hernia repair in my lower abdoman (from the belly button to the pelvic area). This was 4 years ago. While you may feel fine on the outside and ready to go, your body needs to heal on the inside...where you can't see and…
  • Learn from it. Discover what caused the slip ups, why, and think about how tomorrow (and future days) can be different. One thing that I have learned is that none of us are perfect, we all slip. But going into this we have to be honest with ourselves, realize we are going to slip, but that we can get back on the wagon…
  • brandyss - love that waistline...I'm working toward that!!
  • In April 2012 I was 5'2" and 50 years old and lost 25 pounds in less than 6 months by counting calories (1200) and walking. Since beginning I've gained strength and endurance and walked 2 5K's. So, yes, you can lose 20 pounds by May.
  • Depends what differences you are looking for. Weight? It might be a week, could be right away, could be longer. But the first weight change you'll see is water weight. Losing more than a pound or two each week is what you should aim for. Clothes? Everyone's different. It took me close to 15-20 pounds for my clothes to…
  • Everyone here has their own battles with weight loss. Some have a little to lose, others have a lot. Some seem to drop quickly while others struggle. Some seem to love exercise yet others loathe it. We're all here for different reasons. Personally, I think I have a lot to lose. For me, if I look at the big picture, I get…
  • That's my ultimate goal! Congrats!! :flowerforyou:
  • You're absolutely right...you never know who is looking at you or to you for inspiration. I'm a firm believer of that!! Since my weight loss journey and new mindset changed back in April, many people have joined with me on their own journeys. Not only does that help me to keep my head held high as they watch me, but I also…
  • CONGRATS!! :drinker: I also did my first 5K today, however, I walked/jogged. I did it in 55 minutes, slow in comparison, but I'm going to work up to running! Good work!! I know the excitement you feel!
  • Liking my body with 24 pounds gone!!
  • I tried WW several times over the years. I guess the best way to put it is that I didn't make it work for me. Figuring out points, etc was too much for me. With MFP, you see the calories on the wrapper of what you are going to eat and you know if it will fit into your plan. Most weight loss programs now have apps for…
  • Don't look at the big picture. Take one day at a time and learn to enjoy the new habits you are creating. I have a lot to lose too, but I haven't put a time frame on when I want to lose it all by. I'm focusing more on small, achievable goals which in the end will create a healthy me. Back in April I couldn't even walk a…
  • I find it odd that when I wake up in the morning it has steps registered when I've not even gotten out of bed!
  • Today, mine is stuck on "Smooches"....lol
