Bump -- to read later

Hard boiled eggs (I boil a dozen on Sunday and am good for the week) and/or protein shakes are typically my go-to items. I also like Greek yogurt with walnuts mixed in -- that might be worth trying if you haven't already, since it tastes different from regular yogurt.

Me! Losing for 07/07/12 -- would love to be in your group :)

I'm with you -- HATE tracking. But I also hate being overweight, out of shape, and at risk of health problems. Lesser of two evils I suppose?
-
I swear by frozen vegetables. Easy to microwave and less sodium than canned.
-
I want to play this game too! I would say that the unhealthiness comes from the large amounts of preservatives, compared with, say, a ground beef patty from your butcher and some homemade bread with a few veggies thrown on. Also, fast food restaurants (well, nearly all restaurants really) serve quite large portions, which…

Agree with previous posters. What's embarrassing about being healthy?

I watched a really interesting BBC documentary recently called "Why Aren't Skinny People Fat?" -- Look it up on YouTube, there are about 5 different segments (watch them in order!). It was really fascinating to see and hear some of the explanations as to why some people gain weight and others don't. Look it up, seriously!

Bump -- I fully agree! No "cheating" here, just realistic goals.

I recommend the book "Women Food and God". It is basically an elongated, in-depth version of your post. And very thought-provoking

Putting aside for the moment that I really do NOT care for the phrase "happy weight" (as I try very hard to associate my happiness with things other than my weight), it said 133 for me. I'm aiming for 140, and potentially 135 depending on how I look at that point.

I know it doesn't totally fit within the question, but for me it's FOOD! Learning how to grocery shop in a way that facilitates me achieving my goals. Getting away from the frozen food aisle (except for frozen veggies), getting acquainted with the produce section (seriously, I never went much before), reading labels while…

Seriously, I think a lot of people don't think it's real food unless it comes from a drive-through or a microwavable tray. I tend to eat half a peanut butter sandwich (no jelly), a bag of baby carrots, a fruit of some kind, and maybe yogurt or something -- and my office-mates at internship looked at me funny.

I guess the dead horse is still twitching a little. Obviously a pound is a pound. If you're comparing 2 things by mass, then you don't compare the same mass of them. One pound of anything weighs the same as one pound of anything else. You weigh equivalent volumes of them. As you did the reverse, by saying that a pound is…

I apologize that it sounded patronizing. For the sake of their health, there are several people in my family who need to lose weight. There, I said it. Some people do need to lose weight. I just meant that they are not making a conscious effort (to my knowledge) to do so, and I do not want to seem as though I'm insinuating…

Thanks, all, for the suggestions! I think I will do my best to have healthy alternatives to some things, without looking like I'm discriminating those who eat higher calorie options. I LOVE the idea about veggie sticks and chips! Similarly, maybe a whole-grain pasta with both cream sauce and tomato sauce options; or a taco…

Bump :)

The closer you are to your goal weight, the more of a difference it makes. When you have 200 pounds to lose, you can afford not to eat back every exercise calorie. But when you're trying to lose, say, 15 pounds, your body is functioning differently and your metabolism is much more sensitive to small numbers of calories.

If it were me, I'd have a beer or two :drinker:

 this.

Funny you ask, as I never thought to ask around when I started! So I just bought 5 pound weights and have been using them. It's a challenge, but I enjoy it! I've generally had some upper body strength (not a lot, but some), and I enjoy feeling sore after the workouts.

I'm 5'7" and started out at my highest weight of 180 lbs. Now I'm down to 158/160-ish, and my goal is to maintain in the 135-140 range.
-
It's normal. I've seen as much as 6-lbs difference in one day (morning vs. evening). I recommend weighing weekly, same day/time/clothing/empty stomach, so as not to obsess over the fluctuations. I weigh myself every morning just because it's an old habit, but I only record my weight every Wednesday. Also, under "Reports"…

Great post! Hoping others will read it and consider your points

8 fluid ounces is not the same thing as 8 ounces by mass though. One measures volume and one measures mass. Water happens to be the substance for which they are equal. That is, the amount of water that fits in an 8-fluid-ounce measuring cup weighs exactly 8 ounces by mass. But for anything else you're measuring (cereal…

Way to go! And awesome job on identifying and reducing the sodium!! Much better than going on medication.

I don't follow how someone else's goals (someone whom you've never met and with whom you do not have to interact) cause you to feel discouraged. If you don't find encouragement from someone, then why not leave them alone and continue on your own journey with the people who are supportive of you?

Quoted because: -- I wanted to see what it was. -- And I fully agree! Just pulled up a seat.

Unfortunately, the last 10-15 pounds are typically the hardest to lose and the slowest to come off. I would recommend setting your weekly goal to 0.5 or 1.0 lbs per week, rather than the 2 lbs per week. As counter-intuitive as it seems, sometimes the body needs a few *more* calories in order to start (or continue) shedding…

Congrats on your achievement! You look fantastic!!
