This isn't a list of countries based on their percentages of obese people, though. It says, "More than half of the 671 million obese people in the world live in 10 countries, and America tops the list." I.e., it's skewed based on total population -- meaning even worse news for the US, which has far fewer people than China…

Flame Broiler. (Not sure if they're just an L.A. chain or bigger.) They do bowls with rice, veggies, chicken, or any combination of two. Brown rice and all white meat chicken is delicious and nutritious!

Thank you for posting this! I have felt this way since the beginning of my weight-loss journey and my examination of my relationships with food. I'm also in graduate school and will be finishing my MSW this May -- I appreciate the SW/behavioral perspective :flowerforyou: Also, for anyone interested in this sort of thing, I…

Honeymoon next summer!

I've already met my mini-goal that I had set for January 1, so I feel fine eating at maintenance level for the next week or so. The last several weeks, I've focused on really making my non-party days count (strong work-outs, excellent foods and accurate logging), so that the 1-2 days per week that I'm out with friends and…

So this isn't really a quote that has been written anywhere, but these are some things that I tell myself while I'm out running: -- What a great day it is and how nice it is to be outside -- How thankful I am to live in a neighborhood with sidewalks that are safe enough to run around on -- How amazing it is that I have two…

I hear you; I love the microbrews as well. Except that they KILL my daily calorie goal. (No wonder I put on 40 pounds after turning 21...) I love IPAs but they are horrendous as far as calories, so I'm glad to have a good reason to stop drinking them after 1 or 2.

Hahaha I love this!

Bump -- everyone should read the original post!

Bump! No kids here but these are really entertaining

In restaurants that do not (yet) provide nutritional information, I really appreciate when they have a "Healthy"/"Light" section on the menu, indicated by something like, "These entrees contain fewer than 600 calories." Then I can assume that the rest of the menu exceeds that, and I can confidently order anything from that…

I noticed that too. Not in a judge-y way on anyone, but heterosexuality is usually assumed.

I had the opposite problem -- my boyfriend bought me a sweatshirt that I really loved, but he gave me an XL when I really wear a S/M.

That is sad. I live in LA (no kids though -- so no direct experience with LAUSD), and there's such huge ethnic diversity that I think it's great to offer foods besides the "traditional" hamburgers and pizza. Evidently though, it was too great a shift too quickly for kids' palates. Unfortunate :frown:

While I will not make assumptions about what caloric intake would be most appropriate for the OP (since that would be based on a great number of variables), I absolutely maintain that netting 179 calories per day, if done consistently, is not healthy. A day or two, here and there, like that will not send a body into…

On this, I do agree with you, "Missy". My statement that morbidly obese kids sicken and sadden me was a bit misguided; that parents can allow their kids' health to get to the point where major health complications are likely in store is truly what sickens me. I am saddened for the kids themselves. Thanks for clarifying.

What does age have to do with anything (aside from clarifying that the OP is an adult)? Obese elementary school kids sicken and sadden me. OP: I probably would have felt similarly. I would not be personally bothered or affected, since, as other posters have pointed out, any outward reaction in a restaurant or in public…

I second this.

Sorry, but the HRM is probably not accurate either. This article explained a lot to me: http://www.sparkpeople.com/community/ask_the_experts.asp?q=75 (Edited to add: HRM is not so accurate for weight/strength training. Still a great tool for cardio days!)

Are you saying that you logged 1200 calories of exercise for the day?? Yes, your net should be close to your daily goal each day. 179 calories is far too low for your body to operate on for 24 hours.

That's fine. It wasn't for you. End of story. I don't care for boxing either, but I don't see any point in spending my time and energy reciting quotes and internet sites to people who like boxing. For something that you don't care for, you sure have put a lot of energy into thinking and posting about it. Side note --…

First, I agree with many other posters here who opine that this probably isn't a wise idea in most North American households on Christmas. However, it also made me think -- how often do we hear someone comment on someone who is too skinny? Whether it's directed at someone who has always been skinny/small-boned/whatever, or…

Bumping this -- I have recently added a regular weight-training regimen and I am curious about your question as well.

You will need systems such as digestion, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal. Log your foods for a while to gain a sense of how many calories are in different items, and try exercising a bit to see how many calories you burn off during various activities. From there, you get to start making choices about what to eat or not…
