NSV -- I get buzzed quicker!
So I guess this is a NSV in a way -- I've realized lately that I still drink alcohol like a 180-pound person, even though I'm down from 181 to 146 now. I was so used to consuming several (4-5) beers and/or glasses of wine before feeling drunk/buzzed. But several holiday parties this season have evidenced that I do not need…

Success -- swimsuit edition! Summers 2010 & 2011
Posting my first-ever success story, complete with photos. First photo is last summer, around 180 lbs at 5'7" tall. Second photo is this summer, around 160 lbs. So far I'm halfway to my goal (final goal 140 lbs.), but I'm happy with the progress! Hopefully by summer 2012 I will be at my ultimate goal! Thanks to all for the…

Entertaining non-MFP-lifestyle relatives??
Next weekend, I am hosting my dad's side of the family at our home. About 20 people. A few are weight/health-conscious, many are not. Several are quite obese. Food is part of every culture, and our family does BIG meals. At holiday dinners and such, I can pick and choose well enough to eat what I want and need. But now I'm…

NSV -- not giving into emotional eating!
So, earlier today, I had the most rewarding, feel-good, success thus far. Besides counting calories and carbs and all that jazz, lately I have been trying to really feel in my body when I am hungry and when I am not. If you haven't yet read "Women Food and God" by Geneen Roth, I highly recommend it! (Refer to the quote in…

"Why are thin people not fat?" - videos
Just wanted to share a video (7 video parts in total) that a friend showed me, called "Why are thin people not fat?" It takes a different perspective on studying obesity, by examining people who are naturally thin and tend not to gain weight/inches regardless of their diets. The video poses several different theories…

NSV -- my favorite dress!
Just wanted to share a little NSV that totally made my day! Several years ago, I had bought this fabulous dress from Banana Republic for a cousin's wedding. It's strapless, silky, with big orange hibiscus-like flowers on it; it's a size 8 and it had fit me perfectly at the time (so I never got rid of it). Three years ago,…

what's your favorite bread?
It's grocery-shopping day for me and I need bread. Specifically, I need bread for breakfast toast and lunch sandwiches. What breads do you use that don't throw your calories sky-high? Preferably, options that are available in regular grocery stores (Safeway, etc.), as I rarely get to Whole Foods / Trader Joe's. Thanks in…

I found 2 beers!
So this morning before work, I entered my breakfast, brown-bag lunch, and a potential dinner option into my food diary for the day. By the time I got home (and had stuck to the plan), I was kind of bummed because I didn't have any calories left for a snack or dessert. But Morning-Me had thought ahead and entered two craft…

going over on fiber?
Quick question: Does anyone know if there's anything wrong with going over on fiber? I'm not talking about doubling my MFP-recommended intake, but going over by 20-30% sometimes. I've been playing around with tracking the different macronutrients and vitamins, and just realized this fiber business. What do you think?

Nail-biters Anonymous
I've been a nail-biter ever since my mom and dentist forced me (with metal mouthware) to stop sucking my thumb as a kid. I've been able to kick the habit for a month or two at a time, sometimes more, but never for good. And I feel like since I've started limiting my food intake, my habit's only gotten worse! I feel like I…

inspirational quote re: energy
"Energy is the essence of life. Every day you decide how you're going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus." - Oprah Saw this today and loved it -- thought maybe someone else would too :flowerforyou:

my first "have you lost weight?" !!
Just wanted to share a small victory: Yesterday at work, TWO different co-workers asked me if I work out or if I'd lost weight -- "You look great!" That's the first time anyone besides my roommate and boyfriend (who know I'm trying to slim down) have said anything, and I was *ecstatic*!

Ads on MFP
So, this doesn't directly relate to motivation/support in the MFP community, but... as I was reading another person's post on the site, both the right side-bar and the top panel advertisements were for Domino's pizza! Advertising the 2 medium pizzas for $5.99 each or whatever it is, and they featured prominent photos of…
