I stopped tracking for 3 weeks earlier this summer (I was gone on a road trip and I don't use a smart-phone), and relied on my body to tell me when I'm hungry and when I'm full. I found that by really paying attention, asking myself if I was truly hungry (or just bored?), and stopping eating when I felt full, I was able to…

This thread is my favorite so far, but this post is the best within it! I hope that poor spelling doesn't create Americanisms!

 That's been my general argument for a while: straight people haven't done much for the sanctity of marriage lately (between stories like this and upwards of a 50% divorce rate).

I have a Taylor brand digital scale (it's clear/see-through, from Bed Bath & Beyond) and it's not bad, it measures to the 0.2-pound and seems to be reasonably consistent. From everything I've heard and read though, bathroom scales have a limited degree of accuracy and reliability. The scales in doctors' offices and some…

I lay on the floor while watching TV and do arm exercises with 5-lb weights, and throw in some ab work as well. Also, I do squats in the kitchen while waiting for the microwave.

You *always* have a choice. It's your body :flowerforyou: That being said, every choice has its respective consequences, so just be sure to make informed decisions.

I generally either have Greek yogurt/fruit/walnuts, or some combination of eggs/ham/spinach/English muffin. Protein is important in the morning to keep the "full" feeling for a while, so look for protein-rich options :)

1420 here, and I generally eat back 50-100% of exercise calories (based on how accurate I believe them to be)
-
Sounds great! But I'd check your math -- I think you're logging extra calories
-
Looks delish and healthy  Once I get back on a school-routine in August, I hope to be as organized as this!
-
Yep, just keep eating that protein :) Personally, I'm more of a long hair person in the summer, so that I don't have to blow dry everyday. (My hair air-dries better when it's longer, and I can toss it up in a mess on the back of my head easier.) Then I usually cut off a lot around November when it gets chilly, so that it…

I had the same reaction  (Unfortunate typo or Freudian slip?)

BUMP because I would like to know too -- I just registered for my first half. Good luck to you!

Unfortunately the last 10-15 pounds are typically the hardest and slowest to lose, and they likely won't disappear in two weeks. But keeping an eye on the good old "diet and exercise" is the surest route. :flowerforyou:
-
agreed.

Mine are generally fitness/training-oriented or engagement rings :blushing:

Bump because I am curious too!

OH. MY. GOSH. I just looked up the documentaryheaven site, and I'm afraid that I will never do anything productive ever again! So much to watch and so much to learn! Thanks for that tip
-
Glad to hear other people were as fascinated as I was :) (BTW, I take all of it with a grain of salt. The chicken virus thing -- not sure I buy into it.) But none the less, food for thought, no pun intended. :flowerforyou:

Great idea! I'm in as well. I'm entering my second year in an intense 2-year double-Masters program -- social work and gerontology. I lost about 20 pounds throughout my first year in the program, so if I can repeat that this year, I will be on top of the world when I graduate!
-
THIS! I'm interning as a social worker (Masters student), and goal-setting is a huge piece of working with certain clients. The S.M.A.R.T. guidelines for goals are dead-on and what we frequently use at work. Personally, I am a procrastinator and I work better under pressure with deadlines -- in all arenas of my…

In 2007, I did my senior (undergrad) psychology project on exactly this. We printed McDonald's menus out, half of which included the calories and fat grams of each item. We asked several hundred students around school to look at a menu (only one of the two) and order a hypothetical lunch that they would realistically order…

The diet coke is zero calories, but any alcohol is not. A lot of alcohols come in around 50-70 calories per shot.

Hi all! I haven't read through the entire thread, but it seems to be right up my ally. I've been good most of the last week, except for last night -- went out and had a LOT to drink. (Somewhere around 8 drinks, don't quite remember everything though :embarassed: ) Would love to keep up with you all and this thread! Good…

Who are you "cheating"? Claim accountability for what you eat; everything has consequences. Different choices in diet (in the sense of what you're eating, not as in a "diet" diet) will have different consequences. Choose wisely and choose informedly.

The default MFP protein goal is quite low to begin with (15% of calories), so I wouldn't worry. I've manually set my goals (instead of the recommended automatic set) to include a higher protein goal so that I'm not always in the red!
-
Bump! I just read the same article earlier today! I felt like I knew/had heard about all of these, but reading that these factors are actually important was a great reminder and re-enforcer.

It's to recalculate your daily calorie goals, not your ultimate goal weight. As others have said, we require fewer calories (to maintain or to lose) when we weigh less than we did.

LOVE this. It has always seemed ridiculous to me that places did not list calories before. I would refuse to go into a store and buy something without knowing the price -- and be expected to wait until my credit card bill shows up next month to know the damage. So why on earth shouldn't people know what they're putting…
