I have lived all over the state but I've remained in the Des Moines area since 2001.

Green tea! The first step I took in becoming healthier was replacing my 3 liter per day Diet Pepsi habit with green tea. I brew my own at home which is a huge cost savings over soda. I sweeten my tea with Truvia which is more better than other sweetening options. There are a wide variety of flavored teas on the market now.…

When you find a form of exercise that you love, you will make time to get it done. I have become a runner and I will run at any time of day or night. I run when I hurt. I run when I'm sick. I just run. I do it because I enjoy it and I like the results that I am seeing. I also know that if I run, I get to eat more. My diet…

I think December is going to be another 75 mile month. Thanks so much for all your work in organizing this group.

I've been here for nearly eight months. Feel free to send me a friend request.

Are you kidding? I track my mileage by the hundredth. Every little bit helps.

Awesome NSV. Just a suggestion about shoes. Check out Altra Zero Drop shoes. At your size, you may still need some cushioning. Altras give you a flat, barefoot like platform with some cushioning. I bought my first pair a couple of months ago and I'm convinced I'll never buy a different brand.

Run Robyn, run. Do a mile for me. My personal goal next year will be 1500 miles. Closing in on 500 for this year but I didn't really start until July.
-
I don't have any rituals yet as I am running my first race in 30 years tomorrow as well. However, I have already set aside the clothes that I will be running in. I just hate the idea of being late to the starting line because I couldn't find my favorite pair of DryMax socks.
-
Picked up running in July as a means to burn calories outside the gym. I'll be running my first races on Thanksgiving and New Year's Day (5 miler and 5K) but I'm already dreaming of tackling much longer distances in 2013. I'm always looking for more running pals. Send me a friend request and I'll accept.

I've never been a tattoo type of person even though my wife, daughters, and son-in-laws all have them. I am now considering getting a tattoo to commemorate my first half marathon and marathon. I still haven't actually ran a race since HS CC in 1982 so this is a relatively long range goal. I recently saw a profile picture…

I encourage everyone I know to use MFP if they have a need to lose weight. My wife has been plateaued for about three months but she still refuses to join MFP. I think some people just don't want to do the work of logging everything they eat.

When I joined MFP I weighed over 260. I was a runner in HS so I knew that I could do it if my knees would allow. I was walking for exercise some, so I simply tried a little jog. My knees said, "NO!" From that point onward, I just tried that same test every 5 pounds I lost. Eventually, somewhere under 220 lbs. I was good to…

I've been using endomondo for several months now and the only times I've GPS connection issues were when I was running in thick trees or in thunder storms. The good part about it was that I was able to go in and edit the mileage and map after I finished.

I will be running my first race in 30 years on Thanksgiving. My plan is to just shut out all sound and find my happy place. It works for me in my regular training so I expect the same thing in my race. Unless I recognized my wife's voice I would just assume they were cheering someone else anyway.

I have to run outside! On a treadmill I feel wobbly and I can't control my pace. Outside I am in complete control. I am blessed to live in a city that has some fabulous bike trails which are great for running. I also live quite close to a city park with a lighted, two mile track around a lake. It is very safe to run there…
