Yeah again- it varies from hr monitor to the next. Wouldn't be surprised to see that people Log things like 'taking a shower' or 'taking a turd' in the hope that they can eat a further 4000 calories that MFP would give them for these activities

Crucifixion sounds painful! Glad you survived it though. I agree with you. MFP misleads by saying ' you earned 200 calories' then you go and eat 200 when in fact you only burned 50 walking to shop that took 10 mins. There obviously needs to be common sense but the HR monitors are pretty good, There is also a calculation on…

Agree with this. Its not the eating back the calories that poses the problem, Its the fact that people (and MFP for me at least) incorrectly calculate the calories they actually burn during exercise and therefore over eat. This coupled with the fact doing a lot of cardio does make you hungry (again it does for me at least)…

Might give this a go tonight after my workout
-
Agree. What a load crap, 10lbs of muscle in 2 weeks is impossible even taking drugs

Holy *kitten*. That's expensive

Agree totally and found this the funniest post I've seen in ages!

Just to clarify I DONT think cardio will make you fat in any way at all. Quite the opposite. I just dont think doing lots of itis the best way to remain lean whilst maintanining muscle mass. At least if you're natural without gifted genetics.

They were 8 years ago now and I'd never get as fast as I was again though! lol

There are scientific studies to support both for and against running, and also I'd rather run than be a slob but for me progressive controlled safe lifting with a spot on diet works perfectly. There is also the argument of injuries. When I was running at a reasonable level (34:00 10k and 1:20 Half marathon) I was forever…

People always confuse 'health' and 'fitness'. Fitness is the ability to efficiently perform a particular activity. Health is the absence of disease. One can be healthy without fitness and vice versa. In my opinion performing stupid amounts of cardio is counter productive to producing an aesthetically pleasing physique (the…

James Duigan's clean and lean diet is awesome. Low carbs moderate fats and high protein and he has some pretty amazing recipes on his website www.bodyism.com

Totally agree

I recon your eating enough calories but taking too many shakes. try and eat food instead and replace semi skimmed milk with full fat. If you're not gaining then it might be down to training- Keep it simple. Compounds with the big lifts and get plenty of rest

Get yourself to Myprotein for your powder and save your money by not buying the rest

Eat in calorie surplus of 500kcals above maintenance. calories should come from Nuts, vegetables, fish, meat, oils, peanut butter, oats, wholemeal bread and fruit. Lift some weights and watch the scales. If the number is going up 1lbs a week then bingo. If not add another 200kcals and repeat. Monitor and adjust as you go

Calipers will be the most accurate

This.

Somebody staying at the same weight though can increase their VO2. I still don't really buy into it. Your body will use glycogen stores firstly if you're doing intervals, steady state, gardening, walking or whatever. Only once you've expended the stores in the liver is the body going to start breaking down cells like fat…

I agree totally that Interval training can't be done daily because of the nature of the training, I also agree that at the level of the OP its not too important either but I just wanted to highlight the options available. However, Vo2 is not only about weight it is the milliliters of oxygen used in one minute per kilogram…
-
Fair point but I'd much rather look like an athlete that conducts interval type training then steady state. I'm thinking marathon runner vs 100 metre sprinter as extreme examples. Liftng heavy should always be kept on its own days but doing 1 or 2 HIIT sessions on off days for no more than 20 mins for a body builder is…
-
Yeah give it a go and see how you get on. If performed correctly HIIT will not leave you the time to be bored as you'll be too busy recovering in the rest periods. Remember intensity is key make sure the work bit of the intervals is a balls out effort.
