  • As all of you know, losing weight is just as much or more of a mental game as it is a physical one. I spent 30 years thinking about losing weight as punitive and restrictive. I can't eat this, that food is bad and I'm SO hungry.... No more! With my daily $16.10 I CAN afford that $5.00 (500 calorie) Mocha Frappuccino…
  • Free and responsible. YES! Two very good feelings. For WAY too many years of feeling shame, guilt, frustration, limits and embarrassment....I am ALL about feeling good along the way.
  • To continue the analogy, yes, we're all on a fixed income. We only get so much to spend each day and when it's gone, that's it. We ALL know what happens when we extend ourselves unearned credit in this area, right? Thank goodness that isn't the end of the story. The best part is with a little, or a lot, of physical work we…
  • I just looked it up. At $0.90 per tablespoon, you could eat exactly 17.78 tablespoons for $16.00. Oh, were you talking REAL money? : )
  • It appears that frugality is paying off! Nice work.
  • I know you were joking about your 15 calories, but I'll use your comment to share another point. So many of us (me especially) can be a bit of a perfectionist with all this. In my life I've been "all or nothing", "black or white", "on or off the wagon"...and when I'm off the wagon, well...this piece of cheesecake is "just…
  • And you look awesome. Congratulations on your weight loss and health gain achievement. That took some consistent and laser focus. Glad you found your way.
  • It is all about how you think and then feel about something. Framing things in a way that makes sense and feels good is more than half the battle. The fact you're a budget nut, it makes sense that MFP is a good fit for you (and me too) managing the debits and credits of calories and exercise. Excellent to hear things are…
  • Congratulations on starting!!! Attitude is so important! Sounds like you have an excellent one. Keep it up and thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with everyone. I really like how you see exercise as "earning more money to spend on something nice". That's perfect!
  • I'm so glad things have improved for you in the past year. Keep on taking care of yourself and counting your blessings along the way. All my best to you.
  • Mr. 1800 posts....“If you propose to speak, always ask yourself, is it true, is it necessary, is it kind?” What you said ~may~ be true and you weren't unkind but your comment was unnecessary. Remember, this is a place to encourage, build each other up and to share helpful or new ways of looking at things. If somebody says…
  • Well done. A great story and hugely motivating indeed!
  • In my opinion P90 and P90X should not be used by self proclaimed CREAM PUFF's. It's a great program, and yes you can modify the moves, but in my opinion should be used by people with at least a moderate fitness level and experience. The risk of injury is just too great.
  • That's right, much better. Baby steps is a great mantra. Any time we attempt a quantum leap from where we ARE to where we want to be, if there is a significant difference, the chances of failure are almost certain. We can "white knuckle" it for a while (holding on for dear life), but in the end we will find the leap was…

  • No vanilla? Perhaps add a pinch of nutmeg along with the cinnamon Amanda3588 suggested, to add further depth of flavour.
  • I don't mean to offend anybody who is in the "process of becoming" like I am, but I noticed that the majority of people on this thread who said "FOE" are in killer shape. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and perhaps that translates to fitness too! Best of health, Tyler
  • Just one more thing, Dana, that I wish I had mentioned in my last post. WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER.... This really can't be stressed enough. Increase your water intake dramatically. Sip on water all day long if you can. It helps in so many ways. All your body functions will improve and you NEED it to flush your body…
  • Good for you. Keep in mind ALL physical activity counts towards your overall better health and well being. Walking for 7 hours a day at work shows you have endurance. Give yourself credit, but it sounds like you're going to have to kick it up a notch. If you aren't sure what you'd like to do or where to start,…
  • Hey Dana. Good question. When you signed up and set your preferences MFP would have asked how active you are in your daily life and then used that answer to determine your daily calories. If you chose moderate or active, rather than sedentary, then you likely shouldn't include walking at work as exercise. Personally,…
