It's surprising to me that I have so much more upper body muscle than I thought. Of course, that's where I carry all my fat, too!

For running, I use a podcast called Groovelectric. It's funk.

I was bike riding with my friend ibbird00 and mentioned that I was eating better and going to lose weight. She told me about this cool app she is using . . . turned out to be MFP. I'm so glad that she told me about it. I've been here 30 days and have lost 9.5 lbs.

Regarding apps for biking, there are a couple I like. I use Bike Brain to share my rides for the Clif Bar 2-mile challenge and MapMyFitness for my training rides. I also have a somewhat expensive bike computer for my road bike, a Garmin Edge 800, but there are much cheaper models that don't have as many bells and whistles…

Yes, yes, 1000x yes! Go for it! You won't regret it. You might also want to check out Selene Yeager's book, "Ride Your Way Lean," which is very encouraging on riding a bike to lose weight and get fit. I'm reading it right now. You can ride to work or to school and help not just yourself but the environment. You can ride…

I showed MFP to my doctor when I saw him week before last. He said he is aware of MFP and thinks it's a good idea.

I agrree that you don't have to eat it if you hate it. That's how I feel about yogurt. I've tried all different kinds with the same result: I hate it! If you really want to get the nutrition of oats, though, and are game to try one more time, you could try Oat Bran. It has less carbs and more fiber than oatmeal and I think…

The best advice I was ever given for running a 5K was this: Find a comfortable pace in the first mile. In the second mile, pick up the pace. In the last mile, run like a bat out of hell. Some other great advice someone gave me was this, silly as it sounds: Color or paste a smiley face on the back of your hand and look at…

I was reading something last night that said all it takes to gain 50 pounds over 5 years is to eat the equivalent of one 100-calorie cookie extra a day. It's a myth that everyone overweight is lazy and don't care, just like it's a myth to say that all cyclists don't stop at stop signs. When I see someone extremely obese in…

I dont't know whether it makes a difference losing weight-wise or not to ride indoors or outdoors, but indoors is so incredibly BORING. jsf70's reply about using your core muscles for balance does sound logical. If you can, check out the Clif Bar 2-mile Challenge, which starts up again at the beginning of May. You can…

You could actually weigh and measure your food. It would be a pain in the butt at first, but after awhile you will get a visual idea of how much 1 cup, 1/2 cup, etc., of something is. Some things you shouldn't really worry about portion size, like salad. Eat lots and lots of veggies. That will help fill you up. If you have…
