I get up about 5-5.30 because that's when my son wakes up. It's waaaaaay too early!

What I find interesting is that the cup amount (the 80g) is probably a more reasonable portion of pasta than 56g. UK packages of pasta mostly list 75g as a portion. So I think that packaging is really giving you a correct and reasonable serving size of one cup but then (in my view deliberately) understating the calories.

Hello! Not sure if I count as the baby is 18 months :o I lost a lot of weight breastfeeding and was smaller than when I conceived when baby was about 12 months then in the last 6 months I just went crazy so now trying to lose some.

What a great idea! I am in :)

This was absolutely true for me a while ago. I think I couldn't face how much I was eating to stay at the weight I was so I would think "well I eat about 2000 calories now and I'm 100lb too fat so surely half that is right". I have no idea what i was actually eating calorie wise, I shudder to think.

Came out at about 850. I'll stick in 1000 and not worry too much.

Ah perfect - thank you!

This is interesting. I think part of the problem is that because medical professionals are subject to all the constant chat about obesity timebombs and other nonsense it does affect the advice you get. It's actually more dangerous for your baby to gain too little than too much weight but that's not the impression you get…

Honestly that doesn't look that bad to me - is there any veg in the lunch? Could you swap the roll out for a couple of eggs at breakfast time? Or just add the eggs actually. For weightloss it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you are in a calorie deficit.

I had a nice healthy dinner planned (and pre logged) then my husband said let's just get a pizza and in a moment of sunday night depressive weakness I agreed. I know the healthier response would be to say I enjoyed it and no regrets but actually I am really cross with myself. Oh well onwards and hopefully downwards. I did…

Burning more than you consume will lead to weight loss. Where the variables come in is how efficiently your body uses calories, also certain food are more available for use than others so the rate of absorption might be different.

I sort of have this. He's actually lovely but a bit enabling. So he'll buy ice cream and be a bit sad if I don't share it. He is skinny as a rake and has never had to worry about his weight so he doesn't really understand. Oh, yeah and he also likes the way I look now.

I just had a flick through my diary - very variable. Usually 200-300 on work days and then 500 once a week or so when I make pancakes. Then 400 ish for lunch and about 700 between dinner and snacks. I try to be under for the week rather than the day though so sometimes I change it around a lot.

It matters because if it really is unrealistic for me to lose and keep the weight off it is probably healthier to just maintain at current weight rather than put my body through the stress of repeated gains and losses. I am going to keep trying though, I am vain enough to shoot for a small chance of normal looking. Argh, I…

It's a very interesting study. There was another similar one where people were given an extra 1000 calories a day of alcohol and there was very little weight gain.

I think the analogy with alcoholism is a good one actually. Alcoholics are expected to remain fiercely vigilant all their lives, maybe that's the way I need to look at it. Thank you for the congratulations, I am pleased with my loss. I am just a little tired I think. I had a bad weekend (for all sorts of reasons) and ended…

You are all correct and I sort of know this intellectually. I think maybe it's just that emotionally I am struggling with being on a diet (as in counting calories) for the rest of my life. I need to man up really.

The question doesn't make sense.

Yes, the net thing is very overused here. You don't wipe out vitamins by going for a walk. It's also based on I assume the idea that BMR does not "deduct" calories. I have never understood that. If I eat nothing and do no exercise my net calories should be -[BMR] shouldn't they? Not zero.

Congratulations! I am trying to get pregnant at the moment, hopefully the weight loss I have achieved so far will help. Lots of good advice on here, I would say listen to your body and don't worry if you do lose a bit of weight. You have plenty of reserves and the baby will take what it needs.

I totally get this! I wonder if it is partly a result of me being short - I am 5'2" so I never feel that big. At my biggest I was 215 so basically a sphere. I didn't feel attractive or thin at all I just felt completely disassociated from my body. Like it wasn't me?

This is hardly a controversial thing to do to be fair to OP. This is exactly what anyone trying to get in under a weight class does - jockeys, wrestlers etc.
-
I didn't know they were different things - what is the difference? (I'm just nosy)

Eat half of everything? Up your exercise?

Didn't know about the fat burning thing. I read a really interesting article about the way in which alcohol calories are metabolised. Ever noticed that heavy drinkers tend to be skinny? I assumed it was because they were eating so little that their total calorie intake was low. Actually it seems that, at least in chronic…

I count it but do feel quite silly when the feed says I lost .1 of a lb or something. Maybe I should start rounding down to the nearest whole lb.

I have a fitbit zip and prefer it to more expensive fitbits. It's easily hidden, I just wear it in my bra. It's been life changing for me. I have had lazy sundays where I literally take about 1200 steps. On those days it deducts around 200 calories from what I can eat. Very instructive!

Around 2000 - that would be maintenance for me at sedentary and 215 lbs (my highest weight). So not disgusting amounts of food and actually I've always eaten quite well in that I cook things from scratch and I love vegetables. It was actually really helpful to work this out, I always used to feel like being so fat was very…

I completely agree on the dictionary definition but not how MFP works it out. I have to hit 7000 steps or so to avoid a negative calorie adjustment when set to lightly active. On days when I am at home (even when babysitting so running about after kids) I end up at around 2000 steps. It doesn't matter really though, just…
