Also - buy Robb Wolf's book The Paleo Solution. It's filled with good science and plenty of detail to go along with it. I like Mark Sisson's book, but find it a bit light on the science and heavy on the speculation for my tastes.

I can't ever allow myself to have a bite of something I tend to binge on. I think many people who recommend the "moderation" approach, never seriously struggled with binging hardcore. For me, one bite of a cookie leads to about 30 more cookies, then a pie, then a cake and pizza and more. It's far far far easier and safer…

Yo guys! I'm home finally from that leg of tour. What a trip. Jay - I'm sure I swore enough for your entire 21 day challenge over the past couple days of tour. I have some major catching up to do - Didn't miss a workout, but ate pretty crappy on my weekend carb up - glycogen load. Last week my weekly fast was Tuesday, then…

OK, time to face up for last night. I got wasted (on like 5 beers.... seriously - I'm such a lightweight it's pathetic.) and partied. I warned the kids on tour that the old Steve was coming out to play and they all better get ready. Man, it was fun. My nutrition has been: Mon: (rest day) Breakfast: Meaty Omelet Dinner:…

This makes me so happy :) This is how I felt when I started - I really love it so much, it makes me smile knowing you're doing it too! As for logging, I just made up one class name and use it for everything. Estimate the calories, just so I have logs here. I'm actually thinking about switching my workout logs to…

Yeah! That's exactly what I do. On tricky days, I plan way ahead to make sure I get what I want out of my daily life!!! Nice!

I was thinking about you today, after my squats, I saw a kettlebell in the gym and thought about adding some swings, but I wanted to stick with the program, so didn't. that's an amazing workout... KB, intervals, 10k, 1 leg squats, abs, pressups, pull-ups.... geez Gail....... Don't beat anyone up.

Get some meds man! That stuff can knock me on my *kitten*, I'm really wussy when it comes to being sick. The last sentence made me laugh for real.

Hey guys - geez a lot of us rocking our goals. The first couple days are easy, but then it gets more challenging. If you fall off, most will, just jump back on. Come on! Day 2. Exercise: 2-3 mile run outside, added 4-5 HIIT sprints for fun Food: none. kind of a long story, but did a fast all day by accident. won't eat now…

Hey guys - typing from my phone in this crappy hotel in geneva NY, excuse typos or being kind of short, I can't get wifi and the little keys are driving me nuts already. I love the goals I read above, mine is on track through one day, although I drank a butt load of black coffee today. 2 meals today Noon and 6, with a…

real quick: this is the very old thread - here's the June 2011 thread! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/262760-independence-day-from-the-old-you

OK, mine is pretty simple - I have slowly allowed diet soda to creep back into my life. It's gone starting tomorrow. My exercise routine is on point, I never miss a workout. Nutritionally, I'm good (except for the diet pop) and have a simple goal. I will, for the next 21 days, drink 2 litters of water before I drink…

God bless you for being so awesome that you don't have any sort of eating disorder. I'm so childish that I've been in therapy for 3 years for mine. Sadly my mummy isn't around, so I struggle with eating on a daily basis, as do many people who are here. I'm going to copy and paste your response on drug and alcohol abuse…

Yes - you're right on that. So many people don't know that tomatoes are fruits. Look, the line here isn't cut in stone. Use judgement. As long as you're not mistaking carrot cake for a veggie, you're going to be fine. I tried the S.A.D. for a couple years and just couldn't stop binging once the sugar hit. It was a long,…

I actually completely agree with you here. I advise my clients while in weight loss mode to cut it for now, then feel free to add it in again later. The problem is more about binging and habits than the rather moderate amount of fructose in fruit. Once the sugar hits, it is really easy to allow the hormones to take control…

well... yeah! :) And thus the title of the post.

There are ways around it - there's a pretty good veggie replacement shake called shakeology, but it has some stevia and really - I would much rather people just find ways to cook veggies that are good. Honestly, I don't love love love them. I just eat them because it's fuel and I know it's important. I think I look at it…

Which carbs? Glucose or Fructose?
-
I've read a rather insane amount of research on glucose/fructose and just didn't want to sit here and type for the next 8 hours :) There's a great - however, long video on fructose that is scientifically sound here: Again - listen. Some fruit when not in a big weight loss mode isn't a terrible thing! In fact, I eat some…

Not never. If it's not sustainable for you, then I believe you'll be exactly right back where you were before. Under-Eating/Over-Exercising, Yo-Yoing through life until you find what does work. Why not try. "Try or do not try - I don't really care" - what Yoda really meant.

I'm a musician who tours a lot. Believe me, I spend countless nights at restaurants/fast food/diners/bars and have to eat there, because that's just where the band stopped. You often have no control over where you eat, but always have control over what you eat! Here's some tips I've learned over the years. You never have…

haha - I just hit your other thread - but in case someone else wanders on this - my favorite fiber source is baby spinach. I eat it a few times a day usually with plenty of meat on top. It's a nice protein/carb ratio as well, and has more than 50% fiber, pretty darn low net carbs.
-
nuts are tough - for two reasons. One, they contain a lot of carbs. Most of us think of nuts as fat/fiber machines, but really, there are still a lot of carbs in them as well. Leafy greans are the answer. I eat baby spinach with almost every meal. (almost every meal is a ton of meat on top of a ton of spinach. Meat-Salad.)…

I would cut down the apples! Eating anything that has sugar in it will raise your insulin secretion, and thus your insulin resistance, and thus your fat storage of glucose. Fruit does have plenty of good stuff in it - but that doesn't mean it's all good! Eat lots of veggies and animals, fruit in much more moderation as a…

ps. When I first cut out the bulk of my carbs, I was extremely tired for a few days until I finally reached ketosis. I took a bunch of naps that week!
-
I had to cut myself off cold turkey - the problem with sugar is, once those hormones kick in and start raging just from a bite of bread/pie/cake/pasta/doughnuts - whatever, it's very difficult for many of us to only have that one bite and stop. It's not willpower - it's a biochemical reaction that is brought on by…

Most of my meals are between 1,000 and 2,000 calories. Often I need 2 plates to hold it. :(

Gluten and dairy is inflammatory to many people, not just those who are completely intolerant. Your trainer sounds right on the money. I would even take it a bit further with the carbs. It is absolutely true that starvation mode is generally a bad myth, although there is something to be said for overeating after a long…

All meat/fish/poultry/eggs. There's a quick 8 million ideas for ya :)

I do the same, 1 scoop of whey, 2 whole eggs and a skillet. Pretty easy and simulates pancakes well.
